And this further proves my suspicions that Bioware actually got indoctrinated when they started working on the endgame. Or they're flat out trolling us.

Also it's nice that when the shuttle actually blows up Shepard is pretty cool about it with just a simple Cortez but when it just gets hit he freaks out. Looks like someone might have misplaced those two lines.

I wonder how Shepard reacts if Cortez was romanced. Is it any different?

It does make sense. After his husband's death, Cortez lost the will to live.
If Shepard romances him or becomes his friend, Cortez starts looking towards the future again and is therefore more motivated to survive.
