You didn't win, he merely lost.

When one loses by default, the other doesn't win unless they had reasonable reasons to do so, else it's just a neutral ending.

Again, debate rules.

Debate rules exist only because they have been accepted by the parties to that debate. In the absence of accepted rules for a debate, you have only logic. A logical argument which is otherwise valid is not invalidated as a result of poor social skills, and you don't lose "by default."

Quit telling other people how to argue. You're doing it wrong.

Yes, because it's done and explained that way in Movies all the time, and no one takes your argument because they understand movie magic and dramatic scenes. It's ingrained in society.

So one word in a codex entry trumps anything actually shown on screen? Just trying to follow the argument.

Actually, he's much more entertaining this way.

If you're going to act like you're intelligent then you're going to accept the rules of INTELLIGENT DEBATE, else you can argue like pigs and roll around in mud yelling at each other.

Provided the game implies that in other manners, yes. And it does, throughout the series.

Yes, when the codex entry says that the current whereabouts of a person are unknown, and you think you see them right in front of you in a location with which you are familiar, you are clearly hallucinating.

Something about the phrase "clearly hallucinating" brings a smile to my face.

The codes represents common or conventional knowledge, like an encyclopedia or the Hitchhiker's Guide. Reading about the Prothean's extinction does not make Javik a big fat liar.

He's right, you know... you are quite entertaining.  Carry on.

Meanwhile I'll look through my Intelligent Society membership packet and try to find those rules you're talking about. You'd think I would have noticed them.  Odd.

The weird thing is that people think critical opinion differing from "fan" opinion needs to be explained somehow. Critical and popular opinion differ for everything else, so why should games be different?

Thank you, no.

They certainly invited me often enough back when I was taking standardized tests in high school and college. I really never needed to join a smart club, it just seemed silly to me.

Dunno why people care about somebody who's obviously not played the game reviewing it.

It's just Bioware's version of 'reveiw bombing'.

Do people honestly care about what msnbc thinks? They're the ign of regular news media. Nobody watches them.

To an extent. We do get stuff like "cult classics" (Ex: Boondock Saints) which critics despise, but fans take to very well. I think it just comes down to the fact that most critics are expected to spread themselves across a variety of different games/genres. That we're the ones posting on the ME forums I think already demonstrates that we have more partiality towards this series than most others.

However, it's nice to get into the mind of a professional reviewer. It's easier to see the little man behind the curtain.

That's silly, Polite. Sure, they don't do as well as Fix News, but it's not surprising that people who can't handle the truth all congregate in one place.

Well, you've certainly found your caps lock key, haven't you?

Your examples prove my point. Debate in academic settings is done in strict accordance with the rules of the sponsoring organization. Political debates, the formal ones at least, also have rules, which the candidates typically ignore to great effect. Informal political debates are free-for-all fallacy fests, where insulting an opponent is often the most useful tactic for swaying the collective mind of the electorate.

I have to wonder where you thought you were going with this.

@ the Omega 4 relay fight.

It was implied that transit was going to be faster through that relay than normal by the power readings going off the grid and the fact acceleration is way above normal. Who's to say games and movies have instances of compression of time and decompression of time. You also have in game Joker telling you it will take this much time to reacjh destination even though you are at the relays. IT is faster than ftl but in many spots game implies it takes hours or days to make the trip. The cutscene in the Omega 4 played out more like real time than bullet time.

Just because something requires more power and the engines produce more power as a result doesn't mean it is going to go faster.  The extra power that the engine is producing could merely be the power the IFF needs to transmit its signal so the Normandy isn't ripped to shreds upon arrival.

The engine on the Normandy isn't just used to accelerate the normandy, just like a car today, the engines sole pupose isn't to make the car go forward.  It has functions other than acceleration.

What a self important jackass...
It hasn't gone over most fans heads the hardcore fans are people have thought about it extensively and tried to make some sense out of it, coming up with many theories on why it ends like this and what happens next...

But ultimately it was frustrating to wait 5 years for something that leaves more questions than answers, provides no closure and has a big inconsistency in the main characters (i'm talking about Joker's escape... just so you could have a stranded Normandy).

Good point. Seth Schiesel in the NYT  -- just about the only critic I actually pay attention to -- likes a lot of stuff that I wouldn't even consider playing. Which Is why he can do that job while I could not.

I do miss Desslock's reviews, though. AFAIK he hasn't written about ME3 yet.

Sorry you just lost the debate, why?  Because if we don't follow your rules we are obviously pigs rolling around in mud.

Now, gtfo.

Clearly you don't. I have to point out, though, that your review of MSNBC seems to suffer from the same problem as the MSNBC review of Mass Effect 3.

I find some of their programming to be pretty good. I appreciate the fact that their pundits confess their bias instead of pretending to be "fair and balanced."
