It's called exaggerating and hyperbole.
Show me one interview about a game to hype its release where this isn't done.

I swear you people are just looking for reasons to be pissed off at this point.

It's also called misleading advertising. And companies don't have to do it. If they choose to do it they have no reason to complain about customers getting angry.

Fixed that for you.
I mean have you people never seen a ****ing commercial or something?

So you are saying it is NOT misleading?

Yeah I was going to say something about how this was their version of developers using the phrases "epic" and "more realistic/visceral" at E3 presentations.

"Epic" and "more realistic/visceral" is expected puffery.

The effect of saving the rachni queen on the ending is non-existent.  There is no ending that is directly affected by saving or not saving the rachni queen.  Even as war assets, the "effect" on the ending is incredibly negligible.  2% or less of the required war assets.  Equivalent to having Diana Allers onboard the Normandy or doing one of the fetch sidequests.

Walters probably thinks she has a huge effect on the ending too.

The FDA forces companies to cease advertising products that intentionally mislead customers and make false claims.  Two excellent examples of this are the "Power-Band" bracelets and "Rip Fire.".  Both advertising campaigns were shut down by the FDA due to "false and misleading claims."  Your argument rings hollow, Mr. Walters.

Well, this isn't an Axe commercial. It's an interview for a video game. Like he said, Mac purposely exaggerated the role of the Rachni, and as a result you have people who are looking at the problems with the ending and seeing more problems with his exaggeration.

Wow. Sadly I'm numb to the lies at this point, and it's almost kind of funny to see how quickly he directs away from answering questions. So he can say he didn't lie...he just told a half-truth and then talked about something else for a minute.

Honestly, the worst part? Was the random question of "did you play L.A. Noire?"

"I watched my 14-year-old son in the house playing through it. It was
cool to see. Obviously, it’s a different game. We’ve talked about
whether can we do motion capture [like L.A. Noire] for facial
expressions. I think in the current way we make games, it would take ten
years and more money than we can imagine to make a game that way. But
that doesn’t mean that there isn’t something cool that we could learn
from that."

....you let your 14 year-old son play a game which features several cases of pawing over the bodies of dead and mutilated women? That's a little messed up.

? How many of us here weren't playing violent and graphic video games when we were 14? I'm guessing the number is pretty low.

Don't just go looking for reasons to bash the guy, now. I hate the ending as much as the next guy, but that's not constructive.

They should just be honest with us. They are just digging themselves even deeper by remaining silent.

Seriously, BioWare. Put your damned shovel down.

Depends on what you mean by violent since when i was 14 it barely got beyond red pixels. Not exactly graphic. The ratings are on there for a reason. Not trying to bash the man, just think it's not a good call to let your kid see/do whatever they want to.

I think humans are individual enough so that ratings don't need to be laws.

Unless, of course, you want to convince others of the validity of your artistic integrity.

So, on your birthday, Mac Walters lied to all of us, including you?

Does BioWare put more emphasis on writing than other videogame companies?
For sure. You’d be hard-pressed to find another company or another game that’s had eight writers on it, let alone eight in-house writers, plus a lead writer. [When I talk] to other people in the industry, they feel like they’re struggling constantly to get story into those games. They say, “I’m the only writer on this project. How do I get story into this game?” A lot of times writers are brought in after everything else is decided, and has to find a way to get the story in there. “Sprinkle that in, if you can!”
One of the key things we’ve been able to do on Mass Effect 3, more than ever before, is truly integrate a narrative in all aspects of the game. Level design. Art. Characterizations. Even audio. It doesn’t feel like “Oh, now I’m in the Story bit of it. Now I’m in the Gameplay bit of it.”

Get over yourself bro. 8 writers and the lead and you can't come with anything else but that ending? I'm starting to believe the rumors that you worked without peer review on that one...

Man....Reading this article just once again ignited my anger against BioWare...Don't expect them to acknowledge the fact that this interview exists, that these quotes exist, that there are other interviews out there that mirror the same points that this guy made. They'd all rather the media and public think that all these people screaming about the endings are just "passionate fans" who seek "closure and clarity" and want a "happy ending".

Mother****ers.

I think that they did not have enough time/money to complete the ending. They had more in mind and then simply cut it down to what way already there, made some differentiations and let it be.

the only word they can offer me that would make me feel forgiving is 'Sorry'. assuming they meant it and acted accordingly 'sorry' would be sufficient. Until they give us sorry, nothing else is.
