Yes, this mirrors one of scenarios i've considered when wracking my brain trying to make a reasonable choice from what this hologram presented me.
What if it lies? What if it not what it claims to be? What if it goals are own, not aligned with Reapers? What if shooting this part of machinery will allow it to achieve its sinister purpose, not what it says to you will happen?
Lacking any information I've decided that following it's instructions is too much a risk. Even more risk than loosing the crucible,Earth and having to fight hopeless conventional war of attrition.

Slow down people. The guy that started this post is just dabbling in conjecture. Besides, if the Reapers were so called anti-heroes why did they appear so menacing. Why not simply tell us not to build the crucible. How retarded is Bioware and some of you guys for believing in such a theory? Accept that Bioware has messed up their story, and hope they learn from this and create a better story in the future.

That is true, that they could have moved the Citadel, cause it host the God-Child ai part.. I dunno why they didn't, unless they want to leave the Citadel and relays as is so they could predictable monitor the develope the of civilzation. If the head of civilzation is always on the Citadel it would be easier to monitor information networks for any information on plans for the Crucible. Perhaps any sigficantly powerful AI could control the cruible+powersource.

Quite possibly, yes. That would be a good reason why they would take the risk of leaving the mother of all weapons of mass destruction behind.
The problem is that the Crucible and its origin were never properly explained. They could just as well have found a massive magic wand, which it kind of is if you think about it. Until we get the extended cut, all we can do is speculate away.
I do agree with some of the other posts, you're theory is much more appealing than the nonsense they gave us. This whole situation is very sad indeed. I'm watching as one the very few franchises I care about is dying in front of my eyes. Here's hoping Half life 3 won't disappoint or I shall be very put out!

Anyway, it's getting late here. It's been nice talking to you.

I am not believing this theory. Just pointing out yet again that leaving too much "for the reader to imagine" when writing scenarios for the RPGs is not a good idea. Otherwise player could come with (completely logical) own interpretation you never intended, and later will be even more upset when you start "clarifying".
Look like whoever did script for ending never had RPG game master experience

Half-Life 3 will never get made in our life time... Valve time and all...

Nice talking to you too

There's no need to be insulting. I, for one, don't believe in any alternative explanations. I'm not even sure if OP does, or anybody else for that matter. All we do is throwing ideas around and trying to make sense of a tragedy, to put it melodramatically. In the end, it's Bioware who say what's canon. However, this doesn't mean that we can't comment on the quality of fan made stories. It's just that many have been in favour of those lately.

Still an interesting discussion to have, this possibility. Wheras intoxication theory is pure fun this one could actually be feasible.

One thing I am pretty sure of, smart paragon Shepard should've considered possibility like that when making a final decision. And the game forces him to act completely out of character :(

And the sad part?  The current ending is so bad that it makes -this- ending something people are seriously contemplating.  I am sadder now than before I read this thread.

Agreed.  I hate Bioware for what they have done.  :(

Pretty interesting theory, puts a much better spin on reapers IMO. Harby in ME2 was a pretty uninteresting villain.

The council and alliance would have never built the crucible if the reapers didn't attack first.THe same is true of the Protheans. Message to reapers, if you want to avoid the crucible just stay in dark space!

I like this theory

so, based on it, which would the end game choices be? promise the reapers we'll never build the crucible and ally with them to kill the catalyst?

I already had a theory like this.

The Reapers save us from the ending, the Starchild and from using the Crucible. From the Chaos of all the speculations and wtfs, from the Chaos of screwing over the galaxy with the Crucible.

Made a thread too, 'bout a week ago.
