It's not a bad thing, people are just dumb.

Now that's a stupid generalization right there.

Therefore proving his point.

I'm having trouble seeing what is so shocking about the "sex" in DA:O. There are mainstream sitcoms that are more explicitly descriptive of sexuality and some that are at least as graphic about it onscreen...and "pop" videos that are more aggressivly sexualised, and with worse messages as well. In fact, theres some shampoo commercials that show just as much flesh as this game. I don't see hordes of concerned parents clamouring for a ban on shampoo advertising...

And on the point of concerned parents, and the labeling of these games...
Theres no indication that adding a "Parental Advisory" sticker onto the existing labeling would make any differance. The existing label is very clear. In the US it states that the game is for Mature players, and defines that as an age group of 17+, and then conscisely describes what content the game has that warrants that rating. In the UK we use the same rating system, and symbology, as we do for movies, and DA:O has an 18 rating here.
Now, it seems to me that this is making it very clear that this game is NOT intented for kids. If parents want to disregard that, its their lookout.

If a parent or gaurdian is unable or unwilling to spend 10 seconds to look at the rating of a game, either because they are to busy/lazy/stupid/incapable/uncaring or whatever, it DOES NOT absolve them of responsibility if their kids then get upset or whatever by playing a game that the label clearly indicates they shouldn't be playing anyway! Frankly I think that if they can't or won't take that time to check the existing label then they probably aren't going to take the time to check another one. The existing label already tells them what they need to know. Its not the fault of the rating, the label, or the game publisher, if they don't pay heed to it.

Too many parents have a habit of using TV and video games as sort of electronic babysitters, as if this somehow abrogates them of the responsibility for whatever they're kid encounters. They plonk them in front of the box and then get all outraged when sweet little Timmy sees some boobs...well, not to be harsh but that is THEIR fault. They are the ones in the position of responsibility and they are the ones who need to monitor what their kids are doing.  Expecting the game designers to hobble a game aimed at adults, just in case kiddies see it, is ridiculous.

And the "I didn't pay attention because games are for kids" argument is also ridiculous. It wouldnt even be considered if it were a movie. No parent could reasonably expect to get away with using that excuse if they rented their little darlings "Zombie Cannibal Holocaust 2 - The Revenge" by mistake. All games are not for kids any more than movies or books are.

All the above is perfectly valid. What is surprising is how no one bothers considering this from a moral standpoint. Yes there is more sex on tv and even in ads than there is in this game. But that doesnt change the fact that sex being so openly depicted is morally wrong. Wrong is wrong is wrong. With atheists i can concede a bit. They dont even believe in God when the proof is right in front of them that he exists, but to each his own. However none of the major religions condone this type of depiction. Fact is this is just another greedy, money scheme becoming the norm in todays game market. Sex=money. So we give them sex. Don't bother looking up what your faith tells you to do. Personally i dont like the ingame sex because it goes against my religion. End of story.

Please don't bring religion into this. It has been proven that an internet forum can't have religous debate without it turning into a massive p1ss1ng contest

@ no spoilers allowed. Everything we say about game itself is a spoiler, might be just not a major plot spoiler.

Why sex in this game is "a bad thing". Scenes beyond kissing look ridiculous and dull. same positions, underwear, it's not prude it looks sick,  just music comes to the rescue but why is it always the same?

Naked women wearing bra's and pants, men just pants what the hack? Discrimination! Censorship lack of designers animation skills.

Lady of the forest is censored by long hair, succubs as far as i remember same.

Conclusion Americans are afraid of nudity more than afraid of or violence and blood. Taboo.

American rating M( 18+) for:
- Blood
- Intense violence
- Language
- Partial nudity
- Sexual content

http://www.esrb.org/...word=dragon age

European rating 18 reason Violence restriction
http://www.pegi.info...ring=dragon age

Mostly important Games are not only for Kids sometimes even contrary.

Regardless of being Computer Game, Gambling, Social Intriguing.
Big zero for poor sex scenes. Even Isabela episode is better because it triggers imagination.

And than again i think that violence is a great threat where is not at at.
As far as i've seen it europeans tend to rate mature content violence/... and americans sex/blood/language...

Plus for massive amount of blood and messy kills.
Violence without blood is disgusting and tend to be misleading for teenager (beating is only beating it can not kill someone).

I think sex in games should not be treated any differently from sex in movies. Both tell a story and its not like the player has controll over the sex, this is just a cutscene. The only difference between a movie would be that the characters are made of pixels and are not real people.

Yet somehow games are treated in a completely unfair way compared to movies when it comes to nudity. A busty woman showing cleavage seems to push a rating up to 12+ and it would be called sexual content.

And the suggestion that characters have sex would be enough for an 18+ rating, like in fable2 where the screen goes black during sex as soon as you select the bed to have sex.

Oddly enough the sims3 does not have an 18+ rating while I think it should. Not only would that allow the game to show a less childish world with alcohol and its effects and actually mean people, it would also prevent children from growing up with a crooked view of relationships.

In the sims you can have sex with anyone after all, unless they are related to the sim, regardless of a very happy marriage. This is not something I think 12 year olds should be playing, 12+ is the rating of the latest installment, sims3. And many younger children seem to play this as well.

Sex is displayed in a rather moronic way in this game though, it makes the sex in dragon age look good even.

Like in previous Bioware game, the sex in DA:O is a big failure.

This is not fun, not interesting, not beautiful, quite ugly, full of bugs (oh yeah my dwarf in full plate with leliana :s) and really hard to skip.

And the bigger probleme is there is no sex in DA:O's sex. It's pitifull

I love living in a country where its OK to send a kid who just turned 18 last week into a warzone with an m16 in his hands but not ok for mildly suggestive sex in an ADULT rated video game.

As much as I love my country I wish we could get our S#&t together and wise up.

The media is literally ruining us.

=(

Trust me, the sex in sims games is worse. And still they copied the animations from sims2 directly to sims3, like pretty much all animations.

The two sims snuggle up a bit against each other, then slide under the blankets in a rather cartoonish fasion and move around under the blankets and heart shaped pieces of paper are slowly falling down all over the blankets. Its quite sickening really, almost makes me vomit. Regardless of gender and age they giggle like little girls under the blankets as well.

Maybe EA has a certain low standard for sex scenes in games? They want it to be as crappy as the manuals they produce for the games?

So it seems the offended are those that buy games and ignore the rating. Im not sure about other countries, but for 18+ titles you are fined alot money or can go to jail if you give it to somone who's 17 or lower, and that is the parents too. They should be complaining once more then.

You're right, comparing sending a kid off to war to a video game is a totally legit analogy.
I understand that you're talking about censorship and hypocrisy, but come on.

I would imagine that anyone able to ride a bicycle would see nothing at all wrong with sex and nudity within games, in fact it has a role to play were romance is concerned.

Problems only arise when that sex and nudity becomes crude and vulgar, to much information can sometimes ruin the best of things.

Sex and nudity shown in a mature way can only be warm and fluffy. :)

Sorry, folks, but we try to discourage discussion of religion in our forums. And this discussion really isn't about Dragon Age, so I'm shutting it down.

End of line.
