There are many reasons why EA/Bioware should take the release of the first Mass Effect game into serious consideration and I think we PS3 owners should keep asking both Sony and EA/Bioware until we get the game.

-Mass Effect is a trilogy, and every all the games should be available on the platform of choice without leaving the story crippled.

-PS3 owners don’t have the chance to play the whole story and grow affection to characters.
An interactive comic is unfortunately not enough to understand what fighting a Reaper on the Citadel means or how much of a threat the Rachni species was, for example.

-The PS3 owners are very supportive of the franchise, buying almost 1 millions of copies of Mass Effect 2 at retailers (plus digital copies) and near half a million copies of Mass Effect 3 at retailers (plus digital copies) only in the first week.
Numbers that doesn’t compare to the number of copies sold on XBOX360, but Mass Effect 2 was released WITHOUT Mass Effect 1 and 1 year after the release of Mass Effect 2.
Sales of Mass Effect 2 on PS3 close in on established and similar EA franchises on the PS3 like Dead Space. (During first week Mass Effect 3 moved more copies than Dead Space 2)

-A masterpiece is timeless, the release date doesn’t matter, as the recent release of HD ports clearly shows.
PS3 gamers are usually a fanbase that doesn’t rush to buy day one, but buys constantly and is fond of great games experiences.

-A complete trilogy could fuel the sales for Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3 since some gamers are on the fence on the idea of buying a game without knowing/playing the whole story. It’s obvious that a minimum number of sales will be granted by the fanbase that bought Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3-The game assets (voice-overs, translations, 3D models, soundtrack) and Engine is already up and working meaning not great investments from EA/Bioware, but turning out to be good profits.

-The eventual exclusives deals are not everlasting and expires.
Ninja Gaiden 2 was released on XBOX 360 published by Microsoft, but ended up on PS3 too.
The PC version of Mass Effect clearly shows on the box sleeve that the intellectual property of Mass Effect is copyrighted by EA International/Bioware”

As you see as proof, this is the sleeve of Ninja Gaiden 2 for XBOX360, published by Microsoft then released on PS3 too
http://www.coversdad...-cover-5644.jpg
The copyrights of Mass Effect are fully in control of EA International and Bioware.
So the point of Microsoft rights don't exist.
And exclusive rights are never perpetual.

Just a little quote about what exclusive rights are

In Anglo-Saxon law, an exclusive right[/b] is a de facto, non-tangible prerogative existing in law (that is, the power or, in a wider sense, right) to perform an action or acquire a benefit and to permit or deny others the right to perform the same action or to acquire the same benefit. A "prerogative" is in effect an exclusive right. The term is restricted for use for official state or sovereign (i.e., constitutional) powers. Exclusive rights are a form of monopoly.Exclusive rights can be established by law or by contractual obligation, but the scope of enforceability will depend upon the extent to which others are bound by the instrument establishing the exclusive right; thus in the case of contractual rights, only persons that are parties to a contract will be affected by the exclusivity.Exclusive rights may be granted in property lawcopyright lawpatent law, in relation to public utilities, or, in some jurisdictions, in other sui generis legislation. Many scholars argue that such rights form the basis for the concepts of property and ownership.Privately granted rights, created by contract, may occasionally appear very similar to exclusive rights, but are only enforceable against the grantee, and not the world at large.

Microsoft released Mass Effect, so their is no way that the first game is going on any other system. EA just doesn't own the rights.

Its a great idea as i would purchase it right away assuming they can prove to me they can patch this game to full copasity and fix the endings, but microsoft did publish it for consoles, and that sucks the big 1. So i dobt think that will happen :(

@masseffect While nothing has been set in stone, per say, it is very doubtful that it will ever appear on PS3.

yeah, I read this one one twitter, and it's really interesting.
because it doesn't affirm that there's no chance, but simply that it implies that it would be a strange move to release an old catalogue game without profitable forecastings.

That's why we PS3 gamers should show that we WANT the game, that we will buy it in a blink of an eye.
As I mentioned, I'm sure that whoever owns a copy of ME2 and ME3 is going to buy day one and take the s*** out of the game they have with renewed enthusiasm and multiple playthroughs.
And people that was still on the fence could buy the whole trilogy.

This is an interesting data
http://www.vgchartz....war-collection/
it proves that PS3 users base want their gaming continuity, no matter if the game is outdated
same goes for Resident Evil 4 HD and Mortal Kombat HD Kollection, that are 2 of the top selling PS3 titles.

