Even though Dead Money was irritating to play through the first time and it undoubtedly has the most plotholes out of the bunch (like Dean Domino staying in Villa for 200 years), but I really, really liked the aesop, some of the story details, casino interiors and the oppressive atmosphere. It's definitely not my favorite, but I liked it for what it was, a side adventure.CalamityRanger wrote...
Also this. Dead Money's "perfect" ending is a work of beauty, even with being incredibly bittersweet.
What do both these games have in common? Chris Avellone as a main writer.I'll say it a million times, BW could learn a thing or two from this man.

FS2 was a bigger WTF? than Mass Effect 3, but it felt right, and amazingly bittersweet.
I was quite young when I played so it made sense to me....still those Juggernaughts would rip the reapers apart.

Bitter: loss of friends, family, and home -- consigned to live in the Wasteland for the rest of your days.
Sweet: acknowledged success, eplilogue detailing how your choices affected those around you.

My favourite (alas, no screen shot as I don't have any saves left) is from the original Fallout. You save Vault 13 twice over and the Overseer refuses to let you back in.

But NOT dying yourself because, see, if you're dead (Shepard) there's no bittersweet 'cause you're, like, dead and don't feel JACK SQUAT.

The final cutscene from start to end is just a very good example of how balance sacrifice and victory in just such a manner that the player still walks away with a sense of satisfaction at what he's accomplished.
I wonder what ME3 would've looked like with Karen Traviss as lead.
EDIT: This ending is also a good example of a "Lots of speculation for everyone!" ending. Because based on what it shows us, a lot of Gears fans have been able to put the pieces of the puzzle about the Locust together in such a way that it does provide the closure the story needs. We were able to figure it out on our own without explicitly being told.

I know it's not a game, but it IS incredible.
Spoilers ahead, don't click if you havent watched Six Feet Under!
This will destroy you emotionally, only in the good way that the ME3 endings didn't:

I always thought the ending to Vampire - The Masquerade: Bloodlines was interesting. Jack packing the sarcophagus with explosives and then hanging out with the corpse as he watches LaCroix's penthouse suite get blown to smithereens might not be bittersweet unless you side with LaCroix, but it's definately entertainment of the morbid kind.
Screenshot linked because 1600x900.
Indeed.LaCroix was a power hungry git though, so I never sided with him.I tried to play as his lackey once, and couldn't complete it.Watching him blowing up himself while laughing like a maniac is more fun.
I had found it quite funny when my Malkavian gave Nines and co. the middle finger in the end and walked away like a boss.Good times.

Ha, y'k now, when you arrive in Earth and start saying goodbye to squadmates all around and then you have the Shepard really badly hurt in that long walk for the conduit I had all this MGS4 vibe. I was waiting something on the lines of MGS4 for the ending, not the complete opposite.M2S SOLID JOSH wrote...

It was really the perfect ending. Over the top long, but understandable. And it just felt right. Snake would die very soon, little short life left for him, but no need for sacrifice/suicide. He could just ENJOY it. And Raiden being a father, the wedding (soap opera-ish lol but alright), the Ocelot fight, all the characters having very well defined closure for their roles. Damn man. What a catharsis.
