How about the ending of Dragon Age Origins? The option where you sacrifice yourself, THE RIGHT WAY?

So True. Suicide mission is one of the most emotionally intense part of ME. Love it.

God I loved the "evil" endings for Bioshock 2. The game itself may have had very little reason to exist, but the notion of playing the devil on my deliciously dark daughter's shoulder as she rains destruction down on dumbfounded dregs? Deeelightful.

That's how you make eternal damnation memorable.

There's this obvious one:

This death threw me for a curve - wow. But very well done, though:

How to do an open-ended speculative end to a game, with plenty of meaningful sacrifices, and a sense of 'where do we go from here?':

Posted Image

And again, how to include not just a hopeful, 'happy' ending with room for expansion, but also a meaningful, emotionally-charged 'sad' ending - in the same game:

Oh, don't give me those looks. Without Noble 6's last stand, the original Halo trilogy (and 4-6) wouldn't have happened. S/he gave his/her life so that MC and the Pillar of Autumn could high-tail it off of Reach.

Edit: GOSHDARNIT PHANTOMS NINJAS

I thought Witcher 2 was bittersweet, especially after you realized who you actually killed if you took the Roche ending.

Or 'the Happy Prince' - Oscar Wilde.

Or, for sci-fi, 'Star Trek: Deep Space Nine''s finalé - 'What You Leave Behind'. It's a war, people die, even those that don't are denied a truly happy ending, and there's a sense of '...so what now?'. But at no point do you think 'this is nonsensical bull**** that's been conjured out of nowhere', or that there's no sense of closure.

MGS3 had a real bittersweet ending; the ending of ME3 is just soul-crushingly depressing.