I say that we must politely voice this need, organize together and bring it to EA/Bioware AND Sony attention.
We can discuss it during multiplayer matches, we can spread word.
We are civil and polite and we can do it.
I also really appreciate that a big part of the 360 and PC fanbase is willing to share the experience since they do really love the game and understand what a great piece of the puzzle is missing.

We didn't experience Saren's last moments and how it looked suspiciously similar to TIM last moments, we don't know who Shaila is....lots of things.

Given that Bioware loves what they accomplished, they know how much we need the original Mass Effect but we must fight a bit to have it.
We must voice this need.
Have it in the news feed of big gaming sites for example.

If they do I'd bet it'd be in a special ultimate trilogy collection type of set, including all three games and all dlc. I'd bet there would be changes to ME1 though in order to avoid any issues with Microsoft blocking it from happening. There would also have to be updates to both ME2 and ME3 in order to incorporate the extra ME1 centric content that was cut from the PS3 versions of both (well ME2 anyways, not sure about ME3) since ME1 didn't come out on PS3. I could see a multi disk release that does this maybe. That way they could incorporate any updates directly to disc and avoid all the extra fees it costs to release patches.

Thats how I'd like to see it anyways, I'd buy it if that happened, even with owning both ME2 and 3 already.

I already beat Mass Effect on 360, but I'd love to pick up a potential PS3 version with updated graphics.

I would really love Bioware even more than I already do if they managed to gain the rights to port the first game over the PS3. Like most here, I don't expect to see it happen, but I can dream. :)

It's really not that easy. There is something called publishing rights.

ME1 was published by Microsoft Games studio. Which means they invested money in the development of the game. Microsoft owns the publishing rights of the first Mass effect.

Now, some time after ME1 came out EA bought Bioware so obiously they started publishing their games. EA payed Microsoft for the publishing rights of ME1 on PC  (that's why the PC version is published by EA and that's probably the reason microsoft isn't mentioned in the PC copy of the game)... but that was only for PC. The publishing right for other platforms remains with microsoft and they will obviously not sell them because "the complete ME experience can only be played on Xbox and PC's" is a good marketing tool.

Of course the IP is still owned by Bioware and it was EA and not mictosoft that published ME2 and that's why there was no legal drama to release the game on Ps3.

There might be some way to release it on ps3 despite this.
For example Tecmo did release Ninja gaiden sigma 2  on PS3 despite Ninja Gaiden 2 being co-published by microsoft. What they did was remake the game on a whole new engine (not just an updated version of the same engine) and add and change just enough stuff for it to be considered a different game from ninja gaiden 2 (at least on paper). But for something like ME1 it would requiere a considerable investment (because it probably wouldn't be as easy as releasing it on a newer update of the unreal engine), and even so they would be walking on a thin legal line, not to mention that as a multiplatform publisher I don't think it's the best of ideas to get on the bad side of the people who own the Windows and Xbox brand.

I'd buy it if they did release but, I just don't see it happening; Bioware doesn't like us PS3 players one bit.

Guys, why be so negative?
I mean, asking politely something won't get anyone neither hurt nor killed :P

We must organize a bit, realize how we can ask, how we can get some exposure and give the project a bit of spare time.

I mean if we organize something it would be just normal and easy to point the project during a multiplayer match, it doesn't cost anything.

Because Casey Hudson explicitly stated that there are no plans [at this time] to release it on the PS3. I just can't find the tweet at the moment.

Ok I'll ask politely:

"Microsoft could you please allow Mass Effect to be released for PS3? You know, the SONY console which is also you competitor? You know...that game that a lot of people BUY your console ONLY for the sole purpose of playing it...thanks mate"

Got the point?

Even if that were true, Bioware could just pull a Ninja Gaiden Sigma and release it on PS3 with a new engine and gameplay mechanics. (Which they probably should do anyway, since the original Xbox 360 Version of ME1 hasn't aged that well since 2007)

Not everyone games on PC, or has a PC capable of playing all 3 games, such as myself.

incorrect they do not own the rights to mass effect 1 since that was done under microsoft when bioware was under their thumb hence why there has only been one dlc[current is pinnacle station}   for that game  at the time and nothing else has been changed EA owns  bioware SO THEY DO OWN ME2 AND 3, BUT NOT ONE AND  SO THAT IS WHY YOU WILL NEVER SEE it on PlayStation, and why in me3  only get to see it in a name but not actual landing area that you can land on and fight in due the IP thing

Even if MS was the publisher they can still do a remake of ME1.

Hell it doesn't even have to be just for PS3. They can make the remake for all 3 platforms and make some profit out of it.
