I'm not at all being mean spirited here, I just want to clear something up that has bothered me quite a bit during this whole debacle.
Again, I am insulting no one when I say this. Not Bioware, not fans, not anyone. These are just my opinions.
Regardless, people are going to hate me, but I feel like it needs to be said.
The Mass Effect games are not masterfully written.
Now I feel like a jerk for stabbing at Bioware and the ME series like that, and it hurts me to say it, but it's true.
In terms of literature, the Mass Effect series is more along the lines of Harry Potter than Les Miserables. Harry Potter is a great series, well written too. It is not a classic piece of art.
Now, the background stuff, the Codex and all, is awesome worldbuilding.
And the series as a whole is very well written.
But they are not, as they have often been called, masterpieces. They are very good. They are not classical, timeless works of art.
I just really wanted to say that and put things into perspective, because the series has been hyped up and beat down a lot over its writing, and I think a little perspective is good for everyone.
So on a scale of Twilight to Lord of the Rings, Mass Effect sits firmly at Harry Potter.
You are all free to disagree with me, I just wanted to voice that opinion. Civil discussion go!
