Barring the ending of 3 I'd rate the series ME1>ME3>ME2 for me personally. 1 will always have the best story and music for me. 3 likewise has a great story and I enjoy the combat a fair bit (once again excluding the last 10 or so minutes). 2... While I don't really care for the actual storyline, the majority of the cast still make it a worthwhile game for me, plus LotSB. ♥
Now that you've played all 3, which is your favorite ME?

If I had to only pick one: Mass Effect 1.
They were all great (minus the ending of 3 - it's funny how we all need to say that), but I pick the first because this is the one that first introduces us to this grand universe. It instills in me awe and wonder in this epic setting. That's when everything is new. Seeing the Citadel for the first time: when the Normandy clears the nebula cloud bank, the music swells up, just awesome. Learning about the new races, the history, the technology. And being able to land on planets and explore. I know people didn't like the jumpy car physics, but some of the landscapes on these worlds were breathtaking, and just being able to explore like that added a larger scale to the galaxy.

I posted the following in another topic:
"Despite the clunky combat, I love the immersive qualities [ME1] presented; far better than ME2 & ME3. I'm one of the few who loved the Mako exploring...the elevators (and dialogue within), entering in and out of the Normandy via Airlock and the detailed customizations of armor and weapons. In fact, I'm still trying to beat Pinnacle Station so i can get Shepard's apartment."
I'm still a ME1 fanboy...but in order of preference:
ME1, ME3 then ME2.

they are all awsome.
ME3>ME2>ME1
the suicide mission is probably the most epic mission ever but they still improved so much from 2 to 3 that still ME3>ME2
the improvement of presentation and gameplay is fascinating
deeply moving storytelling
exceptional soundtracks
mass effect is pure win

Story: ME1
Squad story: ME2/ME3
Side missions: ME2
Finale: ME1
Replayability: ME2>ME1 (tedious mako/tedious inventory/tedious combat)>ME3(same endings/story on rails/less dialogue tree conversations/weak romances)
RPG elements: ME1 ammo mods & armor, ME3 everything else
Combat: ME1 non-cover-based focus, ME3 everything else
Soundtrack: ME1, ME2 collector base track

ME2 -> ME1.
I try to forget that other game. My ME saga ends with Shepard's death on the suicide mission.

I remember playing ME1 back in 2007 and dreaming of all the impact that my choices would have in the sequels. Maybe it was a pipe dream, but I envisioned ME2 seeming like a completely different game for my paragon and renegade Sheps. A slow disillusionment of that idea in ME2 and 3 means 1 will remain my favorite even if ME3's ending does get fixed. In terms of a favorite moment, though, it doesn't get much better than the Tuchanka mission in ME3.
Also, call me crazy but I actually loved the Mako. I remember spending hours at a time just driving that thing around, looking for minerals, and it was so peaceful and relaxing (unless a thresher maw showed up
). Scanning in ME2 and 3 definitely couldn't match up to that, though I did enjoy outrunning the mini-Reapers in 3.

ME1 by a lot. First game I got for the 360 and was blown away by the whole thing. I even liked the mako! Story, pacing, choices, an actual ending....
2 and 3 are better at combat but were too stripped down.
I have noticed a trend that makes me think i am not alone. I hear all the time about 10+ replays of 1, a few for 2 and not as many seem to want to replay 3. Just my observation though.

ME1 is easily the worst of the lot. I'm still undecided about whether ME3 is better than ME2, or not.

What a difficult question.
ME1 has the best RPG elements of the three.
ME2 has the best character development and story of the three.
ME3 has the best Action elements of the three.

Hmm... hard one. Whilst ME3 had the most epic feel to it, and the game is just fantastic before the whole space magic thing. I'd say ME2. It has the best from ME3 and ME1. Though I wish the combat was as dynamic as ME3 :-)

ME1 is my favorite. The atmosphere, the emotions, the decisions, it was new and fresh... all amazing.
ME2 I like because of Jack, Thane, etc... more characters, and obviously better gameplay action, but I missed all the armor changes you could make, and finding things in nooks...
But if ME1 is my favorite of all time, then ME2 is second. I won't comment on ME3.

Mass Effect 1 by far.
Mass Effect 1 = RPG, Story, Squad bantering, Shopping, Placing your squad location in battle.
Mass Effect 2 = Loyalty mission, Interrupts

ME1 of course. It brought something new at launch and mixed a great story with good elements of rpg and action.
ME2 was a polished product with a good amount of content. The main campaign was a tad short though, and rpg elements to much toned down for me. Still a good game.
ME3 did not look any better than number 2 (graphic) and I find some of the animations to look worse to be honest. How did they manage that?!
The shooting was better tuned and they had removed some annoying parts of number 2 (minigames and planet scanning). They also reintroduced elements of ME1 (weapon upgrades) which was nice.
Content wise it was/is lacking (squadmates + sidequest) and the missions feels much more linear. The dialogues were also much cheaper implemented and as we know it does not have any effect on the ending whatever you do. Exactly this was the core of the earlier games so how they managed to screw that up is beyond me.
Personally It seems like they rushed ME3 and made to many compromises. DA2 anyone?

Mass Effect 3. Ignoring the ending, of course.
It gave me the feeling that everyone I met from the first two games was out there, either helping with the war effort, or dealing with their own Reapers. It resolved many of the plot threads from the series, it gave some of the most heartfelt scenes in the trilogy, and the atmosphere was one of a glimmer of hope in the growing darkness.
Sure, the journal sucked, the levels were more linear and the auto-dialogue was borderline ridiculous, but I have always been more into the story and overall experience rather than nitpicking at trivial matters. And I can sense Bioware's passion for this series, overriding the pressure of EA. That, I can respect.
All Mass Effect games have a special place in my gamer heart, all memorable, but this one just happens to shine the brightest.

Replayability is everything for me, and I had it BAD for ME2. >
And I haven't finished ME3 yet, but I feel like it will fall a bit behind ME2, but above ME1. Unless my experience with the ending is truly terrible. Otherwise...
