Looks like Liara took voice acting lessons from Shepard

Note to fanboys: this is NOT Liara bashing. I liked her character a lot in ME1. Didn't romance her, but still liked her. This is more a lament on how clumsily they implemented her new personality in the latter installments.

That too. It also made her seem like a major creep in some scenes (especially the part before the Geth Dreadnaught where she talks to Tali about coming across certain "things" as the Shadow Broker).LadyofRivendell wrote...
I didn't find Liara monotone as much as I found her using the wrong emotion for certain scenes...

This. It's not exactly exclusive to ME3 either. She suffered a bit from this in LotSB.
Another thing, it was really weird how she seemed to be coming on to my male Shepard (Despite repeatedly saying he just wants to be friends) throughout ME3.

That's the reason I don't love her. I used to hate her because of her annoying robot voice, but after playing Mass Effect 3, I started really liking her personality and how they wrote her, but Ali Hillis gets a 0 for voice acting Liara.
Dunno. Maybe Liara is quite cool ... who knows?
Despite having the best romance, Liara simply isn't my type. Maybe it's generic character or her facial structure - sure, she's cute, but doesn't meet my preferences.

If Liara had a decent voice-acting job, she'd deffinetely be one of the best characters in Mass Effect.
Liara isn't "bad" per se, but she is wildly different. Jarringly so, even.

I don't think Liara's bad at all. I really like her character. Was it a book or a game without voice acting, and she would be one of my favorites easily. But her voice is dull, lifeless and she sounds more like a robot than EDI and Legion.o Ventus wrote...

Part of me likes to think Ali Hillis was half anesthesized while voice-recording.

I think Hillis makes Liara sounds like that because of the character and personality.
Hillis herself is very lovely and funny and talented, you can see from every interview.
Liara is very shy and tends keep everything to herself.
-She's been studying artifact and ruins all ALONE by herself for years. (Early in ME3 on Mars she stated that she didn't even talk to other scientists, implying that she still not good at get together with people and like to be with herself)
-Her only relatives died in ME1. (She just started talking to her dad in ME3, and by Shepard's help)
-Her friends (crews in ME1) went on seperate ways in ME2. and in order to become a good broker she has to act cold early in ME2 to scare people off since, for her, her age gives her no self-confidence.
-She may now have Feron but he's kinda like subordinated to her. So, I doubt she has any other 'real' friend apart from Shepard & co.
And you can see very clearly from the beginning that she is not good at talking and not used to be around people.
It was pointed out in ME1 when she didn't even get it when Shepard teased her in Medbay.
Even though she might get influenced by Shepard, she has clearly tried very hard on her own to speak out in a long dialogue.
So, from that lone wolf Liara, I think she's come a very log way to be able to talk to people as openly as in ME3.

^^^ This. Garrus and Tali changed between ME1 and ME2, but they felt like the same characters. They had just grown, in a sense. Liara meanwhile felt like a completely different character. Her complete transformation was nowhere near believable.
