Just starting my second playthough of ME1 (my first renegade playthough), and I'm wondering what's the minimum number of squad mates needed to complete the game?

Obviously I'm stuck with both Kaidan and Ashley, until Virmire.  But can I skip both Garrus and Wrex altogether, or do I need at least one of the two in order to turn Chora's Den hostile?  I supposed if forced, I could pick up Wrex and later take care of him on Virmire.  I assume Tali is unavoidable, but can I skip finding Liara on Therum and progress to Ilos without her?

Are there any disadvantages of playing a renegade playthough this way?  The only caveat I can think of is not being able to guide Garrus down the renegade path as well.

Only one of Garrus or Wrex is skippable. You have to take one of them; you cannot skip them both.

Liara is unavoidable. You are required to take her so she can interpret the Prothean beacon vision and identify Ilos. Tali is also unavoidable.

Garrus is a squadmate in ME2 regardless if you skip him. You just have some slightly altered dialogue.

Wrex will not appear in ME2 if you skip him in ME1. Dialogue plays out like he died on Virmire. No idea if a skipped Wrex will appear in ME3.

Also, if you have neither Garrus nor Liara by Virmire, the game won't let you kill Wrex.

Good to know, guess I'll pick up Garrus and take him down the renegade path. I'd like to leave Liara all alone and have her think I'm a hallucination for this playthough.
