I was thinking about this and I really think Bioware dropped the ball with going with the crucible as the only way to stop the reapers. When the protheans were fighting the reapers they probably came up with all sorts of ideas in trying to defeat the reapers. We should have been able to explore each of those ideas, maybe one was a giant gun, maybe a virus. maybe sacrificing a a mass relay like in Arrival. We should have explored every single option to fight the reapers no matter how far fetched. We should have been able to go to that planet with the rumored beings of light and explore what that was all about, would anything have come about it? Probably not but we still should have sought it out.
For a good example of what we should have been doing take the first seasons of Stargate Sg1 where SG1 and company explored planets for any tech they could find in order to defend themselves from the Go'auld, many of those techs didn't pan out but it would be great for renagade vs paragon options. \\
This is probably because I'm still reeling from that god-awful ending but I just feel that Bioware could have done so much more with ME3.
