Also it's nice that when the shuttle actually blows up Shepard is pretty cool about it with just a simple Cortez but when it just gets hit he freaks out. Looks like someone might have misplaced those two lines.
I wonder how Shepard reacts if Cortez was romanced. Is it any different?

If Shepard romances him or becomes his friend, Cortez starts looking towards the future again and is therefore more motivated to survive.
