I'm on my 2nd playthrough, and I'm starting to feel like ME3 is actually really short. While it has more "main" missions than ME2, ME2 had potentially more than 10 detailed and somewhat lengthy side missions (loyalty missions), and a respectable amount of side missions, some of which were chained (like the infected mechs plotline). And it had more than one "hub" world (Citadel, Omega and Ilium). ME1 only had 1 hub (Citadel), but other places like Feros and Noveria had several side things you could do, and of course ME1 had planetary exploration that took up a substantial amount of time and could yield lots of little things.
There seem to be fewer side missions in ME3 (only about 6 or 7 N7 missions overall I think?) and most of them felt pretty short and straightforward to me. Also the lack of any hubs except the Citadel makes it feel smaller IMO.
Although, if you count the side quests like the Asari Monastery and Rachni, it seems ME3 has a substantial amount of "important" missions...Earth/Mars in the beginning, Palaven, Sur'Kesh, Tuchanka, Geth Dreadnought, Rannoch, Asari Monastery, Rachni sightings, Thessia, Sanctuary, Cerberus HQ and the finale on Earth...it still feels short to me.
Maybe it's because all the missions in ME3 are fast-paced shootouts? Whereas previous game missions could involve more exploring/walking around? What do you guys think?
(Not counting DLC)
Did anyone else feel like ME3 was kinda short?

Two runs of Mass Effect = 30 hours for me.
Two runs of Mass Effect 2 = 42 hours for me.
One run of Mass Effect 3 = about 25 hours for me.
If anything, it got longer.

100% in 21 hour. With all dlc ME 2 takes like 33 hours so yeah, feels short and empty.

I 100% in about 35 hours or so. I'm a slow player, checking everything and reading codecs. I was hoping it would be a bit longer, yeah. Bioware seems to be in a trend of shorter games compared to their older titles.

Absolutely. Especially post Rannoch, I don't get why there were no Thessia side missions. There's also fewer of the smaller missions, like the Patriarch, the bartender and Harriot's Emporium on Omega.

Well, may be in hours it is longer, but impression is like ME3 is shorter. It take me 19hours in my fisrt playthrough(mainly due to an ability to run as long as I want)

Took about 30 hours, the main quest alone is probably 15hr + on its own. Nothing out of place here.
ME1's story alone is 7hrs tops lol.
ME2's story was probably the same as 3 in length maybe a little longer.

My first run took me 40 hours, mostly 'cause I roamed the Citadel/Normandy after each mission to check for any new stuff. My second playthrough should be much quicker, but that was still more than enough game for mah money.

So do none of you do the side quests or anything, my first two play throughs were 45+ hours and my third play through is looking to be the same, all three times I did pretty much every citadel side quest and N7 mission and didn't rush through the story missions because I wanted to do everything, so in essence, if you do everything, Mass Effect 3 is ten hours longer then Mass Effect 2's base game without the Arrival/ShadowBroker/Overlord DLC. So I don't know how ME 3 is shorter unless you are all skipping every side mission and not paying attention to conversations between missions and doing all the citadel and N7 missions.

I'll tell you what I felt...
There was barely anything to fight in Mass Effect... It mostly just felt like getting from Point A to Point B.
It might just be that I play adept and I get instant Biotic explosions because of Liara's instant singularity.
I just always felt I needed to kill something and there was barely anything to kill throughout the game.

ME3 took me about as long as my ME2 (38 ish hours, listening to all dialogue, all side missions, no DLC). I think it has more to do with the pacing of the game, making it seem that way.

A hardcore completionist run with a full sweep of the Normandy after every mission to ensure I didn't miss any squad banther took about 35 hours.
My most recent run of ME2 (with all DLC) took me 36 hours.
ME1 is a lot longer, but that is to be expected with all the Mako action on massive empty planets.

They're about 30 hours each for me, not counting DLC. So no.

See every run of ME 2 I do these days takes me 50 hours because of all the DLC, do you people all play on casual or something? Takes me about 30 hours to be ME 1 as its the shortest of the three games.

It definately felt shorter but my saves say otherwise. I think there was more dialogue and the scanning missions took a while to find/execute if you got them all, which I was pretty meticulous about. I agree with the OP's idea that a lot of the game revolved around fast paced shoot outs, get in and get out kind of missions. I didn't mind that it felt shorter, but OP makes an interesting point.

ME1 took me much more than 38 hours to play (side quests included), ME2 took me 30 hours to complete with side quests included.
ME3...24 hours with side quests included (I think I missed 1 or 2).
Hell, it was short...

I finished my first (and only, until ending fixing DLC comes out) playthrough of ME3 in 38 hours. I wasn't able to do certain side missions because I heard that Priority missions are timed, still don't know if that's true. So Priority missions, well, took priority.

Given that planet scanning was removed along with sprinting endurance it's not surprising playthroughs are shorter. I think ME3 still has a similar number of sidequests and the main quest is about the same as the others. If you want more playtime with ME3 I'd recommend whacking the difficulty up to insanity.

Yeah, same here. Althought in ME1, spent like 3 hours doing a bunch of Citadel related quests before going to find Saren, looking for Keepers to scan, etc.

Well, if your playing on Insanity or Hardcore, you can expect it to take longer simply because of comabt. But at least in my experience on Normal/Vetern, 35-40 hours is about how long it takes me for a complete ME2/ME3 run. ME1 is actually quite short, usually taking me 20 or less.

Longer than Mass Effect 2... but a little too short for my expectations.
It would be amazing if they created a game with more RPG elements for an incrdible duration of 50 hours... like Final Fantasy XIII (It was absolutely linear until chapter 11.. but from that moment it was awesome.) but instead thay spend valuable resources on MP... wich in my opinion it's just irrelevant and it's ruinig the gaming industry.

Pretty sure they gave us a screwed up journal/quest system just so that we'll spend an extra 5 or 6 hours repeating redundant fetch quests.
Quite insulting, actually.

ME2 36 hours
ME3 35 hours
No, it's the exact same as the other two upon your first run, completing everything.
