Ignoring the ending, what were the other parts of ME3 that were badly done?

The arrival DLC really set up that Shep would get into trouble for the destruction of the Alpha relay. After all, 300000 dead people is not "collateral damage". Even if he/she didn't have much choice.

So it was kinda weird not having the trial play out. Not even in dialogue form. All we got was the committee, asking "what do we do", no big Shepard accusations for working with Cerberus etc. I get why it was done, to streamline things (like so many things were streamlines this time), but it's still bothering me a bit that we don't get to defend ourselves like we defended Tali in ME2.

Off the top of my head?

Alien romances. Except Liara.
The VS romances get this intricate scene, while Garrus and Tali get a couple of lines and a black screen? Bull****. I didn't like Liara or either VS, why should I suffer? Feels like a major step back from ME2!
Auto dialogue! Way too much!
The journal!
I miss neutral choices.
Having only one hub? The citadel was very well done ,but it was the only thing outside of the Normandy for us to explore? Ugh.
Dumbed down RPG elements.
Tali's photoshop? Come on, guys. You're better than this.
Forced Origin (not Bioware's fault. Not directly, at least.)
Diana Allers
That's it off the top.

The endings.
The rest is a damn solid and fun game, though.

Edit: More
Morinth's treatment.(A hub message and an email.)
If you romanced someone in ME2 that wasn't Tali Liara or Garrus, you get tossed aside.
What a tiny squad! >_>
Still terribly awful animations.

-The running animation. As my brother said... "Why does Shepard run like she has crap in her pants?"
-The minor quest pointers. "Where the fuq do I go?"
-The fact that the war assets were just numbers.
-No payout for saving the Rachni.
-Small squad size.
-Lack of dialogue wheel.
-Talking to squad mates in between missions felt like a chore, due to lack of dialogue wheel.
-Lack of information in the journal and mission log.
-Lack of side-mission variation and importance.
-ME2 squad cameos were quite crappy.

-The Normandy looked like an abandoned building
-The citadel I can’t put my finger on it but something was off about it . It didn’t seem to feel like real place any more.                                                                                                                                                                                                              -LI seemed  oblivious to shepherds feelings and situation . .                                                                                                                                                                                                             -The last push to the beam why wasint it a big epic asult like ME2 this was the war to end all wars ?

- Journal
- The introduction and high profile role of novel-only characters like Kai Leng and Vega. They felt out of place without having read the novel, imho
- Scanning system (although really unsure baout this one)
- crappy armor and cloth textures

For me, the last optional sidequests seemed short/rushed. Not being able to pause during auto-dialog -- that one hurts me in real-life.

-The journal is terrible. Why doesn't it actively track quests like in the previous games. Why downgrade it?

-Sidequests aren't good. The N7 missions feel tacked on and pointless, and I absolutely detest fetch quests. Why not give us more meaningful sidequests?

-Auto-dialogue. Granted, some are questions you would have asked through Investigate options, but a lot aren't. For instance, the first meeting with the Council; my renegade Shep would not be calm and patient and respectful like the auto-dialogue would suggest. Why go down this route? From the beginning of the series, we were told that this was OUR Shepard, and that we could shape him into whatever we wanted. Now that's taken away from us in Bioware's attempt to make a canon Shepard. Also, we were told we would have full control of conversations in RPG/Story mode, which is untrue. Is Action mode to blame for this?

-Lack of conversations and conversation choices. There's not much to say. A lot of times, we'll get Zaeed-style conversations, and Shep will respond sometimes, with NO input from the player. And when we do get an actual conversation, we usually only get two options. Why no neutral option? And the two options we do get are usually really similar, just a difference in tone. Just disappointing in general.

-Not my Shep. Example, my renegade Shep in ME1 was pretty disrespectful to any Alliance officer he could find. In ME2 he expressed enthusiasm at the thought of joining Cerberus and told the Council and Alliance to ****** off. Now, he's loyal to the Alliance and respectful to the Council? What? This isn't my Shep. This is again, Bioware's attempt to make a canon Shep.

The Udina coup. Just came out of nowhere. Especially considering that Udina seemed quite reasonable at the beginning. There should've been some sort of foreshadowing. And honestly, it just seems like the developers just wanted to give players a chance to shoot Udina.

-Kai Leng. I haven't the read the novels, but from what I've heard he's quite a menacing badass. I didn't see that in the game. I saw an annoying ******. Wasted opportunity.

-London. The quality present in previous missions just isn't here. I don't feel like this is THE mission to take back Earth. I would have preferred if London played like the suicide mission, where you assigned roles to not only your squad, but to the various armies you brought in. I wanted to see Wrex leading a Krogan charge, for example. Just another wasted opportunity.

There's other things, but those are the ones that really stand out to me.

Biggest issues I had were:

- Journal was crap (why they changed from succesful journal systems of ME1 and ME2 I have NO idea)
-  Lack of ME1 face import
-  Only 1 "hub" world that got boring real fast
-  NO WREX AS A SQUAD MEMBER!

Sidequests are probably the biggest letdown.

I was generally happy with the cameos by the former squadmates. Of course, would always love to have more.

1. Lazy thing with Tali.

2. Lack of war assets or former team members in final battle ME2-style.

I love the auto-dialogue issue people have with the game.

All of you fail to think about why exactly you'd need to choose dialogue in those sequences. Most of the complaints in this thread are superficial and misguided.

