Maybe, but it won't be for the lore/universe, that's for sure.
If I did it would be because as now, it's the ONLY decent cinematic game set in space.
After me 3 ending, do you still plan to buy me4?

I don't know yet. But if the DLC in April will be any good, then I'd like another ME.

Yes, because 98% of the game was fantastic and I'm not going to let 5 minutes ruin a franchise that I care about. Sure, I was very disappointed with the ending, but that doesn't change how much fun I have had playing all of the Mass Effect games.
Games are made by people, and people make mistakes. I'm not going to condemn Bioware for the ending. I just hope they learn from it.

If they they fix the ending through DLC, certainly yes.
If they don't I will carefully wait for independent reviewers and lurk in bsn first.

if you hate bioware so much then how come you havn't deleted your BSN account to stick it to them?
Tried, it won't let me. How exactly does that stick it too them anyways? Plus, I'm still curious about how they handle the ME3 ending. Once I see how that turns out, I'm gone.

heh.
ME4? nope. Not a chance. Other ME games? Nope.
A proper remake of ME3? Yeah, I'd go for that.

Is there really going to be a Mass Effect 4?
#36
Posté 25 mars 2012 - 06:23
There can't be a ME4. Anything after ME3 is impossible because of the you-know-whats getting destroyed, and any attempt to work around this would either feel contrived or feel unrelated to what made Mass Effect 'Mass Effect'. Anything set before the end of ME3 would be pointless, since the end of ME3 invalidates everything. Anything set during ME1, 2, or 3 would inevitably be overshadowed by Commander Shepard. Anything set before ME1 would have a very narrow window of time to use, since in serious RPGs players need the option of playing as a human or a near-human race in order to feel connected to the story (most players, anyway) and the game would also not have to upset the stories of the main (ME1, ME2, ME3) games.

Any snark aside, I think the main problem is making an ME4 means that "the brand is an evergreen property." It's marketing jargon saying that it has a long life. But while on the surface it clearly does, it doesn't really to someone in marketing.
Essentially, marketers (long known for their love of contrived, cliche, hackneyed endings because they sell well) would want an ME4 or ME mmo to take place shortly after the events of 3, with a fully working universe and possibly a living Shepard, if only to find ways for the audience to actually interact with him (his living is not actually necessary.) But with the ending we got, all those possibilities are too weird...even if Indoc theory turns out to be true, for a marketer it's a failed experiment. I don't know anyone who's excited about the incoming movie adaption anymore. But if you try to make it take place before ME1, there's only a connection for us hardcore about the lore...this is why "Skylanders" is branded with Spyro the Dragon, even though he has nothing to do with that game...you need familiar mascots. If you make it even further before, in the Prothean regime, all the new races will make it not even feel like Mass Effect anymore. (Edit: Plus you know how it's all going to end in failure.)
I can't say that I like their ending, it basically ruined the whole franchise for me, but I give them props for not going the homogenized route and trying something new. They always intended a trilogy with a definitive end, against what the marketers thought would make more money in the long run, and that deserves a lot of respect.

If they make one? Hell yes.

Posté 25 mars 2012 - 06:33
It depends, if they go the prequel route, hell no. I've said it before and I'll say it again. **** PREQUELS!
If they continue the story in a post-apocalyptic Post-Mass Relay universe, with you at the helm of a new (customizable) character, then sure. I'll definitely pick it up when it hits the bargain bins.

I'd heard (not sure how reliable it was) that any future games would take place before ME1. I'm sure they'll try. I just don't think they'll sell nearly as well as something post-ME3 would, and I'm pretty positive their marketing staff whined about it more than once. I'm not a marketer myself so I might be wrong, but I'm a designer who only works for marketers, and they all basically sound the same. You start seeing where they're coming from after awhile.

I certainly would. ME is pretty much my favourite game series and I'm not willing to write it off based on the last 10 minutes of the final game. I'd be foolish to do so.

I love the ME world's, that and Fallout are my all time favourites.
But OMG do I feel short-changed on ME3. Where’s the rest of it? I seem to only have half a game!
It’ll be April Fool’s Day soon – that’s when you’re gonna make the big announcement isn’t it? Hahaha, it was just a demo – now HERE is the full game.
It had so many technical improvements, a decent storyline up to a point, that fantastic familiar atmosphere of ME, so I enjoyed what there was of it, but there was SO MUCH missing (can't list here, no spoilers allowed),
So, no, I'll spend my hard-earned cash on something that gives me more to get my teeth into.
