Various species surviving.

I don't get it. Every species saw huge decimation to their populations with the Reaper invasion. Now after they commit so much of their fleets to the Sol system, the Relays are destroyed. With no FTL travel it would take atleast decades for the nearest aliens to get home.

Look at the Asari and Turians. They suffered massive population losses. Now the majority of their space fleet is in Sol. The Krogans lucked out, with a mass return of wandering Korgan to Tuchunka but then we don't know how many turned around and left to help the fight.

Salarians seem to be the ones with the best prospects, their losses seemed the least extensive. The Quarians though face the severe danger of dying out. I don't recall seeing many liveships, so maybe they are at Rannoch and will make due with the help of the Geth (depending on ending).

Humans are in a bad spot too. Major cities destroyed and fleets ragged. Not to mention playing host to the other species in Sol now.

The Catalyst
So a synthetic lifeform makes the Reapers to keep advanded organics from controlling lesser organics and fighting the synthetics they themselves make that will inevitably rebel against them and destroying all organic life? I mean..really? That was so far out left field I had to watch the ending all three times just to really wrap my brain around it.

I mean for it to come to that conclusion would mean that it was said synthetic that wiped out organic life at one point in the past. Learned from the mistake before it was too late and set up a demented scheme to keep it from happening again.

So weird and strange and...questionable. I mean it goes through all this genocide for who knows how long then just because the Crucible gives it a few new options it allows you to alter its plan? The Synthesis part is understandable, as it solves the synthetic/organic problem. But destroy or control the Reapers undos all its done. Why would it even let Shep decide? How does him getting there prove it wrong? Why the heck didn't it make a Reaper come blast him away?

Only Synthesis is justified with the explantion given so far.

Why were the Relays destroyed no matter what choice you made?

Without inter-galatic travel the various races recovering becomes questionable. I mean there colonies all over that existed jus to make and send supplies. Food, fuel, minerals, ect. Sure there were popluation reductions from the war but still. Can the colonies survive on their own? What about homeworlds? There seemed to be a degree of dependence on travel and trade. It might not be to the degree of a make or break situation but you can bet it will affect how well some species recover from the war.

How would Shep and team survive?
The Citadel blows up. Shep is already near dead on his feet, practically in space when it blows. Yet there he is in the rubble (in space or on Earth?) and still alive? I mean really?

His squadmates on the Normandy...or why its in FTL to begin with, abandoning Shep. Makes no sense, such a break from character and the dedication they all had to one another, to just abadon everyone and run to save themselves.

Conclusion
I'm lucky in the fact that I had to replay 1 and 2 because of the import problem, so I heard about the ending being dissapointing. Not happy to see that the series ended this way, really had better expecations that this but...oh well. Very wary of the ending DLC they are putting out. I'm waiting for it to be on youtube and see if its worth the money. As for possible future ME related game BW might make...I'm suspect to the idea now whereas before I was gun-ho for it.
