What did you expect the crucible to do? (before you beat it of course)

I kept thinking of farscape and the wormhole superweapon from that (way cooler then the crucible imo)
The idea that it was a "trap" seemed like it could have been a badass twist (though i guess in a way it was a trap..)

I was thinking along the lines that it wasn't gonna work, then the fleets would have to improvise.

Wish I was right.

ie xpected it to be something like the geth consensus. in the geth server you were deleting reaper code from the program, i thought it ould use that sort of logic to delete the reapers code or reprogram them.

I thought it was going to do what it did with the red ending, except without destroying the relays and creating massive plotholes

I was expecting it to be a final trap by the reapers. Just another piece of their plan to force organics down a path.

Independence Day-style disabling of Reaper shields or scrambling of their coordination.

Enough time for the largest fleet ever assembled armed with Thanix Cannons to do their job.

I figured it would send out a pulse and automatically kill the Reapers. I thought for sure this would be what everyone hated as it sounded like a massive and convenient dues ex machina. Good god do I wish I was right now.

Although I do really like the idea of it having been a Reaper trap all along.

It either wouldn't work or would disrupt the reaper "hive mind" sort of communications so they'd get disorganized

Farscape FTW Long Live John Crichton.......side note though I think that crucible seems like a classic James Bond villian thing I dout countless races built it over time adding something new to I think it's some type or reaper thing to get all our forces together to wipe us out while we build it.

This is exactly what I thought it was. When they said something along the lines of, "It's not written in Prothean." or something like that I thought, "Reaper trap to cause organics to waste all their resources on a fake weapon and then try an insane charge that would leave them all destroyed."

I guess the question now is, what did THEY think it was going to do, since it apparently really actually does nothing at all.

Thought it might transmit something that destroys/messes us Reaper code using the relays. Or something like that. Didn't really know.

I was expecting troll face to emerge from the Crucible once it fired, then for the credits to roll... no wait, what am I talking about? That IS what happened.

This would have been great. You find out the Reaper originally came up with the initial Crucible to get all the races in one spot.  Making your fleet fight with all their might whether they win or lose.

Something impressive. How they failed to meet expectations that vague goes beyond human rationale.

I was expecting it to use the relays to send out a pulse that temporarily disabled the reapers allowing the amassed fleets to mop up, rather like what happened with sovereign.

Exactly what I was thinking it was going to turn out to be.

I wanted it to do what it did.... give us options on how to deal with the Reapers each with consequences.... however, i did not want it to be merely a prelude to an ending....

Seriously.... I really did want what happened to happen.

Please dont hurt me....

Neutralize their Drive Cores, within a certain radius of the Crucible.

Basically allow Reapers to be trackable with their special Cores, and then make them sitting ducks to conventional weapons through Dark Matter/Dark Energy/Dark Fluid manipulation.

And I was hoping the data/research to calibrate the Crucible was on the Citadel, not some strange sentient being that chose to look like a child and so on.

I was expecting a weapon that could shoot FTL weaponry thoughout the Galaxy using the relays and pick Reapers one by one. Like a massive galactic artillery.

Like you know what they actually believe it's supposed to do in the GOD DAMNED CODEX!

Nah, I was really expecting it to destroy the Mass Relays, make Joker run away from the battle and magically make a few party members reappear on the Normandy.

I think it was Mass Effect 1 where one of the planet descriptions mentioned a massive crater that took up a huge portion of the planet's face and which was likely made by an enormous mass effect cannon. Thought the Crucible might be something similar.

But then space magic.

Well... I guess I'm just not that imaginative... I thought it was a giant laser gun what was basically a one hit kill on any reaper.
