You can add as many party members as you want through console codes, which can make some battles even harder since there are so many NPCs you have to heal/micro.

Personally, 4 is more then enough, many games only allow 3, heck, it wasn't until NWN: Hordes of the Underdark that you could even travel with 2 companions at once. Yes, more lets you have a bit more freedom in combat, but seriously, its not a need. I still remember treking through NWN with my fighter and a rogue. As for forcing you to use a set combination of classes, no game really forces you to do that, you just have to change your combat needs.

I could just as easily blow through the game with 4 fighters, 4 rogues, mages, or a mix of them, although I do admit, mages might be harder.

That's correct. It is entirely possible, using console codes, to make all nine appear on screen at once. (The only other time this happens, BTW, is when all are onscreen during the siege to enter Denerim - but at that point they all have "blue circles," only your PC is under your control.)

However, only four will have party portrait icons, forcing you to make a bit more effort to select and control the others.

Secondly, I never tried having more than 5 onscreen, I imagine having all 9 - with yellow circles/full control - would bring things to a crawl.

I would perfer at least 5 or 6 party members in your party at once. I mean the PS3 can handle MGS IV, which is a graphics beast, but not another party member in DA: O...

Everybody talks of party members but no one tells how to add them, or where the warehouse of paty members can be found. I saw it in utube but the guy never said how to get in to it.

Unnecessary thread resurrection.

End of line.
