Why wasn't Vega an LI? That really makes NO sense.

I mean I figure Beefcake Boy was almost put in BECAUSE of LI possibilities. That really makes NO sense.

Also, I've been flirting with him on my femshep on 2nd playthrough, and the sexual tension is just mounting between the two of them.

So why no mounting between the two of them?!

I admit I like his persona and I'd support a LI with Vega because of it but just curious are women really into that sort of figure?

Mostly I liked the flirting.  It was agonizingly sweet.

Since Asari are technically both sexes or can be I consider LIara straight.

From my experience, not every woman, but some women certainly.

I mean, aside from gay men, who do you think buys fireman calenders?

True but there is built then there is over built in my opinion. He looks like he must be so bored that lifting is his only pass time. There is nothing wrong it but I had to ask if thats really appealing. I really like his personality.

I think he's built a bit over the top, but I like his personality and voice, which surprises me as I've often looked down on Freddie Prinze Jr., but he's pretty good here.

Ha ha, I see what you did there.

Actually, I don't get the tease thing either.  There's that scene in the beginning where you talk to Vega and he's doing pull ups or whatever.  It seemed like fairly blatant eye candy.

Maybe he was originally intended as an LI and got scrapped for some reason?

Not that it means anything but looking in the CookedPC folder he is only called "Marine" and nothing suggest's he was an LI that got cut. Sometimes games will still have that content in it but turned off but that don't mean anything. They could have just renamed and cleaned it up if they cut the LI too.

The teasing was at least fun.

@pikey1969 I don't mind playing games with male PC's. Heck I pretty much end up doing that in every game EVER. It's just a rare and special occasion when I can play as a female character that isn't either A) Over Sexualized/Half-dressed or B) Completely reliant on others for everything. Not that I hate those types of PCs either (well sort of, if they're implemented right) but it's a breath of fresh air to have a female protagonist that is as accomplished as any male without a big deal being made out of it in universe. For anymore clarification please feel free to PM me so we don't end up cluttering the thread with off-topicness.

If we're going by physical traits, Kaidan is more my type.   Vega was more over the top "Heeeey look at this" *flex*, which was hilarious.

Aside from Witcher, why exactly do you guys feel that you can't have as much fun playing as a male? Is it a role-player's dilemma? (if it is, it's probably me that just 'dont get it') Or is it just the idea of not being given the choice?

Yes, to both.
Mostly, I don't want to be a man.  At all.  I don't want to see the world through a man's eyes.  I identify as a woman, and to fully immerse myself in a game universe (a truly sublime pleasure), I require the option to play a female lead.

In the past, and to some degree the present, I am able to enjoy games that involve a crew if there is a decent female character within the group (see: Marle from Chrono Trigger).  When it comes to things like Devil Survivor, the main character is, while technically male, androgynous enough that I can pretend (at least until I'm called "him", ugh.)

My fiance tells me that the Gothic series is terribly awesome, and I have not heard the end of how great Two Worlds 2 is.  But... I can't play as a woman.  So I won't buy and I won't play, because I do not want to be a man.

Oh god I know, he was probably the funest person to talk to next to ME2 versions Mordin and Joker.

It's strange that you couldn't start one with Garrus in 3. If he was open to it in 2, why wouldn't he in 3.

As a male who has played both genders but prefers femshep, I always romance Liara... except for that one Miranda slip up out of sadness on one of my male characters. But yeah, It's always Liara so it's not a big deal for me.

Vega would've made sense, but he probably just wanted to act like this was an alliance ship and you know... not romance your superior officer.

Games like Gothic annoy the hell out of me.
Now, games like the Witcher while I don't play I have nothing against (for that reason, there are others I have issues with though), Geralt is a set character from the books of the same name, and quite popular too I gather. They want to do a story with him, fine.

But Gothic? Gothic literally stars nobody, with no personality, no dialog or story, and you don't even get the option to play as a female. Nope, take this generic dude and like it! Yeah, no thanks.

