Tali is also about the only LI that really cares for Shepard ...

Bulls#!t. Liara goes through hell for Shepard when everyone else left him to rot. She tracks down his dead body, steals it from the Blue Suns before they can deliver it to the Collectors, then takes it to Miranda so the Lazarus Project can bring him back to life. If you question her on Ilium, she feels guilty about turning you over to Cerberus and admits that she did it all because she just couldn't stand to lose you.

As for not being a shallow one night stand, Liara makes you promise in LotSB that you'll always come back alive before continuing the relationship. They even talk about marriage, lots of little blue children, and old age. The gifts she gives Shepard and their conversations are also deep and thoughtful. For me, all of that pales in comparison to the thing that really tips the scale in her favor: as part of being an asari, she is the only love interest that can ever truly understand Shepard. With the burden on his shoulders, that is very important. They can become one with each other during the joining... sharing emotions, thoughts and memories. This is where the only thing I didn't like about the Tali romance (at least in ME2) comes in: the way Tali describes her feelings makes it sound like hero worship. Liara feels like she treats you as an equal. Also, sure, Tali is a nerd (tech expert)... but so is Liara (archaeologist).

Of course, it doesn't hurt that the sex is great either. Liara would have several things going for her in that regard. 1) Asari are some of the most (if not the most) powerful biotics. I imagine the two of them (my Shepard is also a strong biotic) could find some uses for that. 2) Asari can join their nervous systems together and are able to consciously control nerve stimulation. 3) Asari are just naturally comfortable and confident with expressing their sexuality. Contrary to rumors and wishful thinking, this does not mean that they are more promiscuous.

You know what they say: "Once you go blue, nothing else will do."

To expand a bit.  This is my opinion only, and others are of course welcome to their own, but I'll try to explain as best I can.

I believe that Liara is the only perfect match for Shepard.

Tali's romance is too much of a case of hero worship.  Tali can't ever see Shepard failing.  Tali can't ever conceive or believe Shepard being wrong, or being weak.  Liara can.  Liara is always, always there, whenever Shepard wavers, and not only knows what is eating at Shepard, and why, but knows what to bring up and how to talk things around to get Shepard back in the game.  Tali doesn't really think Shepard needs her.  It's as though Shepard is gracing Tali with the romance, rather than a relationship of equals.  As awesome as Tali is, she's just not right for Shepard.

Ashley is too guarded.  Ashley can't just trust Shepard.  While she would never have Tali's issue of seeing Shepard as someone above her, she still can't just take Shepard's word about what is going on.  Shepard has to work way too hard for her trust.  Relationships are built on trust, and Ashley just doesn't trust Shepard.  Too much has happened, they've been broken apart too much, and Ashley just isn't able to rebuild what was lost.

Liara is perfect.  She never questions Shepard's positions.  She knows that, whatever happens, Shepard will always be Shepard, will always hold Shepard's views and morals true, no matter what (which is why the ending is a betrayal to her as well, as Shepard backs down from her own morals and accepts those of the enemy).  She knows that if Shepard is working for Cerberus, it's for a dang good reason, one Shepard believes is absolutely necessary.  Yet she also knows that Shepard is not infallible.  She calls out Shepard for self-doubt, or for getting run down and depressed as things go to hell.  And Shepard calls her out as well, for her own self-doubt, or the times when she gets too distant from the universe.  The two anchor off each other.  Each gives the other the eternal port in the storm.  No matter where Shepard goes, Liara will always be there when Shepard needs her, and vice versa.  Be that fighting through a fleet of Reapers, or just needing a hand off the floor of the cabin.

She's the only one who understands fully both Shepard, and the threat they face.  She's the one who realizes the chance for failure, who plans against it, and plans to save as much as she can should everything fail.  She also is the only one who understands that they need not weather this storm.  That they can leave, fly away in peace, and let the galaxy die.  But that they won't.  That neither one would let that happen.  That they are there, bearing the brunt of the storm, by choice.  Liara and Shepard can both entertain the idea "why does the galaxy need me", but they both know the answer, without even having to vocalize it.

It is the only relationship with such a beautiful level of understanding.  I'm probably not expressing it well, but I truly believe there have been few relationships written, especially in the gaming media, with this brilliant level of open emotion and understanding between the partners.

I was disappointed with all the other romances besides Liara. But then again, I won't be continuing many of my other playthroughs besides my main (which romanced Liara), so I don't mind much.

