If you've done the romance line with alistair he'll never give you the chance

SO does that mean you cant enter into a romance with alister at all if you want to sacrifice yourself or do you just need to break it off at some point before the end game???? Cause im trying to get the ending where he says the mushy stuff over your corpse thats up on the dias after the battle.

I believe you can either spare loghain at the landsmeet, which will cause Alistair to leave the party. Then you can spare Loghain at the final battle if you want.

Is there no other way? I really dont want to have to spare loghain.

This. Just don't bring Alistair with you to face the archdemon problem solved.

But I thought leaving him at the gate made him act like you were never friends or something like that?

I can't say the right thing, but some of what is here is not right. My first character did the romance with Alistair, and talked him into letting her do the sacrifice thing.

She did get really pissed when Alistair announced they needed to break up for him to have an heir, and got a -20 from Alistair for what she had to say. Could that have made the difference?

If you are in an active romance with him you need to leave him at the gate (not have him in the party you take with you to go into Denerim) if you want to sacrifice yourself, otherwise he insists on doing it himself. The romance will continue just fine if you leave him behind.

Breaking up due to the landsmeet events may have a effect on whether the game considers it an active romance or not, I haven't played that scenario out yet myself, so I can't really speak to it.

If you break up at Landsmeet and take Alistair to the final battle, I believe he still sacrifices himself after telling you he was stupid for ending it.

I have got the self sacrifice ending - just to let you know - had romance with alistair but broke it off - their is 2 options before getting the self sacrifice option (I cannot let you do that), something to do with being a good king.