It's baffling that Vega wasn't a LI. The flirting is there but it goes nowhere. You can flirt with Joker too but he turns you down saying he doesn't want a broken pelvis or a broken heart (lame Bioware). I just try and think of it in terms of Dragon age where I had Alistair/Zevran and Anders/Fenris. I just was expecting more in ME3.

Well once you put it that way, I get it, I don't think I need more clarification. I can defintely sympathize with that. ;p

It was just an interesting point, cause I never really encountered that complaint regarding RPGs on the forum I USUALLY reside in (Gamerswithjobs.com, great community btw, good podcasts too), then again as relatively mature as my community is I guess we still have too few female perspectives there (even though one of the regulars on the podcast is very much a woman).

Everyone knows Shepard is male... femsheps are just an 'alternate' universe. Like Revan being female in KOTOR or the Exile being male in KOTOR 2.

Besides... you should be able to romance liara as a woman in ME1... which carries over to ME2 then ME3. Liara is the canon romance of Mass Effect just like Shepard is male and the DESTROY ending.

Other than Hudson saying there is no cannon in the ME universe.

Wouldn't be my first choice, but personality-wise I liked Vega a lot better after he rammed into that Cerberus ship during the Mars mission.  That was sort of awesome.

As for the role play comments upthread.  Yes, I do prefer playing as a female character.  If the game has no other option but it's a great game, sure I'll play as a guy, but I don't ever feel like I'm really that character.  It's more like I'm acting as his silent guide or someone looking over his shoulder.

But if I want to play an RPG and actually feel like I fit into the story as a woman?  Pretty much only BioWare games so far have offered that level of immersion.

Off topic, but...

I read a lot of books, so playing male protagonists isn't objectionable. As I said, I played The Witcher. I'm probably the only monogamous Geralt that ever lived. One of my favorite games of all time is Planescape:Torment, which was a male only protagonist. That game also featured one of my favorite supporting characters, Fall From Grace, who just happens to be voiced by the wonderful Jennifer Hale.

I prefer to play female Shepard simply because I'm driving my own Lt. Ellen Ripley. And yeah, I'll play female lead before male if given the choice. Simply because it's under represented. If they chose to make the Mass Effect movie as Jane Shepard, it would have been something really stand out, instead of just another space hero. I'm sure Sam Worthington will get the part.

Anyway, I tend to replay some games from the male pov just to see what's different. For example, on my DAO male playthrough, I was shocked by the number of extra random flirting male Warden gets with various NPCs. I made my male warden look a lot like Heath Ledger, and I'm somewhat embarrassed to admit when playing a male protagonist, I tend to be a Vega type flirty womanizer. Morrigan and Leliana were really not happy with me kissing random damsels in distress.

It's fun and you know you liked it. ;p

My femsheps are usually ****s too. It's not like you're roleplaying, your characters is of the OPPOSITE gender, why not put a little spice in there to make the character interesting? ;p

Kingdom's of Amalur: Reckoning does it. Skyrim, not so much..

Borderlands, a little. It's an RPG shooter

But pretty much, yeah. BW is good at that.

I was just about to say, wouldn't more blank-slate RPGs like Fallout, Elder Scrolls be more in tune with building a female PC that isn't this?

I'm pretty sure Garrus renders the premise of this thread false. Now, you can make an objective observation on the number of LIs available, sure, but ... I mean, it's Garrus.

Yea, I'd do Garrus over any of the female characters myself (even though the premise of Turian-human romance is ridiculous), most of them are really boring, or I just plain don't like em (aka the germaphobic space goat).

I have a really hard time playing a game as a guy. If its good I'll suffer through it, but it just feels off to me.  When my son tells me I have to try a game, I ask if I can play a girl.  It usually involes bribes for me to try a game where I have to play a guy.

I agree I haven't found a company that gives me the level of immersion Bioware does.

Hm, don't think I've ever played any Tomb Raider game. Not my type of game, plus they always admitted she was designed to appeal to men.
Mind you some of the bikini armour mods for Fallout and TES are facepalm worthy, though I did find a great cyber-suit thing to run around in with Fallout, similar to an ME hardsuit.

Anyway I much prefer games with customisable characters over set, even if the set character is female.
