Got to the confrontation with TIM on the crucible.  Picking the blue options as I was playing a true paragon, not using renegade interupts.  The last conversation option is greyed out for the blue option (dont know why as I did every mission in the game, always picking paragon options).  Then TIM goes to shoot Anderson, I don't interupt as it's a renegade option, he then goes to shoot me, I don't interupt as its a renegade option so he kills me.

What the hell is with this?

Sadly it means you havent been paragon enough it seems. My Paragon Engineer i played in ME1-2-3 was able to make TIM pull a Saren by using all the Paragon options.

I dont know, i guess you did not score enough Paragon points in the game.

During all of the conversation with TIM beforehand, did you pick the paragon options?

i think it takes 2 runs on ME3 or an imported ME2 paragon. I had the same issues with full paragon and full renegade runs with new ME3 characters.

If i am not mistaken, you have to pick the paragon/renegade options when conversing with TIM, starting from Mars, proceeding to Thessia, then TIM's base, and finally the Citadel. To get those options to show up, you must choose the dialog option to the left of the dialog wheel.

This. Sadly, I missed the one on Mars in my first playthrough so I couldn't use the final charm option even though I'd collected every other reputation point in the game as far as I am aware. I was rather annoyed - but shooting TIM was still really cool.
