Now, the game will open up from Origin fine but once I get to the "Press Any Key" screen I can hammer away at my keyboard and mouse for hours to no avail. The only thing the game will respond to, strangely enough, is the Print Screen key, but it will only get me past the initial screen. This issue only seems to crop up while I had it set to run in DirectX 11, DirectX 9 works fine - but occasionally after screwing around with various settings and such I'll get the game to work.

I've been searching through both the forums and the internet in general for any other situations like this, but haven't found any that help me. I've tried updating my video card's drivers, which seemed to help for a while, but the problem returned. I've cleaned out my registry, defragmented my hard drive, and cleared out my Temp folder. I've also tried running it with and without the various mods I've installed.

None of this seems to permanently fix the problem, however.

I'm running a digital version of the game bought from Origin, the game itself is 1.04, the launcher is 1.01, and the configuration tool is 1.03.

My system details follow:

Processor: Intel® Core™ i7 CPU       Q 720  @ 1.60GHz
Clock Speed: 1594 MHz
Physical Memory: 5.98 GB

Display Adapter: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730
VRAM: 1.00 GB
Driver Version: CATALYST 12.3

Sound Adapter: Speakers (4- Creative HS-720 Headset)
Driver Version: 6.1.7601.17514

Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium  Service Pack 1 (6.1.7601)
DirectX Version: DirectX 11 (Jun2010) or later

Any help at all would definitely be appreciated.

The idle speed of an i7 has no relation at all to how well it can play games. The Turbo speed is what means something. With a laptop running any Intel CPU, it's required to eliminate the onboard Intel video chip's interference to run games.

I don't believe it's the Intel chip causing trouble, it isn't listed under the device manager so I doubt it's being used - and this is the only game I'm having any trouble with at the moment.

Alright, the problem seems to be solved now, I had to remove everything related to the driver from my system and screw around with the install a little, but it seems to be working now.

You have to love technology.