Back to the original topic, I feel fully fulfilled and satisfied with Tali. True, could do with seeing more quarian skin but I think part of Tali's mystique and appeal is leaving to our imagination how we envision her.

I know I won't be disappointed if Bioware makes an ingame model for her skin, face and hair, because those are secondary to me, but I can see why they haven't so far.

PS: Thanks again for the awesome sig banner CDHarrisUSF!

To be honest, I never expected to see how Tali looks like. Ms. Sroka´s voice is what makes Tali so magnetic.

Well yes. there was lots of good interaction throughout the game.  When she says she loves you, drunkenly says she is having a drink with her boyfriend... her human boyfriend...  etc. All good stuff  admit.  Still  I would have liked the hot 'naked' scene with her out of her suit though.  Maybe I just want too much.

I wanted that too, but am 100% fine without it. What is embarresing is we dont even get to see her in game unmasked... Well unless you count that picture /sigh.

I will pay bioware 5 bucks JUST to see a Tali unmasked, I'll bump it up to 10 if i get a lame sex scene!

Of course this assumes the new endings contain the possibility of living the rest of my life with my LI! Even if the rest of the universe be damned! I will eat tasteless rations the rest of my life if I can build Tali a house!

A clarification on the ending is unacceptable... polishing a turd does not change the fact that it is still a turd.

Does anyone know if different things happen if you take no love interest? Are there just no extra scenes to be had? I think it's unfair if there aren't!

Single Shepards should get scenes of their Shepard reading a book, feeding his fish, and other random things!

No special scenes. Your shep just wakes up from their dream and sits sadly on their bed. Alone. :?
I was hoping to at least get a friend talk with Joker or someone, but oh well.

Definitely. The accent is totally and utterly gorgeous, no doubt the most beautiful accent I've seen in a videogame (my apologies to Leliana's fans, it's the truth!). Bioware couldn't have chosen a better voice actor for it, and if Tali makes it in the Mass Effect movie I hope to whatever gods they believe in that they'll have her behind our favorite quarian's voice.

This. This. This. So much this.

I always had a dilemma in ME with choosing between Liara and Ashley, and then I played ME2 (+ LotSB). I finally figured out that Liara was going to be with Shepard and support him (in my case) no matter what.

Ditto. My femshep's <3 belongs to Kaiden and I love their talks and their goodbye brings tears to my eyes. Although she and Garrus did "let off some steam" after Kaiden was such a jerk in ME2. Garrus is a sweetie.

I also wonder if it's possible for Tali to have lil three fingered babies with Shepard... you know, humans being levo and quarians dextro. Who knows, perhaps they can even make a perfect organism that can evolve from both kinds of nutrients.

Though if asari can have children with turians, let's say space magic would allow quarians to have children with humans. (And before someone explains how asari mating works, I know it. It's still space magic. :P)

Something that not many are taking into account, is that asari lifespans range from several centuries to a whole milennium, while Shepard would die in just a few decades. That'll be okay for Shepard, since he's dead and he's gone, and Liara will keep looking all steamy hot for him all his life, but I fear for poor Liara seeing him wither and eventually die, either living soul crushed for centuries and becoming some weird stuff to overcome the grief (huntress, justicar, or just randomly nuts), or finding someone else to have fun with after some time of mourning.

Quarians lifespan is pretty much identical to humans.

Why does the idea even cross people's minds. Just because Bioware gave the Asari some strange reproductive system doesn't mean they completely through our the basic BIOLOGICAL principles for everyone. If humans and other apes can't reproduce with one another, why should humans and Quarians or Turians?

Nah, in my own head... Shep has got enough upgrades to at least double her lifespan.. Giving her at least 300 years. Still not much, but I see Liara as the loyal type. Especially considering Shepard was her first and she waits for you to 'maybe' be brought back to life for 2 years.

I actually think it would be beautiful if Tali+Shepard romantic affair ended up with them adopting Jona since they possibly can't have a child themselves (or whatever was the name of the quarian little girl that loses her mom in ME2 and her dad in ME3).

Though then we might as well rename the game "The Sims Effect"...

I said something about this earlier. Where was the intimacy??? Tali's scene was touching... but it left more to be desired, more balance. Just as you said, I felt Liara, Ash, Kaiden, and these two new characters got far more attention then anything, Liara being given the most.
