Ugh. Did they really not think that this would come back to them. I mean really. This is just a complete load of nonsense. The endings are virtually the same!!!!

Somehow, this video just seems more and more appropriate as time goes on.

I can't believe how much lies they spoonfed us... right up until the end.

hahahahahahahahhaha

The best part: they'll never admit there were lies/misleading statements in that interview

The excitement of the commentators at the end of the that horrible work of fiction that was done in the style of an interview really gets me. I was just like them. It saddens me.

How many war assets do we get for dem rachni scientists?

Crazy repercussions.

The generic "it's gonna be your story!" stuff doesn't really bother me. It's vague PR speak that should be expected to be half true at best.

The more specific part about the rachni stuff is disturbing though. Asides from being a meaningless war asset, your decision with the rachni doesn't show itself at all, in any form, in the final mission. If it had materialized as some minor cutscene or something, that'd be an OK statement. Hyperbole, sure, but still, it's PR. The fact that nothing exists at all makes it awful he'd say such a thing.

'Do you, as a writer or a player, feel close to any of the characters?
Having written Garrus in the first game, that’s a character I’ve always followed. I wrote him as well in the second game, but then handed him off in Mass Effect 3. It’s been fun to play through it as not the writer, and see where Garrus’ story went. Sometimes I have to pull the lead writer role and say, “That would never happen.” '

I have to pull the lead writer role and say 'that would never happen'? Why didn't you pull that role when the ending was thought up?

Mac Walters drew inspiration for Starchild from his 14 year-old son. I FIGURED IT OUT GUISE!

The fact that the interview was posted 2 weeks after the game was announced to have gone gold is the most egregious thing.

Mac HAD to know at that point what he was saying were falsehoods. Even if the interview was done some time prior, this stuff had to have been locked in. There's no way around this, he lied.

It's this crap that makes me genuinely p'ed at Bioware. They were deliberately misleading us with completely false statements right up to release, then get stupidly defensive about it when called on it

Actually about everything he says in that interview is true minus the Rachni stuff.

The sad thing is he did a better job writing all the lies and half truths he came up with for answers in that interview than he did the actual ending

Mac, can you use your lead writer magic on the ending, please?
:wizard:

Unsurprisingly this was my thought on reading that quote too.

How is this even remotely true??? I got a few lines of text that tells me about Rachnii engineers working on the Crucible? That counts as "huge consequences"??? I didn't event see them at all!

Agreed.  This is one of the worst lies of all--and one that was spread in-game in Mass Effect 2
