Everyone knows Shepard is male... femsheps are just an 'alternate' universe. Like Revan being female in KOTOR or the Exile being male in KOTOR 2.

Besides... you should be able to romance liara as a woman in ME1... which carries over to ME2 then ME3. Liara is the canon romance of Mass Effect just like Shepard is male and the DESTROY ending.

D'awwww that's so cute, having no grasp of reality and all that. Did you write the endings?

No Liara? She's there to romance no matter what,

Well… strictly speaking, she has boobs. Me, I love boobs, and if I’d liked her better, might’ve had my Shep romance her.

But if Liara had a schlong instead of boobs, would most straight guys have wanted to romance her even if it was said that she’s not really ‘male’ in spite of said schlong?

Uh... no?

Yeah, for any of my shep's that went with liara, it had very little to do with her personality.

Eh, I liked her personality.  I mean, I could have romanced Ashley or Kaidan, depending on gender.  Plus, of course, she was the non-fraternizing romance possibility, but even if not,  yeah, I like Liara.

Yeah my sister was pretty mad about all this. Basically if your straight femshep and not into aliens, Kaiden is your only choice. When she learn manshep could romance Kaiden as well she told me; "bah you could tell in ME1 he was kind of gay but to actually go with it and not add a straight romance in ME3 is just absurd straight girls play there games too"

What? I've seen absolutely no reference to Kaiden being romancable by either sex in ME3, except youtube vids which are unreliable. I trust the Prima guide more than I trust TouTube.

As for Femshep, there's also Samantha Traynor, who is such a step up from Kelly, and just a fun geeky gamer girl even just to have a friendship with.

Is this...satire?

No, I missed a word. I meant to say "male sex" not either sex, and I'm willing to trust the Prima Guide a lot more than I trust YouTube which can be edited by anyone...

As for Traynor, yes, she's romancable.... ask her up for game night and a shower...

My male Sentinel romanced Kaidan. I don't care what the Prima guide says. Seriously, I really thought you were kidding, it's well established that Kaidan is romanceable by a male Shepard.

Good point.

But, if I were to tentatively raise the point that "girls are usually a lot more receptive of other people's boobs than guys are with other people's schlongs," would it mean anything?

Yes, very true. I'm a female of the bisexual persusion myself, so I don't mind - but I don't have any straight female friends who would even vaguely consider romancing a character like Liara in a game. Yes, girls don't have the same issues with boobs that guys have with other guys' junk, but that doesn't mean they find it attractive, either :)

I wouldn't mind that...

And people seems to be confused about Asari in general. Monogendered = one gender.  They are ALL female. They reproduce through parthenogenesis. However hot the idea of an Asari with an extra may seem to a few people, that would make no sense, considering Asari can't get others pregnant, only themselves by randomizing a second copy of their DNA to avoid having a perfect clone

Of course that doesn't stop people from drawing. Oh the things I've seen.

Anybody have the survey results that were going around recently, showing that 90% of ME3 gamers are male?

To each his own. She was boring as hell though. At least when you meet her anyway (the Shadow Broker storyline at least added a cool history behind her character). Then again, Ashley/Kaiden weren't that great either imo. One was just, unlikeable, the other, completely boring. I found Garrus/Wrex/Tali to be far more entertaining, even without the lure of 'woo what does THAT one look like in the sack?'.

As Liara can be romanced by either m/f sheps idc, she's by far my favourite and I never found her boring, she has an interesting dynamic with LOTSB and is actually quite distant for a lot of ME3. I love her personality too, honest.

I dunno, both my BroShep (my "canon" Shep) and FemShep remained faithful.

My Bro didn't romance anyone in ME1 (because it was my first ever playthrough and I didn't know you COULD until it was too late (I bumped off Ashley, and I didn't get down the tree far enough with Liara). Miranda in ME2, and Miranda in ME3 (but dang it was really brief).

FemShep got Kaidan in ME1, remained faithful in ME2 (the picture scene in the cabin is nice, but probably not as much fun) and I haven't played her through ME3.

Looks like I missed out on a lotta fun.

What does that prove? I'm pretty sure that homosexuals and lebians make up a small percentage of those that buy and play ME3. Are you saying that gamemakers should ignore them and cut content that will appeal to LGBT since they are just a minority?

So does that mean lady gamers get to be screwed over? Besides, maybe male gamers want to play as femshep. Who knows!

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they shouldn't stop offering strawberry ice cream in Baskin Robbins because the majority of people like chocolate. Women have money too. I can spend it on whatever product I like, and that tends to be a product that takes into consideration that I as a consumer exist.

One random survey really says nothing anyway, I certainly didn't take part in it.

