ME1 for story, ME2 for the evolution of combat mechanics. I have more love for ME1 due to nostalgia, but when ME2 came out, it blew me away.

From a gameplay perspective, ME3 is amazing. Waiting to see what Bioware does with the ending related dlcs to make a final judgement.

ME1 was by far the best, the story was way better then the other 2.

I have to say that ME2 was my favorite. Sure it had it's share of issues but in the end of the day it was my favorite. I always waited with baited breath for more news and info on DLC. It was like digital candy. Heck, even bought the PS3 version when I already had the 360 version. Also, the music track "Suicide Mission" was epic. I have it playing on my stereo a lot. I sorely missed it in ME3.

ME2. It has the best work in characters. The final mission is more didactic (you can make right or wrong choices during the mission). And it has a good ending.

Mass Effect 1

It was a true RPG and not a shooter (me2) or marred by a bad ending (ME3)

ME3 might move up a slot, depending on the fixes we might see on the ending. For now, I enjoyed them all up until the last five minutes.

Mass Efffect 1 by a mile.

Sure, it had it's flaws, but the RPG concepts, the way they laid out the story and introduced the galaxy, the speeches when you get made a Spectre and on Virmire...

It just had not only the best RPG elements, but the best writing of the three. Basically, I think they went in descending order of quality.

ME1>ME2>ME3>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>ME3's Ending

Unsurprisingly, Bioware's OTHER major franchise seems to be following the same trend.

ME2 had the best characters and the most variety in locations. It's the one I've played the most. I also like how stuff I did throughout the game, mattered in the final mission.

I was hoping for the same with war assets in ME3, but nope. Just text. It's a shame, because using those to shape the ending scenes would have added a lot to it. It would have given a whole new incentive to gather those assets. Imagine seeing your promoted N7 teams somewhere in the final battle or those Elcor tanks they talked about.

ME3 has the best gameplay, story and would definitely have more replay value if it weren't for the shallow endings. Because of them, there's nothing to look forward to in your other playthroughs. No excitement.

The squad you get is also possibly the worst out of series. I wish the saying "quality over quantity" would apply here, but it's quite the opposite. Mass Effect 2 had a squad twice as large with much more interesting characters, I can't think of a single boring one. All I used in ME3 was Garrus and Liara, occasionally Vega. He turned out to be pretty cool.

I really dig the multiplayer in ME3, it has a potential of being much more too. Maybe if it had a few large maps with vehicles like the Hammerhead and the Mako. I could see it being totally possible.

It's 3 for me because of all the relationships that Shepard has had with his crew also reached their finale and it was great. Yes, I did finally beat ME3 yesterday and aside from large chunks of narrative that are missing from the ending, I couldn't wait to get my new game+ playthrough started.

I liked ME1 the best. The scope of ME1 was much larger, and there was just a lot more to it... Felt like a real RPG too.

I'm actually playing a game of ME1 at the moment, and it's still as awesome as I remember.

Series is great as a whole. I wouldn't of enjoyed any of them as much as I did without knowing that they all three interacted with each other.

ME2 had the best characters and the best locations.
ME1 had the best story and the most satisfying finale.
ME3 had the best combat and... well, I guess the combat was pretty good.

Like I said earlier. ME1 and ME2 are tied in my book - I like them equally but for different reasons. ME3 is a flawed game with strange design choices (mostly linear levels, auto dialogue hell, bizarre side quest acquisition system, etc...) and an ending so bad that I consider it the gold standard of how not to end a trilogy. It's certainly not a BAD game, but it is a HORRIBLE third part to a trilogy.

ME1 had the best story out of the three...but man, the ending sequence of 2 was amazing, and people generally remember the ending the most. It's a toss up for me between 1 and 2.
