This just makes me sad. Didnt anyone even play the ending before they shipped it? Sometimes I feel like Bioware inhabits an alternate reality where the ending of ME3 doesnt suck, but someone the two dimensions have been confused.

With enough effort you can kill any franchise.

I'm pretty sure the Star Trek guys were also thinking "Our nerd-customers will buy any rubbish we sell them, Fanboy-customers for the win, lol." at one point before Enterprise and Nemesis.

Maybe the BS was an answer to the rumors circulating that the ending was horrible - why did I avoid the spoiler threads?

I thought not saving the council in ME1 would have an effect. In ME2 if you didn't save them in ME1 humans controlled the council. Yet that seems to have disappeared in ME3, with Udina stating the council treating humans like 2nd class citizens no matter if you saved the council or let them die. Which doesn't mesh with ME2. Then the whole rachni queen affair.Other than lip service it seems a lot of what you did in the last 2 games didn't matter at all in ME3. Which isn't what they we saying the last year. Same as with the ending.

It's called exaggerating and hyperbole.
Show me one interview about a game to hype its release where this isn't done.

I swear you people are just looking for reasons to be pissed off at this point.

It's also called misleading advertising. And companies don't have to do it. If they choose to do it they have no reason to complain about customers getting angry.

Fixed that for you.
I mean have you people never seen a ****ing commercial or something?

So you are saying it is NOT misleading?

No, he is saying it is ok to lie, because all advertising people lie. It isn't wrong or unethical, because everybody is doing it!

Mac Walters interview from February 28th, 2012 (which happens to have been my birthday ;)).

Click here for broken promises and flat out lies!

So, on your birthday, Mac Walters lied to all of us, including you?
I had no idea he was that kind of person. Shame on you, Mac! It was his birthday, for Chrissake!

  I guess Mac Walters is into gag gifts.

[The presence of the Rachni] has huge consequences in Mass Effect 3.

Yeah. Right. Can we file a class action for false advertising already?

What I want to know is what would possess Mac Walters to say the things that he did, at this late stage in the game? I mean, I'm not really all that informed as to the ins and outs of the game industry, but if Mr. Walters really was simply lying, wouldn't that have very deleterious consequences as to his further employment at Bioware, and for that matter anywhere else? It's hard to look at what he's saying (and has said) and simply see it as permissible ad-based hyperbole. So I'm left to ponder why he would do what he has done, wouldn't it be considered career suicide? Even if we say that EA has him over a barrel and he's acting under duress, is that enough to dismiss this? Is this sort of thing common in the game industry after the product has gone gold? Boy am I confused, let me tell you.

Man....Reading this article just once again ignited my anger against BioWare...Don't expect them to acknowledge the fact that this interview exists, that these quotes exist, that there are other interviews out there that mirror the same points that this guy made. They'd all rather the media and public think that all these people screaming about the endings are just "passionate fans" who seek "closure and clarity" and want a "happy ending".

Mother****ers.

Exactly.  And the fan criticsm is "incredibly hurtful?"  Unbelievable.

How is this even remotely true??? I got a few lines of text that tells me about Rachnii engineers working on the Crucible? That counts as "huge consequences"??? I didn't event see them at all!

Well that's a complete lie from Walters right there. Not only are Rachni not presented in the final battle, they never even appear neither they are mentioned agian after their mission, aside from small dialogue when you figure it out that Breeder went on rampage and killed scientists.

Add this to all the lies that were told before release, nothing realy new here. (The Rachni made me laugh out loud at just how bad a lie that was).

The difference between ahving the Rachni as a War Asset and not is pretty impacting to the game.

ROFL.

Yeah...as much of an impact as playing a single Bronze MP game through to completion.

In many countries there are actual laws against advertisements being able to directly lie, so you're incorrect. Sure, they can add it as tiny writing at the bottom, or they need to use ambiguous words, but they are not allowed to directly lie and I cannot think of a single advertisement that has completely lied.

However, that interview is a complete lie because it categorically claims things that are not present in the game.

It's the difference between a BMW advert saying: "This car makes you look great" and "This car has a 2V engine" when it has a 1.6V engine.

The former is hyperbole, which is fair game, whereas the latter is a factual lie.

I think that they did not have enough time/money to complete the ending. They had more in mind and then simply cut it down to what way already there, made some differentiations and let it be.

The ending could have been cut short five minutes and it would have been chepaer and less filled with plot-holes. As to the dialogue that was lost/repurposed, it could have been just radio chatter. But no...
