Anyone remeber the importance of Harbinger in Mass Effect 2? I do. He was the closest thing the Reapers had to a leader for all we know.
However, in ME3 he seems nowhere to be found.

Oh sure, you can say that that was Harbinger that blasted Shepard during the end run. Or you can say that the Child was actually Harbringer in disguise.

A) The Reaper that struck shepard looked like any other Reaper so we cant truly be certain that it was indeed Harbringer.

B) There is no real proof yet that the child was indeed Harbinger.

So basically they just tossed one of the most important 'characters' in the Mass Effect universe into the garbage it seems.

Do you think this is correct or am im missing something significant?

It IS Harbinger at the end. IIRC, his shape is a little different from most Reapers, and he had some dialogue that got cut from the final game.

I think it was Harbinger at the end based on the Silhouette and lights.

That said, I was really disappointed how non-existent he was in ME3 beyond this token appearance.

I have a theory ( and only a theory)

Harby was cut BECAUSE fans did not like him in me2. Something to do with not liking his taughts.

Harby actually offers ( cryptically) a better explanation of the reapers than the starchiid.

I really hoped for one last **** talk and then see the Normandy blast his ass back beyond the Far Rim

Why do so many people misspell "harbinger"? Are they not familiar with the word? It's not a particularly uncommon word...

The Reapers arent all identical to each other. Saying that you can recognize each reapers shape perfectly is a bit far fetched im sure.

Only Harbinger has those characteristic glowing yellow "eyes". That's what identifies him. You can see them clearly when he touches down on Earth next to the Conduit.

It was Harbinger.

Harbinger has four frontal legs. The other Reapers have five.

Harbinger has those yellow lights smiley face, the other Reapers do not.

This. Everyone made fun of Harby and his insults, so they cut him. It's a shame, because when you were actually talking to him (arrival), he sounded more ominous than Soverign

I have to say I REALLY missed Harbinger and his taunts from ME2. They really nailed down the foundations for a great villain type in ME2. I well and truly believe he was a great replacement for not only Sovereign but Saren as well. A big bad you loved and wanted so much to thrash and say to him at the end, "I told you so". :) *sigh* I miss Harbinger so much.

seriously Harbinger isn't a name... its more of a title

*goes to get definition from dictionary*

1.
a person who goes ahead and makes known the approach of another; herald.
2.
anything that foreshadows a future event; omen; sign: Frost is a harbinger of winter.
3.
a person sent in advance of troops, a royal train, etc., to provide or secure lodgings and other accommodations.
4.
to act as harbinger to; herald the coming of.

I think the cannon is that Harbinger is the closest the Reapers have to a leader.

Or maybe he was scrapped because of our negative response to his presence in ME2? You know, he was strongly criticised, ppl making jokes of him and bashing him for not being as badass as Sovie XD

The problem with Harby's lines in ME2 wasn't the lines themselves (100% at any rate) it was the fact that they looped over and over and over again to the point of comical effect.

Arrival changed that, perhaps too late?

you are entitled to ur opinion, but i see the repears as having no real leader, and i can't remember anywhere where it pplainly says hes the leader (or anywhere that says they have a leader).

If you look at the deffinition of Harbinger, that particular Codex entry brings this to mind:

Harbinger IS the Harbinger (or what some would call a Herald) of the Reaper forces, he is believed to be the oldest (though not confirmed) because he has been Heralding there coming from the very first cycle.

we know the collectors were once Protheans, and Harbinger sent them orders to begin Harvesting humans (as Shepard defeating Sovrerign worried the Reapers). it is very likely his major purpose is to do this during every cycle, send messages to the husks remaining of the last cycle to weaken any race that may show resistence, we could assume he would give the same orders the the various Husks of the current races (Cannibal, Marauader, etc)(if the cycle had finished).

therefore if this was Harbingers purpose, it would be a sign that the cycle is starting, therefore giving him the title "Harbinger"

He's missing his middle 5th leg and has glowing eyes. Not to mention he fires much faster than every other reaper(which makes sense considering he's the oldest). It's WAY too much of a coincidence for him NOT to be Harby.
