The Protheans have many memory storing devices, this one was probably one of those.
But since the Protheans were all hot shots, they didn't explain how to use this sort of technology to other life forms that didn't have the ability to communicate mentally, like Javik does with Shepard.

I had the same idea.But after i completely searched the Normady I found out,that the "ball"is just simply lost,maybe I can get it from an awesome DLC for $9.99