I don't like the "only a small percentage of gamers did X, so we can pretty much ignore them" mentality. As someone who saved Morinth in one of my playthroughs, only to find out that the big result of that decision was that I got to kill a Banshee with a name other than "Banshee", plus two emails (one to Shepard, one to Rila and Falere), I feel like Mass Effect's "choices" were all but irrelevant. The game may as well have been an Uncharted-style game with John Shepard, a Soldier, who romances Liara. BioWare gave us that game, with some minor easter eggs to appease people who had the temerity to believe they were making "choices".

The way I see it, yes... Femshep really got screwed over and not just in the romance department.  Not once did we get any sexy guys to look at, or to romance for that matter.  The men got more than enough.

Look at it this way:
In ME1 it was equal treatment in the romance department for both male + female (sort of, Liara is more woman than man).  Also, the woman characters all had the same build etc.  Kaidan and Ashley where both quite ugly.

But lo and behold! They give men something to look at in ME2.  What with Miranda and her Barbie doll body, showing off her sexy bum cheeks everywhere she goes.  Oh, and then they also get Jack... not wearing alot of clothes to start with.  Even Tali has a pair of swaying hips.  What do they give Femshep? Boring looking Jacob and Garrus who looks a bit like a Velociraptor with a fringe.

On to ME3.  Now what have we got here? Super sexy James Vega and femshep can't even romance him?! Okay, at least femshep has something to look at for a change.  Doesn't make up for all the extra's they gave the men.  Ashley gets a complete make over and grows bigger boobs.  Liara also went for breast implants.  Oh, don't forget about EDI... prancing around with her shiny boobs (she might not be a LI, but still a treat for men).  Also, Cortez is very handsome and charming, but he is only into men.  So, BW gives us Kaidan back, but for some or other reason he didn't go for a make over like Ashley did and he's still got a goofy hair style.

Maybe if BW gave femsheps the sexy James Vega as a LI, I would have been able to forgive them for alot of their mistakes.  Sadly, no such luck.:(

ME3 has zero re-playability, first time ever on a Bioware game for me. Wish I would've waited to buy it used for cheap.

Don't worry if you didn't romance anyone in the game. You still get screwed by Bioware in the end.

Fem shep is probably the definition of female hero without forced appeal to a male audience. In this society its weird to see it played so straight. But it works.. and in a good way

Sometimes you see this in supporting roles, but almost never as the main character.

And this isn't a.... "Oh my gosh... GAY PEOPLE IN MASS EFFECT!! What is the world coming to?" ... thread.

I
am just pointing out that in Mass Effect 1 you can only romance Kaidan
if you are straight. (I did and was quite happy about it)

In Mass Effect 2 you have a huge selection between Garrus, Thane and Jacob. Hurray!

In
Mass Effect 3 Thane dies and Jacob cheats on you. If you didn't romance
Garrus in the 2nd one then you can't romance him in this one. (Like if
you made the terrible call of choosing Jacob) So that just leaves
Kaidan.

I romanced Kaidan so I didn't even realize that
happened until someone pointed it out to me but if you are a straight
Femshep you've only got two potential LI's really, while Straight Male
Shep gets Miranda, Jack, Ashley, Liara, Diana, Tali and kind of Samara
but not really.

Although, I guess poor gay Male Shep didn't get any romances until now so I guess I'll just stop complaining.

I'm sorry, where you expecting something else? I think it's obvious ME caters largely to the heterosexual teenage boy fanbase with no capacity for anything other than ****** - I assume this is why a ton of effort was focussed on Liara's skin, rather than the storytelling or dialogue. Did you not see Ashley? Or the new sexbot?! FemShep was demanded by the female audience, yet blatantly designed to appeal to young, shallow straight boys.  Why else does she look like a 20-something y/o art student, when Sheploo looks like a 30-something y/o soldier?

LIs:

Straight Male Shepard: Liara, Miranda, Jack, Tali, Ash, Kelly Chambers, Allers, Morinth (8)

Gay Female Shepard: Liara, Traynor, Kelly Chambers, Morinth (4)

Straight Female Shepard: Kaidan, Garrus & Thane (3)

Gay Male Shepard: Cortez, Kaidan (2)

Gay male Shep, like you said, got zilch until ME3.
He's really the most hard-up (lol) because at least a gay female
Shepard has been able to develop a long-term relationship and have more
than a few weeks with her potential LI.  Not only has gay male Shep had to wait this long for anything, it doesn't even last!

Kaidan's gay romance was at least quite nicely done, but straight
femShep and gay manShep are kinda second thoughts in this department.
Sorry!

Straight teenage nerdboys like their space nookie. Why do you think Asari even exist?!
