Now that the game is out and people are playing, just had a couple questions. (I don't have my copy yet.
) Is it required to specialize to Spirit Healer, Shape Changer, Blood Mage or Arcane Warrior? And when you do specialize, how does it affect the spell you have at your disposal? From the videos, looks like the specialists still are able to cast a pretty full range of spells, for instance. Primarily wondering if it restricts your choices or just enhances?
Thanks.
Thanks.

I believe it depends on how you're using the specializations. I know the arcane warrior at least has a sustained ability that drains your mana pretty quick. I believe that simply selecting the specialization has no downside aside from preventing you from selecting another one (since you can only pick 2).

It's not required to specialize, but it'd probably be worth while if only for the static bonuses you get for specializing. Blood Mage and Shapeshifter give a bonus to Con, for example, while SH improves magic and gives you a small constant health regen.
So, even if you don't want to spend your 1/level spell points on specialization spells, it's probably worth the effort to unlock them.
Just enhances.

Thanks for the replies. I was mostly concerned that specialization was in some limiting or restricting, but doesn't sound that way.

It doesn't restrict you at all. You just get a static bonus and access to 4 new spells/skills for that specialization. You still have access to all the old trees/spells that you had before.
