The main character from Evangelion.

Long story short, fifteen-year-old kid who causes the end of the world through sheer weight of angst after flogging the one-eyed dolphin to a comatose girl.

Clever. ^_^

But i think (as much as it sucks to admit) we just have to accept that there isnt any clever ending that is going to blow our minds. :(

The problem with your theory is that the only reason they ever built the crucible was to stop the reapers, meaning the only thing the reapers would have to do to stop the crucible being built was not show up.

boy this makes Marauder Shields even more of a damn hero...

The thing is it dosent even invalidate indoctrination....
Catalyst is trying to get you there...he is in a prison...he is why the first reaper was built and the citadel to imprison him...
He needs you to unlock him...
Reapers cant destroy it and thats why it is made important to the galaxcy...so nobody destroys it...
so both can happen AI grow to a point to were they can take over...a war happens & the catalyst through the citadel tells the synthetics to build the crucible...so the crucible wouldd get built without the reapers...
This is all a war between the catalyst & the reapers....
So if we survive the indoc & dont set him free...harby talks to us and we hold hands and imprison the catalyst forevers!!!!!

Wait.. so the reapers harvest us so we dont make a weapon that destroys the galaxy.. A weapon that only exists as a desperate measure to kill the reapers? So.. why dont the reapers just stop harvesting us and then we wont be forced to build the crucible?

Why dont the reapers just rule ignorant pre space flight species as gods? fire from the sky every now and then would make sure people dont advance technology.

People always think more complicated and convoluted is better, or deeper. Thats not always the case. And it isnt the case here for sure. all this fuzziness has donde nothing to the ME universe but make it an uncomfortable shore to understand. All this reminds me of that episode in the clone wars animated, when anakin, obi one, ans ahsoka, find the planet with the 3 jedi gods.

Right now the ME3 ending is like a sneaky artist slapping   a few cans of paint on a canvas, and calling it deep abstract art. Some insecure elitist people will pretend to understand it and praise it as art. To appear to be deep and knowledgeable , but most people will see the mess for what it is.. a mess.  a DLC dependant mess. How convenient.... for EA/BW...

So let me this straight...

...We were told that synthetics (the Reapers) were killing organics to save them from building synthetics that would kill organics but what actually happened is that synthetics were killing us to stop us from building a machine to kill all synthetics that was only built in the first place to stop the same synthetics from killing organics.

This may be even stupider than the ending we got.

Okay so we are back to circular arguments here.
The reapers(which are synthetics) are trying to save you from the evil star child that you arre gonna build to kill us, by killing all of you before star child does...okay

No ...what is being said is that the original synthetic "overlord boss type" became to powerfull for the organics to beat so they turned themselves into reapers to stand a chance....and were able to inprison it in the citadel...later the catalyst was able to convince a far advanced synthetic that it should build the crucible to set it free...thus making the reapers have to come and stop it from happining
...from then on the reapers determined it would be easier to stop the cycle before the synthetics got to powerfull...and that they could preserve the organics like them to "save everyone"...

The reapers can talk ... they could have just told people. If they told everyone this than there would be no need to attack everyone and there would be no need to built the thing.

 Alright, how about this:

The Reapers complete their cycles in order to stop organics from ever assembling the Crucible. The Crucible is an ancient superweapon powered by the Catalyst, an ancient incomprehensible lifeform. When activated, the Crucible uses forces unknown to control life and technology, and destroy it if it so pleases.

Back in the day, the Reapers trapped the Catalyst in the Citadel they created, because even they were not capable of destroying him. (The Reapers had to protect themselves no matter what) The Reapers also destroyed the Crucible, but its blueprints have somehow remained throughout the ages and cycles, always giving spacefaring races the chance to recreate it.

Reapers use the relays and Citadel to send organic life down a predictable path of advancement. Once spacefaring races inhabit the Citadel, the Reapers earn a compiled source of info, which they can use to find the relevant star systems when they scour the galaxy during harvest-time. However, the Reaper's tech simultaneously gives spacefaring races the ability to make the Crucible. Eventually, 50000yrs was exacted to be the best interval of time for which the Reaper's can start their cycles without running the risk of being too late.

According to From Ashes, the Protheans came very close to building the Crucible, but were stopped just in time.

Our cycle, however, managed to destroy the Reaper's vanguard and delay the harvest. This prompts Harbinger to take action. He knows that Shepard and Humanity lead the attack at the battle of the Citadel, so he uses the Collectors to take out Shepard. Also, he begins construction of the Human-Reaper because A) we are the most viable race in this cycle for Reaper reproduction, and B) Humanity is the race that seems to be the most capable of constructing the Crucible.

Once again, Shepard thwarts the Reapers, so they have no choice but to come in with direct force.

Fastforward...
The Catalyst has the ability to indoctrinate, so he does just that to Shepard as he approaches the Conduit on Earth. The Starchild's indoctrination later helps him when he coaxes Shepard (with absolute BS) to activate the Crucible. Destroy= catalyst's vengence on synthetics, frees himself from Citadel, may of may not keep Shep around for the hell of it; Synthesis= deprivation of Reaper's source of reproduction, catalyst is free, Reapers run away; Control= catalyst eliminates Shepard and enslaves the Repaers in one fell swoop, keeps Citadel around (and the relays, to some extent) for his later plans

EMS= how impressed the Catalyst is of your efforts, whether or not he wants to keep humanity around

In the end, we still need an ending fix. The original Normandy part still needs to be redone, and we still need an option that saves the galaxy. AKA Shep has the option to talk to the Catalyst- if reputation is high enough, Shep points out all of the catalyst's logical fallacies/ induced plot holes, completely breaks free of the Catalyst's hold, and orders the fleet to destroy the Crucible. Since the Crucible has the Catalyst uploaded into it, detroying the Crucible will end the Catalyst. The Normandy then swoops in and saves you if your EMS is high enough (otherwise you wind up sacrificing yourself). Shepard then has a final convo with Harbinger, reflecting on the past, and finally convincing the Reapers to leave. (if Shep died, a war with attrition is fought with the Reapers; using the supernovas of destroyed relays/systems leads the galaxy to a pyrric victory).

feel free to add to/ modify this-- buff out any kinks. i really feel like this "evil crucible" theory could work.

We need an ending with less plotholes. I don't care if we win or lose.

The crucible is the synthetic that kills all life in the galaxy. A plot twist by M. Night Shyamalan.

Which reminds me: Could anyone look if Shyamalan's name is somewhere in the credits? If the Lost director didn't consult on the ending, it had to be him.

I checked IMDB, he wan't involved...

So, maybe that's the clarification they're talking about.

agree but a large group of the fanbase can't replay the game because there is no reason to due to the feeling we get screwed and lose no matter what....so a win option would be nice..
