The only reason not to change the ending debunked

The only decent argument for not changing the ending is that it sets a bad precedent for artists to have to compromise they’re work. Putting aside the fact that people have been having artist changing endings for over a hundred years (See Great Expectation, The Phantom of the Opera, The Wicker Man, ext ) games are very different, as discussed here in a game as art exhibit:

If games are art then are the players not the artist too? A game can not be merely viewed, even if you watched a lets play, said player contributes greatly to how the game unfolds.
If it is true that the creators of a game are truly The Designer, The Game and the Players then when the players find great fault in great numbers it can not be ignored. The designer has regency in her/his game, they are the starting point, but by removing the players voice from a game do you truly degrade it. Is that not setting a bad precedent?
