I bought the PC version of DA:O as for my past experience with Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights it best playing with keyboard/mouse for that type of game...
But now since I will be away from hom (meaning no PC for me) I thought I may buy DA:O on 360 or PS3... So I was just wondering how is the gameplay/controls. Is it easy to control / use skills/magic ? Is there a targeting system with a lock on option? A trigger to swith caracter ? How does it works on 360/PS3.
I will probably rent the game before buying it (again), but I just want some feedback before! And feedback coming from people who played both version is even more welcome!
Thanks!

well, I was in your boat until i bought this game. I had NWN and BG on my computer, but now my computer's getting old so i decided the ps3 could handle it better. I have to say I like the keyboard and mouse better, and planning your battles is harder on the ps3. i've been kinda just running in because its easier not to plan things out.
There's a way to target, and switch between characters, but its nat as good as pausing with the spacebar and switching characters from a top down view.

I am planning to buy the PC version for more tactical play and the toolset. On the PS3 you only are able to hotkey 6 abilities per character. And you rely a lot on character tactics.
If you are a mage you constantly use the radial menu for the vast selection of spells. On the PS3 Dragon Age plays much like kotor so its not bad at all. I wish they had kept up the kotor method of being able to queue up 4 abilities in succession but tactics sort of replace that. Once you get used to them. It takes tweaking.

The biggest reason I wanted the PC version over the console version is the "action wheel" vs the "action bar". I've played both Mass Effect and both KOTORs but I also play Warcraft and I like the action bar more. I don't want to say it is "easier" to use, but I feel it flows better than a wheel ever will.
And as it was mentioned, with the console version you couldn't scroll out as far for a more tactical view which is just icing on the cake in my opinion.

So basically the PC version is more tactic like the Baldur's Gate series on PC and the console version is more like the Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 console version ie kinda hack and slash.

No, the console version is like KOTOR. Still has the dice rolls but you only have control over one character at a time.

RPG/RTS: PC (Keyboard/Mouse) > Console (Gamepad)
Action: Console > PC
Action: Console > PC

Erh... examples??
The console pads is only superior in racing and flight games, and you can easily get a gamepad on PC for these purposes.
Otherwise, the PC keyboard and mouse combo is unbeatable.

I actually preferred the console controls. I liked the action bar on the pc, but the radial menu wasn't bad at all, and I love moving my character with the analog sticks. I'm not a fan of moving around with the mouse and keyboard.
You'll miss how the game looks on the pc though. With the graphics settings set on max, the game looks great. Playing on the console also means that you'll miss out on player created content. There's not much out there at the moment, but give it time and we'll start to see some great addons.

I didn't even consider racing and flight, actually. I'd think having a joystick would be superior, and there's better programmable flight controls for the PC. Hm. Of course, FPS is better on the PC as well. I was thinking of Street Fighter and Mario.Mobisto wrote...

RPG/RTS/FPS - PC Keyboard/Mouse > Console Gamepad
Platform/Fighting - Console > PC
Racing/Flight - PC Joystick > Console > PC Keyboard/Mouse?
Of course, if you get a gamepad for the PC, or wheels for the Console... yet the PC remains superior for many games like FPS/RTS simply because they're programmed for more buttons and such.
The difference between the console and PC DA:O for example is that they only have a comparatively tiny "hot bar". While I've dragged mine to around twice the default length, for something like two dozen buttons. Not to mention the control limitations for movement - does that still exist if you plug in a mouse/keyboard to the PS3? I suspect it's not coded for it.
