... the funny part is when you realize that this would have been a pretty great plot twist.

And then comes the realization that the Reapers are self-defeating. Would the Crucible have come to existance without them? Probably not. They built the relays, they built the Catalyst, they started the cycles- they drove organics to fight back.

Still it's more interesting than what we got :D The reapers are partly organic as well, so it is in there self interest to make sure no one ever makes the Crucible.

Just one thing, sayins without the reapers the crucible wouldnt be created is wrong.
Something humans have ( specially those who live in the northern emisphere ) is this necesity of build anything that seems like a weapon they can use. Liara said ¨i think its a weapon¨.. hackett ¨lets build it¨ typical human atitude.

You're not Bungie, you don't get to replace "t"s with 7s.

Anyway, interesting read.

I don't know if this has been addressed, but why wouldn't the Reapers take the citadel with them to dark space and make sure that nobody gets to use it? We know it can be moved so this would be an option.
No civilization has any reason to go there, especially because "there" is so unfathomably vast and empty that nothing could be found even if they accidently went outside. They wouldn't even look for it, since, without the Reaper threat, the crucible is nothing more than the most expensive novelty item in the galaxy.

Edit: corrected some typos

huh. But didn't the Reapers create the Citadel? And doesn't the Crucible only work with the Citadel? sooooo yeahhhh. New perspective still fails. Blew my brain for a minute though.

Cause the Citadel is the mass relay that allows them to travel from dark space. Moving the Citadel to dark space means they would have to use FTL travel to enter the milk way and it would take too long

No!!! ancient super aliens made the Catalyst, Crucible, and Citadel. Then the Catalyst killed them off, so these super aliens made the reapers to contain the Catalyst. Duh!

I'm not sure if I'm confusing something here. But after Sovereign's failed attack on the Citadel and the destruction of the Alpha relay, didn't they have to use FTL travel to get here? That took them about two years. That's pretty quick. The most important point is, however, that without the Citadel inside the galaxy no crucible could ever fire. So even if they built a billion of them, the Reapers wouldn't need to kill anyone because all crucibles would be useless anyway.

They could just use an alternate power source, remember in the previouse cycles they kept changing the design to get it to work, and eventually incorporated the Citadel. It isn't farfecthed to assume they could use something else, like the omega-4 relay, or something.

It also took less than two years to build the Crucible, which is another reason for wanting a quick enterance.

Could be. But didn't you say that it has to be the Catalyst (i.e. God-Child / software / ancient AI or whatever that franchise-killing abomination is)? It seems that the Crucible needs more than just an energy source, it needs some sort of intelligence or algorithm. Also, the Reapers began to exist inside the galaxy. This means they could've picked up the Citadel when they first left the Milky Way.

That is true, that they could have moved the Citadel, cause it host the God-Child ai part.. I dunno why they didn't, unless they want to leave the Citadel and relays as is so they could predictably monitor the developement of civilzation. If the head of civilzation is always on the Citadel it would be easier to monitor information networks for any information on plans for the Crucible. Perhaps any sigficantly powerful AI could control the cruible+powersource.
