Voted ME 1. Warts and all, it just presents a better story than the others. Currently replaying it and heading to Virmire (one of my favorite parts of the game.)

ME1 was the best because I like all the exploration, grind it out leveling and the charecters felt like they were part of the same universe as my Shepard

ME2, but specifically the suicide mission at the end. Probably one of the best levels in any video game, ever. Every time I replay it I can't help but grin.

Wow. ME2 is winning by a nose against ME1, and is winning by a land slide against ME3. Heh, how mildly ironic.

ME1 opened up an incredible and unique world to me as far as gaming goes, and got me immensely interested in what was to follow.
ME2 delivered on that, and felt grittier to me, and all around became my favorite.
ME3...well, I'll let you know when I pick up the controller again.

Well ME1 and ME2 are more or less statistically equivalent, and ME3 trails by a significant margin 0.5

THIS!!!
But to really pick a favorite of all 3 is very difficult, all of them were excellent!

I'd have to say getting to know the characters and seeing them evolve over three games was my favorite part of the series. Finally helping the Krogan and the Quarians felt good. RIP Mordin

Mass Effect 1 was my favorite, hands down. I loved everything about it. I have played through it more than 10 times and I still look forward to playing it at a later date. It is easily among my all time favorite games.

*spoilers* If he died, you played it wrong, you would "save" the Krograns at the expense of your friends and the future of the galaxy?

In ME1, when you shoot the elevator window to go find Saren. When you drop down and see Sovereign's leg going up and down and hear the iconic "Reaper Growl", still gives me chills to this day.
Tied closely is just Jack in general
. She still owes me that pirate ship.

If not for Priority: Earth, it would be Mass Effect 3. I'll have to say Mass Effect 2 for me.

Mass Effect 2. Decent Gameplay. A good final mission. Didn't have too much autodialogues.
To this I'd add: memorable characters (the new people in ME3 weren't nearly as interesting, and the returning ones were often underused). A good compromise between the "much exploration but boring" approach of ME1 and the "no exploration at all" ME3 way. At least you could re-visit other planets than the Citadel. Combat was better in ME3 and RPG elements in ME1, but I'd still vote for ME2. It's certainly the one I had most fun with, in spite of its paper-thin plot.

ME1 Best Soundtrack, Best RPG/ACTION Balance (I HATE Ammo-Shells in this Universe!!!), Best Story, Best overall-Feeling!
If you remove the heavey overloaded Inventory (with always the same weapons) , make the Mako-Missions a bit more diversified and their levels too and add the paragon/renegade actions and the personal storys of ME2, this game would be the best game ever!!!!
ME2 is the second for me. Very good but not as good as ME1.
