On the bright side at least you'll get more downloads before heading into "semi retirement".
On the dark side it's not fair on new modules and with less people voting etc they could get stuck..

That's a good idea, I'd like other modders to do that, better to have all comments in the same place.MokahTGS wrote...
when I eventually release Jabberwocky, I will turn off voting on the Vault page and direct people to the Nexus page for voting and comments. the Vault system is broken and in accurate. A tool of days long past.
I may stop voting on the Vault now, and just limit myself to endorse on the Nexus and write the occasional comment/review.

But it's probably a couple of years before I finish it anyway so it might not even be an issue by then.
Arkalezth.. Good idea.

Well if you click on the HofF banner this is what it say's: "The current criteria is a minimum of 25 votes with a score of 8 or higher and have been available for at least 3 months. The modules section uses an additional requirement of a minimum 2500 downloads." Now how close the vault follows this, I have no idea.
The Vault follows this automatically...as it is an automated process. It took ages for my NWN module to crawl to over 2500 downloads and eventually get HoF status. I do not see many new modules getting 2500 or more downloads any time soon. The HoF is broken in it's current state.

Suppose there is a module that scratches and claws its way over the 2500 download threshold. In the course of garnering 25 votes, it sits at an even score of 8. Then the module is awarded Hall of Fame status.
Now suppose some player or players come along, and down votes the module enough to lower its score to 7.99 or lower.
Would they retroactively take away the Hall of Fame award? What would be the fate of such a marginal HoF module?
Imagine the outrage.
Harumph!
(If they ever let Edinmoor in, amazingly sitting at a 9 right now, I suspect that will be the end of everything.)

One of the most underrated mods on the vault. I really don't understand why it is not higher up.

Heh, I appreciate that. I'm just being silly. I know I've got a niche module, and I'm probably obnoxious with some design decisions. There's nothing brilliant in a technical sense, and the areas that look really good are prefabs. But I have fun writing these adventures, and giving something for players to run their characters through.

To me the only thing the hall of fame really does is refreshes the top 15. I never got a banner on my name either ( not that I'm bitter ) !

So far as I know, it is 25 votes of 8 or higher. Not an average at all. My role, as helper, is to tick a HoF checkbox (which is permanent) of the top 3 entries in each category each month. So, if 4 people qualified for HoF, then the top 3 get it that month. The 4th *should* be on top the next month, but it's possible 3 newcomers beat it out again... and again...Iveforgotmypassword wrote...
I thought it was just that you had to have a certain number of votes above a certain ammount not an average, So if a few people love your mod and the rest of the world hates it you're still in with a chance even if your average is 1.

Anyway, starting with a clean sweep (what can they do, fire me?) I approved all the backlog. I'll follow the guidelines in the future, but those projects deserve the recognition of merit, IMO.
As for banner, er, I think I have *those* instructions here somewhere, too :-P
PM me your details (vault username and what project got the award) and I'll try to figure it out.
I'm pretty serious about recognizing the people who have done so much for the games I love. :-)

The D/L threshold should be adjusted. What do you think would be a good threshold based on the current activity?
Hmmm, perhaps a better question is what D/L numbers are HoF-level mods seeing this year?
Give me some ammo and I'll see what can be changed.

It just got adjusted to 2500 I think which made a big difference. It certainly cleared out a whole lot of great mods aon a download go slow.
It depends on the mods as to how quick they go up the DL's. Risen hero scores well but is taking an age to get to HoF (only 4 - 6 DL per week), Fariy tale should qualify after just a year up on the top 15. Some mods up in the top 15 seems to be taking about 18 - 24 months to get to 2500 others a lot longer. If you're not in the top 15 like dorateen and some others then it's a painful loooooong way to HoF.
Equally voting is problem DM101 has 3000+ downloads but only 16 votes. I guess people are downloading realising it is not a mod and not returning a vote. For this reason DM 101 is not going to see HoF anytime soon.
For me the top 15 is more important than HoF, I think it the best advertising a mod is going to get. If it moved faster then more mods would get some recognition.
I would change the threshold to 1500 DL and 15 votes just to keep it moving along and let some of the 8+ mods get a look in but I also would not want to dengrate those modders who waited years to get 5000 DL's and 25 votes.
I would also like to see multiple mods like mine not appearing more than once on the top 15. Only the best mod from any author could be there. That would stop top 15 spamming from some modders. I have two slots right now so does the Cygni series. I could end up withy three slots if another mod goes up.
For me I would like to see a lowering of the standards to reflect the community and DL rate as it is. I would also like to see some more rules governing no of mods and some flexibility to allow mods that are stuck there for some reason to move up.
We all work pretty darned hard to get mods out and I don't think the current system works well for everyone.
