Default Shepherd has always been male.
The story is really built around a male character.
Just because they give you an option to be a female, doesn't mean they have to bend over backwards for you. They try and throw you enough bones, no pun intended, to keep you happy, but don't expect near the level of options their original design was centered around.
And why not? The developers of DA:O handled the romance options perfectly in terms of balance.

Different games are different; different story lines are different.
Mass Effect revolves around Shepherd. DA:O revolves around an origin the player picks and lives through.
And mass Effect was released 2 years before DAO..

Apparently you have default confused with canon.
Wow, just wow. It's posts like these that make me wish for an ignore feature.

Garrus.
Even straight male Shepard wants Garrus.

You really are the angry one when you skip past the part where default and canon are one in the same.

There is no canon Shepard -.- stop saying default Shepard is the norm
Secondly, the comparision with DA:O is valid, because the options for romance go way back... Jade Empire?
Leafs43 wrote...
Jade Empire still was biased to the male role.
As was KotOR if you want to keep going backwards.

KOTOR had the very nice Juhani...
From Wookiepedia:
"Juhani is the first female character written for the Star Wars universe
that is a lesbian. An error in the first release of the video game
allowed player-characters of both male and female genders to access the
Juhani romance sub-plot, leading some people to believe that Juhani was
bisexual, but the error has since been corrected and the romance
sub-plot restricted to female player-characters"

If Kaidan and Garrus are dead in ME2, then hetero femshep has zero male options and lesbian femshep has 3.
