Does anyone else feel sorry for Bioware's Pax conference?

Maybe they should take a leaf out of Square's book:

About the Deus Ex boss fights:

“We didn’t know what they were for. We saw them as a way to break the
tension,” admitted the dev. But the fights weren’t designed until well
into the game development and the team were pressed for time. “We
figured by putting in enough ammo in the room, we would be fine and
could move on… next time we’ll think about them more. They were a big
part of the game and we should have put more effort into them. We are
truly sorry about that.”

Confession and apology makes it better.

I do not envy them for what they are most likely going to go through, but I do not feel sorry for them. They dug their grave, now they have to lay in it. They should have to own up to their mistakes, it is expected of everyone else, why should they be immune? If Bioware needs a verbal kick in the pants to keep them on track, then it is our duty as fans to give it to them. If we let them get away with this, we are just as much to blame as they are.

Here's a thought. Try not lying to your fanbase if you don't want them to "hate" you.

You know what, here's what I think is one of the main issues.  Everyone (Bioware, media, ourselves) keeps talking about us as fans .. the fanbase ... core fans.  And to a degree that's right.  But I think its been said so many times that they have forgotten one very important thing.  Above everything else that we are, we are their customer.  We are the consumer.  They're not making these games in a vacuum for their own enjoyment.  They are making it for ours.  I've heard people say, "They gave us this game and now we complain?"  They didn't give us anything.  We paid for it.

They need to remember again who we are.  I'm not some fanboy enamored with everything that comes out of your mouth.  I'm your customer and I'm the reason you get paid at the end of the day.  Without us, you don't exist.

I can't imagine the people on the panel will be looking forward to it. Well, unless they have plans for the thing that will make us all happy again.

i doubt they are afraid of anything, and they shouldnt be. but i doubt they care much..they shipped the game, made ea alot of money, and will likely make more with future mass effect content. this will all blow over eventually and people will stop caring.

Well... if I were them I'd be hiding under my desk rather than going to PAX right now. But I also like to think that if I were them, I'd have said "we screwed up and we'll fix it" by now, however much it hurt.

So no, no real sympathy.

Well i do feel a litlle sorry for them. 99% of the game are just incredible, but when you lie so much to your fanbase about something important like the ending... they brought this on themselves.

This.

If they lose their hardcore fanbase, they'll just shift gears and develop games in other genres, for the casual gamers.

I highly doubt things will be that bad at PAX, they still sold lots of copies of ME 3 they still have 75 perfect review scores. Believe it or not the people who dislike the endings are still a small number of people regardless of what polls say, 50,000 people =/= the 2 million that bought the game and theres probably quite a large amount of people who don't even know theres any kind of an ending controversy debate going on.

I'm sure the conference will be a ****-storm for them, unfortunately.  It's a little sad that everyone is concentrating on the negatively created by the ending and not the many massive positives the series brought to gaming.  Yes, Bioware really misread their fans with the ending they gave.  Yes, the upcoming "clarification" alterations to the ending most likely won't appease fans.  But overall they deserve praise, not condescension.  They'll get condescension anyway, because the majority of the gaming world is greedy and ungrateful lol.

I personally hope that any change they make to the ending is to my liking...but I'm not about to boycott Bioware's products if it isn't.

If they don't allow questions about the ending a real **** storm will happen.

BWs participation in the PAX conference was probably meant to be their big coming out party after the release of ME3. Hudson and Walters probably envisioned themselves as Luke (Mac) and Han (Casey) at the medal ceremony. They probably fell asleep a couple nights with standing ovations and thunderous applause in their imaginations. The reception that they could get (cold stares, scowls, difficult questions) will be cognitively difficult for them to handle, if they don't just psychologically block it out.

I don't want anyone at BW (or EA for that matter) to suffer. It isn't like they're press ganging child soldiers or razing and pillaging already oppressed villages. I do want them to face reality, though.

Agree with this pretty much. I've said it before but I'm a customer, not their friend. I may appreciate their products and work but I don't owe them pity or apologies for complaining about a product they sold me.

I'm looking forward to it. We'll get to see just how much they care. PAX will decide ME's future, and possibly BioWare's as well.

It doesn't matter if they address the ending or not, it will make or break everything. If they ignore it, if they pre-screen questions and don't take ones about the ending, or answer only in vague ways, ME and BioWare are done. They will lose so many customers, and be left a forgotten cog in the EA machine.

And they will have deserved every bit of it.

I think you need to be fairly thick skinned to work in the gaming industry anyway. Besides perhaps it's time to take some hints from the characters in their own game and own their mistakes, face up to them and make them right.

I do. I mean, even if things didn't go well for whatever reason, I can't imagine having to go and do a PAX talk with this much fandom rage. It makes me feel pretty bad.

well, I don't feel sorry for them. I feel like an ewok swooping in and dropping a stone on the emperor would have been a better ending for return of the jedi than the ending we got for me3. changing the nature of the bad guy can kick you in the b****, unless you do it right. Which they clearly didn't, imo. I'll just say my continued business depends on them fixing this. Some people may be okay with the ending - I just hold my entertainment to higher standards, I guess. That, and I expect to get what I paid for, *insert complaint about false advertising here*.

I wouldn't go as far as to harass BioWare at PAX. This is just childish. Ignoring their booth - fine. But harassment would just give fuel to already venomous media.

I feel a little sorry for BW but only a little sorry because they seem to be choosing their artistic vision over delivering on customer expectations that they help set. While I feel sorry for them I humbly believe they chose to inflict this upon themselves.

I would approach them if I could get a chance to tell them I'm disappointed with every aspect of the ending, from the false advertising, to the starchild, to changing the nature of the reapers themselves, to the 'buy more dlc' bit at the end.

and the colors. i wanted brown *wink*.
