Jacob and James seem to kinda fill the same role, so I wanna know who y'all like better.  I'm all about Jacob personally, a little more seriousness and depth to his personality.

GO!

Vega. Dunno what it is about Jacob, but he's just so... lame.

Then again, Jacob has a disadvantage, since he already had a game to introduce him to everyone.

Jacob basically suffers three points:

- his background feels a bit tacked on
- he basically moves on from fem!Shep and gets another woman pregnant - in less than half a year. He didn't even try to keep the romance with Shepard. Priiize?
- overall not so enjoyable. Out of the bunch of badasses, he's the normal guy. Actually, that's not a real negative since you need someone who's grounded and doesn't come with major issues, but yeah, that's why he feels less special and more generic.

Vega on the other hand is pretty much awesome. Fills the same role, maybe, but feels a bit more authentic. And he's a goddamn marine!

Vega. I find him enjoyable, with a defensive yet slightly naive personality, kinda felt like a mentor around him. Wish they'd developed him even more, he has so much potential.

Jacob is just a little... I dunno, what's the word? His personality isn't very memorable, more often than not he made me cringe. I'm okay with "ordinary" characters (Kaidan and Ashley are my two favorite squadmates) but Jacob is super ordinary.
I never romanced him, but they handled that pretty badly supposedly.

Vega.

Just like for Jacob, Vega was hard to get to know (exept Vega uses humor, a bit like Joker and Jacob jsut slams the door), but with him, you feel the relationship is getting somewhere. On the other hand, Jacob starts by asking Shep to trust him and the more the game goes the more you realize he doesnt want a relation with Shep. He's just there to do his work: happy that things are working out but not interested in things getting personal. Which is fine in and of itself. But you need a good headcanon to make his relation with Shep more then that.

James, all the way. Never felt like Jacob had a very interesting or likeable personality. I still wanted to see what the romance route was like in ME2, but I missed or messed up whatever opportunity I had with him. I was more annoyed from a game mechanics perspective than anything else. And now, yet again, I find disappointment with Vega, for the exact opposite reason.

Vega

Jacob is okay but not very exiting. Vega on the other hand is very funny and great to have around. I really grew fond of him other the time. I was sorry to see he was not an LI though, the constant flirting between him and Shep (my male shep no less) seemed like teasing then. Maybe BW is planning to expand this by DLC?

Vega, hands down!
He's basically the rookie of the team, so he'll listen and learn from what you have to say, and like Garrus, implement that into his life. He uses humor at times, especially when talking to Steve. Jacob, on the other hand, was just meh. I didn't know what to think. Sure, I felt bad for him when doing his loyalty mission and liked the bro-fist when referring to spilling drinks on the Citadel, but that's about it. No real... character, especially for a romance option. And then he gets with another woman in ME3? What kind of faithfulness is that for a romanced FemShep? Just.. No.

I like them both, as long as I ignore what they did to a romanced Jacob.

Vega is a bro.

I was painfully indifferent to Jacob in my first playthroughs of ME2 but he eventually grew on me when I finally got the spilling drinks conversation. He's kind of a difficult character to talk to to begin with.

When you first meet back up with him in ME3 I thought he came off as a jerk. On the Citadel when he talks about having a baby he back to being alright, but its like his character when in the same circle it did in ME2 just in a much shorter space of time.

Vega is funny. Jacob is serious. I like both but Jacob sucks at combat and Vega is a powerful squadmate so I prefer him.

I thought I would hate Vega (and face it those shoulder muscles kinda looks wierd, distracted me everytime).

But I started to like him. Thanks to flirting I believe. And his sence of humour. I like poeple with sence of humour, so he wins over Jacob. He and FemShep has some really nice convos. At least she didnt sound as **** when she talked to him.
And he had grenades.

I prefer Jacob *dons kevlar flame-shield*
I have nothing against James, but there weren't enough meaningful conversations with him to get to know him. The boxing was neat, but aside from that, his characterization is pretty lax.
Jacob kept a cool head through most of ME2, which I appreciated. Always good to have someone relatively normal watching your back. Vega was a bit too hot-headed for my tastes.

I was among the dozen or so people who didn't hate Jacob. I appreciate the attempt at creating a character whose hand you didn't have to hold... but it didn't work very well. He's boring. And then they went and performed character assassination on him by having him cheat on a romanced FemShep. Srsly? Yeah, Jacob sucks.

Vega's better by default. But he's also a more believable and likable average-soldier-character.

I like Jacob when playing Manshep, he's just a normal, reserved guy. He has his principles and seems like a great friend. For ManShep that is. I have real problems with FemShep and Jacob since every time I start up a conversation I'm baffled at her tone. It almost sounds like she is trying to push something he doesn't want onto him.

That said I like James more. He turned out to be one of my favorites throughout the series and I wanted to bring him and Garrus everywhere.

Vega. Hands down. For some reason I couldn't stand Jacob, he annoyed me to no end and then he tried to flirt with me and I was like O.o NO THX.
