what im saying is they need to classify games as above mature rated that have nudity and sex.

the current rating system on games is poor. everything above a toddlers game basically is mature rated.

it needs to be reclassified if you want to have your soft-porn games.

it needs another rating above mature, such as Explicit.

it needs to be more clear so that your ignorance excuse is actually value, and thats why you should support the idea.

There is, and that rating is called AO (adults only).  It is given to exactly that, explicit games with pornography.  Major retailers do not carry games with these ratings, so you rarely [never] see them in the mainstream.

There are games that are rated M that have implied interactive sex and bare breasts (God of War).  It is understood (or should be) that games given the rating of "M" are for an audience that is at least 17.  Much like movies that are rated R.

Most games that are rated M already have rather explicit things going on in them.  Very graphic and explicit violence and gore, explicit language, and yes even nudity and sex.

It is your responsibility as a parent to learn the ratings and the content they describe.

as far as the people claiming its ignorance, then dont you see why it should have an explicit labeling system there?

dont put a little 'mature rated' label in the corner, put a big fat sticker plastered all over the box that makes it explicitly clear that it contains nudity and sexual situations and your problems are solved.

you realize at one time there wasnt a warning on plastic buckets for children, then a child fell in one and drowned, and now every plastic bucket has a warning of a possible child drowning hazard. you could argue that the parent shouldnt have been so ignorant as to let it happen, but the warning is still there on every new bucket made today.

It is ignorance because THE LABEL IS THERE.  On the front of the box, and on the back of the box with further detail on the content of the game.

You can't compare to when things did not have a label because GAMES HAVE A LABEL, and they're just as clear as warning labels used for any other commercial media product.

Lol, DA softporn game???? There is no sex at all. Have you ever played the game? If yes, you have a real problem with sex, if you consider this what is shown here softporn.  There is more sex shown in every second tv advertisment.

Seams pretty clear, when it says Ages M +17 , not for children under the age of 17. As for the size of the lable, I am pretty sure I can see it on all 3 boxes clear as day.

If you arn't willing to read, its your fault, stop trying to justify reasons why you cannot control what your children see. You want to know whats in a game and exactly what the content is, www.ign.com is your friend.

Works for me.

Utter garbage. This thread has pages and pages of Europeans turning their nose up at American "purile sensitivities" concerning sex. A couple Americans stick up for themselves and Europe screams, "LOCK!"

Well, the mature rated label is EXACTLY for that. It means that no non-mature persons should get access to this program.

If the reason for this is some nuditiy scenes (as i am from europe, we do not take this more serious than it is, just americans have a problem with sexuality), or, and thats a much more important thing, quite brutal scenes and puddles of blood everywhere, doesnt really matter.

Parents who allow their children to use games or films or whatever stuff thats labeled for matures only have failed in their responsibilities.

It's talking about the letter "M" on the game box, is that not good enough?

Sure Mr. smartass

But actually the thread is called "Sex IN Dragonage" and there isn't any, but that's not why I ask for a lock it's because the debate has derailed into something that doesn't belong on a gaming forum.

Does it really have to be Europe against the US anyway?  Both US and Europe have such a wide range of sexual perception is it really fair to group everyone?  Its things like that that takes us away from cool and deep conversation about the ****** of the models

I am an American, Darpaek you sir are the essence of the ugly American. There is nothing wrong with sex, the fact is, that as an American you should be all for freedom of artistic expression considering its written into the constitution under freedom of speech.

The fact that you are fighting this shows that you don't even understand the basis of the founding ideals of your own country.

yeah, its just mature rated, which was my point. herp durp.

you really expect say my nieces mother who is a single mom with 2 kids, works full time, has to take care of her house, family, herself, bills, laundry, cooking, cleaning, and everything else to have the time to sit down and look up every little detail about every little thing their kids want to get?

arnt you just living in your own little world.

slapping an Explicit label on the box instead of the standard mature rating that is on pretty much every game that even has something as minor as a cuss word would be a good alternative in my opinion.

that way you people who want your soft porn games can get them, and the people like my sister who actually have very busy lives to deal with dont buy things for their kids unintentionally.

arguing that places like walmart wont sell the game then is not much of an excuse really. if you want it to be sold in walmart it shouldnt have sex scenes in it and be in the video game section in my opinion. i dont see them selling 'debbie does dallas' either.

No offence, but theres nothing really that explicit in DA:O. They keep their undies on...

Anyway, im looking at my UK copy of the game box right now...it has a big fat red circle on it with 18 in the centre, and on the back it says "contains strong, bloody violence". So its getting pretty much the same warning label on it as the Saw movies...

...which everyone seems think is fine....so this game gets the same rating in this country as a bunch of films that realisticly depict torture-porn. "Blinks"

Of the two, I know which I'd rather my kids got hold of...

Doesn't anything think its a bit weird that overly violent drivel like the Saw and Hostel films gets released and no-one really bats an eyelid, yet when Janet Jackson has a wardrobe-malfunction the thousands of people get outraged as if they'd never seen a boob before?

There are computer games available on the net that depict graphic sexual activity that anyone with half an understanding of downloads could get their hands on...why is ANYONE getting so wound up about a game like DA:O? Its utterly ridiculous, its petty, its moronic...

At the end of the day, its clearly labeled what age group its aimed at. If parent are irresponsible enough to ignore that, then its not Bioware's fault, its their own. People need to start taking a bit more responsibility for the decisions they make and quit looking for someone else to pin their mistakes on.

Oh, and I found the self-righteous tub-thumping about how wonderful America is to be highly entertaining...

I think the "going to the tent with (fill in the blank)" scenes are close enough to sex to qualify.

Well, thank you for your viewpoint, Mr. Arbiter.  The debate's settled then.  Sex in video games is dumbed down because Americans are a bunch of prudes.  Thank you for settling this dispute for us.

No it doesn't - ofc it's implied that sex occurs but that isn't sex.

Every other sitcom (and other shows) imples people sleep with each other that isn't considered sex as far as I know.

Did I say anything remotely like that anywhere, are you sure you aren't confusing me with someone else?

So true. I'm sorry if I said mean things about americans, I really do think most of you are great people and I am immensly thankful for all the wonderful games you've given us (I know Bioware are Canadian, but there are lot's of great non-Bioware games too).
I still do hate the ESRB though.

No this is not the problem. There is a rating above mature,  AO. The problem is no game developer dares make AO games since then stores like Wallmart wont sell them. The problem is americans prissy and hypocrital attitude towards sex and nudity.

I think this is what bugs me the most. Not only will some stores not sell the game but some parents will not buy the game for their kids, the same parents who will buy thier kids the most violient games out there. All the violience in the world is ok but OMG alittle pixel nudity and sexual references forget, my kid is going to be scar'd for life or go out and get pregnet. The west does have a prissy and hypocrital attitude towards sex and nudity. I wish it wasn't true but for the most part it is.
