Looks like Liara took voice acting lessons from Shepard

Having finally played through all three, I gotta say Liara's character took a major downturn by the third installment.  She was so drab, boring, and above all MONOTONE that I just couldn't get over it.  I get she was supposed to be a "badass", but good God, she had almost no emotion whatsoever.  It was almost comedic hearing her lament the destruction of her homeoworld in the same tone of voice that she speaks with in the entire game.

Note to fanboys: this is NOT Liara bashing.  I liked her character a lot in ME1.  Didn't romance her, but still liked her.  This is more a lament on how clumsily they implemented her new personality in the latter installments.

I didn't find Liara monotone as much as I found her using the wrong emotion for certain scenes...

That too.  It also made her seem like a major creep in some scenes (especially the part before the Geth Dreadnaught where she talks to Tali about coming across certain "things" as the Shadow Broker).

This. It's not exactly exclusive to ME3 either. She suffered a bit from this in LotSB.

Another thing, it was really weird how she seemed to be coming on to my male Shepard (Despite repeatedly saying he just wants to be friends) throughout ME3.

That's the reason I don't love her. I used to hate her because of her annoying robot voice, but after playing Mass Effect 3, I started really liking her personality and how they wrote her, but Ali Hillis gets a 0 for voice acting Liara.

She didn't show enough sad emotion when her planet got taken. Seriously, what's with all the anger and her trying to be a badass in ME3? Did the Liara from ME1 suddenly die out? I know she grew up a bit but she doesn't act anything like her past self.

Dunno. Maybe Liara is quite cool ... who knows?

Despite having the best romance, Liara simply isn't my type. Maybe it's generic character or her facial structure - sure, she's cute, but doesn't meet my preferences.

Still not as cool as Tali

Her breathy voice definitely contributes to the lack of emotion in her voice acting.

I don't know, I thought Ali was pretty monotone in FFXIII, as well... I mean, Lightning was one of the most boring characters I've ever encountered.

Because of this voice acting sometimes I feel like she has no personality.

If Liara had a decent voice-acting job, she'd deffinetely be one of the best characters in Mass Effect.

Let me put it this way: in ME1 Liara was so boring I never took her anywhere. I barely noticed her. In ME2 she became incredibly irrtaitng. In ME3 I finally started to like her. But she is still nowhere Garrus. Or Javik:wub:

I don't have any issue with Liara's voice, but she certainly doesn't have the best acting of the main cast.

I thought she did a great job. I always thought the character of Liara was private and closed-off. Just my opinion.

While playing I didn't notice any sort of decline in her performance. But I do strongly prefer the "innocent" Liara in ME1, I didn't pursue a relationship with her but I thought she was pretty cute. I can understand why people feel like an important part of Liara was taken away.

I love Liara. Always have and always will. And I think Ali Hillis is a fantastic VA.

Liara isn't "bad" per se, but she is wildly different. Jarringly so, even.

I don't think Liara's bad at all. I really like her character. Was it a book or a game without voice acting, and she would be one of my favorites easily. But her voice is dull, lifeless and she sounds more like a robot than EDI and Legion.

Part of me likes to think Ali Hillis was half anesthesized while voice-recording.

Ali Hillis' voice is one of the main reasons why I like Liara (but I like Shepard VA too...at least most of the time)

Ali Hillis does a pretty good job, but I'll admit that she doesn't have much range. All her characters sounds exactly the same.

Have you consider it's not her VA but her character that makes Liara sounds like that?

I think Hillis makes Liara sounds like that because of the character and personality.
Hillis herself is very lovely and funny and talented, you can see from every interview.

Liara is very shy and tends keep everything to herself.
-She's been studying artifact and ruins all ALONE by herself for years. (Early in ME3 on Mars she stated that she didn't even talk to other scientists, implying that she still not good at get together with people and like to be with herself)
-Her only relatives died in ME1. (She just started talking to her dad in ME3, and by Shepard's help)
-Her friends (crews in ME1) went on seperate ways in ME2. and in order to become a good broker she has to act cold early in ME2 to scare people off since, for her, her age gives her no self-confidence.
-She may now have Feron but he's kinda like subordinated to her. So, I doubt she has any other 'real' friend apart from Shepard & co.

And you can see very clearly from the beginning that she is not good at talking and not used to be around people.
It was pointed out in ME1 when she didn't even get it when Shepard teased her in Medbay.

Even though she might get influenced by Shepard, she has clearly tried very hard on her own to speak out in a long dialogue.

So, from that lone wolf Liara, I think she's come a very log way to be able to talk to people as openly as in ME3.

^^^ This.  Garrus and Tali changed between ME1 and ME2, but they felt like the same characters.  They had just grown, in a sense.  Liara meanwhile felt like a completely different character.  Her complete transformation was nowhere near believable.
