Cole and the Architect are definitely coming back--in fact, tying some of the stuff in Awakenings in was the primary purpose of the Legacy storyline. Whether they'll come back in DA3, though, only time will tell.
Personally, I'm kind of hoping they (mostly) table the Darkspawn stuff for DA3 and get more into the Elves and Dwarves (and other stuff too) in order to set up for a big huge spectacular Darkspawn Reveal in game 4. But who knows what the plan is at this stage.
I think the point of Da3 is to finally end the darkspawn threat and the templar/mage war.
So they should bring closure to the darkspawn mystery.
I doubt they could end it in DA3 because as I recall there was 7 old gods and so far we have only had 5 blights so there would be two more left unless the Wardens beat the Darkspawn to the 2 remaining old gods and slay them before they become archdemons

Otherwise it's better they leave him out of DA3

I really liked his character i really did, He was one of the best things about awakening!.
I know we got a little metion of him in Da3. But i hope he has a big role in Dragon age 3!.
I'd rather them set darkspawn aside in DA3 tbh.
I want to see other things about the DA universe they haven't touched much on. If I had it my way, I wouldn't want to see the Mage vs. Templar war either. One game with that was enough, IMO. But since they didn't give it closure, they have little choice but to put it in DA3...which is unfortunate.
I'd rather see each DA game focus on something completely new.

Well, he's a bit dead in some of my games.
Simple. If he is alive at the end of Awakenings, then you'll see him again. If he's dead, then you'll see someone else playing his role of the story. A la Mass Effect storyline. (I did that in French in honor of da3)

Urthemiel, the Dragon of Beauty.
Razikale, the Dragon of Mystery.
Lusacan, the Dragon of Night.
The OGB has the soul of Beauty. So I wonder if the ladies will all swoon over him? Next on the list is Razikale, the Dragon of Mystery...which makes sense because we are trying to discover where this series is going.

Would it bother people if the Architect survived by body jumping? Some Darkspawn related characters have this ability, so why not him?

But seriously, I have a feeling the Architect is far from ... designing the future of the darkspawn
