Im thinking about using this class but I dont like sitting in cover I like action. Can the engineer do this. My adept was an utter fiend on the battlefield so im optimistic that this other spell casting class might be playable in this fashion. The engineer looks like he has some cool tricks up his sleeve

Yeah I don't like the engineer either. I would only do it if you wanna waste some time.

The engineer can do pretty much what the adept can. Different names for abilities and you have to know the basics of combos, but then you'll be fine.
Just to give you an idea about how well it works, you can destroy a brute on insanity with Sabotage + Incinerate + Incinerate. Engineers are very powerful if you know what you're doing. I just don't think the combo system for them is well-understood by most people yet (and it isn't explained that well in the game).