What the hell are you talking about, "superficial and misguided"? In an RPG, it's pretty normal to, I don't know, roleplay?  I wasn't mad at Joker for his joke after Thessia, but for some reason, my Shep was.

1. Crappy cameos for many ME2 characters, especially noticeable with ME2 LI
2. Horrible journal
3. Where's my Rachni army?
4. Disappointed at Citadel being only hub

I was disappointed by London, I was expecting a uber-Suicide Mission (entire squad involved, you see your war assets doing their thing, and you see the effect of your choices during the mission), instead you mow down wave after wave of Reaper mooks while the rest of your team is chillin' and your war assets are just a number that unlock the ending variations. A missed opportunity.

Also, useless journal and too much auto-dialogue.

I'm a little shallow, but my biggest problem (aside from the ending) was actually the graphics. On PC standards, they're just terrible. Or, more accurately, a combination of actually pretty good and awful, resulting in terrible. Especially every single particle effect and explosion just yanked me right out of the game.

It WAS rather linear, and quite short. I could have overlooked that…could also have overlooked the combat system and the multiplayer (neither of which I liked).

A lot of characters were shafted a bit, but I was hoping that DLCs would help there. As things stand, though, those are not the DLCs I'm waiting for.

Pretty much this. I'm sure that they ran out of time, because the rest of the game is perfectly done.

I'd add that the cutscenes in London, compared to those on Mars - Palaven etc. were a lot less.. convincing. Bad facial animation, sloppy animations.. meh.

I'm almost certain that they ran out of time, and now they're bending over backwards to fix it.

-No Mako exploration.
-Lack of planets compared to ME1 and 2.
-Auto dialogue.
-ME2 characters having near-cameo appearances.
-Reapers interrupting planet scanning.
-PS3 frame rate.
-Not enough of Earth.
-Citadel is the only hub.
-More of a focus on Cerberus rather than the Reapers themselves.
-Making femshep run like an American footballer still, even after claims that they'd sorted it out.
-Femshep's dress being a copy and paste job from Diana Allers. ME2's casual dress was better.
-Ashley not having much to say and being in a coma for aaaaages.
-Harbinger simply being mentioned.
-Not being able to holster weapons.
-Less dialogue options.
-Not being able to leave the Normandy through the air lock like in ME1.
-Not being able to explore Sol.

Lack of places to explore, lack of ''major living cities'' and not being able to use the conversation wheel as much as we were used to. That's a few of them

Agreed.  I loved ME1 and 2 and was looking forward to further exploring old cities and discover new ones in 3.  I understand that exploration is severely limited by the theme of the game, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't still disappointed.

There are plenty of gameplay and mechanics complaints I have, but they have 0 chance of being rectified. Technical complaints that might actually get fixed include...
-The Journal is awful
-The PC port is inferior to the ME1 port by Demiurge studios. There's no J key for journal, no U key for squad screen. For some insane reason half a dozen different functions are mapped to a single key. No ability to holster your weapons anymore. At least we have wheel scrolling and double-click in menus now...
-Lack of film grain. No point in removing it in the 3rd game.. the option has always been there to turn it off anyway.
-Semi-frequent animation bugs during dialog. Usually just small pops, but occasionally the characters look over at a wall while they talk to each other, something blocks the camera, or the characters are completely invisible.
-The face import bug. Gee way to go QA department. (Apparently there are also bugs with dead love interests coming back to life for sexytime before the Cerberus base and then dying again. Nice job QA, *slowclap*)
-Monkey run animation when you don't have a weapon
-Okay seriously, the game has to phone home to the server on every launch not once, but twice?? (one to verify, another time for a DLC check) This is disgusting DRM, and I know it won't be removed but Jesus H Tapdancing Christ have the game do the server check DURING THE START SEQUENCE. You know, that part with the UNSKIPPABLE intros. Don't wait until I interact by pressing a key to view the menu. This is something that should happen in the background while the game boots up, not after you're already at the main menu.

The main issue I had with the game was with conversations with squadmates aboard the Normandy. I loved that they would move around an interact with each other, but that doesn't mean I can't go up to them and actually interact with them. It was especially frustrating going to Liara (my LI) after each mission and just getting nothing but cold dialogue pertaining to what I just did. Then Shepard either just stands there or says something unprompted. That's not how this is supposed to work. I don't mind it if they have nothing to say at the time, but give me at least the illusion of interacting when they do.

After reading through this thread, I agree with most everything people are saying. The most glaring, however, is the last Earth mission. When I first played through I thought it was fun but it was lacking. Here, I see mentions of the suicide mission in ME2 and that's exactly what it was missing. The suicide mission was epic. Hell, it was one of my favorite moments in the series. Not because of some gameplay aspects or set pieces (it sure as hell wasn't the human-reaper) It was the feeling of camaraderie felt by this elite team you gathered over 50 hours. It was designating roles to your squadmates, and having the outcome affected by how well you knew your squad's strengths and weaknesses. That's how the final push should've been.

I also agree with the OP's assessment of the Paragon/Renegade system. It's gotten way too far from what it originally was in my opinion.

side missions, hub world, squad size and dialogue. Also not enough ME2 characters. Considering how well they implemented Legion and Mordin the only explanation I can think of for not implementing the others is time. Oh an the London mission.
