Hi Everyone

Today, we received the 400 cupcakes you collectively sent us through your donations to express your feelings about the endings of Mass Effect 3. We want you to know; we are indeed listening to all fan response and acknowledge your feedback. We appreciate creative and thoughtful attempts like this one.

The gesture certainly gained our attention both with its creativity and deliciousness. However, while we do appreciate that fans were creative in how they expressed their views, after a lot of discussion, we decided ultimately the reason that they were sent was not done in the context of celebrating the work or accomplishment of the Mass Effect 3 team. This is a subtle, but important aspect in determining how to pass the feedback to the team.

BioWare regularly works with many deserving charities,  as such it was decided that rather than passing  out the cupcakes to staff or wasting good food, to donate them on behalf of our fans to a local Edmonton youth shelter. We know that for the kids that have to use this facility, something as simple as a cupcake is a rare treat and would definitely brighten up their day.  Thank you to the fine folks at the local youth shelter for accepting the donation and to the fans who donated the cupcakes.

Please keep providing your feedback on Mass Effect 3, we’re still listening.

I approve. Of both, the donation, and the fact that at the very edge of the picture you can see the bottom cut of a Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic poster. Well-placed, Chris. Well-played.

I find it ironic that they refused to pick from the 3 choices presented to them, when many of us wanted to but couldn't.

Anyway, it got the message across to them, and 402 hungry kids get cupcakes.

Wow, so what, if the cupcakes said "We <3 Bioware" you would have kept them?

What a bunch of nonsense, shows Bioware refuses to accept criticism in any way, shape or form.

Good for the Youth Center tho.

Now this is the only issue I have with this.

Honestly the whole "no snarky feedback plz." is weak. Especially hilarious coming from you Chris who loves to snark on the forums.

Ok guys, we all did good. Bioware got our message, and the kids got some food. If anyone is curious, I was interviewed by two separate news sources. One from Edmonton, one from Toronto. I will post links when the interviews are up. WIth respect to the charity portion of this campaign, this was my official statement:

"I'm glad that these Cupcakes were received, and also very happy that
they got donated to kids who need them. It doesn't matter who eats them.
RetakeME3 sent its delicious message, and did some good at the same
time."

We held the line, and Bioware knows how we feel. Again, we did good. Bioware has our letters, and hungry kids get cupcakes.

We held the line. Now we wait till April, and see where we go from there.

Thanks again,

Sam (aka LoganKey, aka Beretzik)

*claps*

While holding the line, stay classy.

I'd like to thank everyone in this thread who's posting their snarky or negative reactions to giving a bunch of shelter kids some cupcakes as a treat.

You're handing IGN and other haters a bucketload of ammunition on a silver platter. Can't wait to read some of these awful comments in a press article.

Way to help spread the Retake message. Thank you. /sarcasm

So again. Will there be proper proof of these cupcakes being delivered to those promised local youth shelters...an not just biowares word...biowares word is worth nothing now.

I'm actually starting to get pissed now. Not that these kids got free cupcakes, but the fact that Bioware could've EASILY told us what they were planning on day 1 of this campaign. Instead they gave us various replies of "YUMMMMM cupcakes."

Bioware you are a disgrace. You trolled us for no reason. This is a ****ty way to treat your fans..just saying.

You would not have been happy with any response anyway.

I wouldnt be as upset if they told us on DAY 1 of the campaign what they were planning to do.

This is PR talk. They had this written up yesterday, just for todays occasion. They knew they wouldn't accept the cupcakes, but they played coy all along. That's what makes me rage.

In all honesty, if you think about it, this is really the only option Bioware had.
Eating cupcakes to celebrate your fanbase being displeased with your work? You're forgetting who gave us all those Paragon/Renegade dilemmas. This was an easy one.

Well, just ignore the rage. Because that's precisely that BW wants. They want people to rage about this to get this headline:

"Entitled fans rage about Bioware giving cupcakes to homeless children!"

Sure...while calling on them to give it an ending that the otherwise FANTASTIC game deserves.  It is that the ending is so roughshod and slapdash that angers me most.  The game, the story, the characters, the way I (and family members who also play) got sucked in is a tribute...but the ending does NOT do the game, or us, justice.

Still, the cupcakes are fine with the kids.

Please don't get me wrong, giving the cupcakes to the children is a wonderful idea and by far the best thing to do.
I just want bioware to know that the cupcakes were not mockery towards them. They were send with good intentions.

For this game alone they deserve all those cupcakes. I've played never again a game like SW:KotOR. :)

I think it was a great campaign with a great conclusion.

People who think BioWare threw away the letters or didn't care about fan feedback are just being mean. I'm sorry but these people spent the last 5 years working on an amazing project which I'm sure they loved and nothing they ever did suggests that they mistreat their fans.

Sometimes I think some people just WANT to be angry.

Generally, after people are hurt, they tend to remain on the cynical side of things. Being a cynic is a less vulnerable position than being trusting.

Likewise. I've enjoyed pretty much everything Bioware's done (with a few exceptions), but I've never encountered another RPG to match the legacy of KotOR. Coincedentally, it was also my first Bioware game. It all started there.

Are you aware that most of us think the important part of the team is being alienated and held off this discussion, while we deal with customer support, Public Relations and the game directors?

All this fuzz is about how detached the end feel in comparison to the rest of the game, and how Geoff and Takyris threw some crumbles on how that happened.

Perhaps it's time to stop just listening to us and start to let your team act, instead of shackling them to a sinking captain.

I like the thought of kids getting cupcakes, but I can't stop thinking that Bioware just proved we are right. It seems they don't like "you may pick a color, but taste is the same" cupcakes just the same as we don't like "you may pick a color, but you're ruining galaxy anyway" ending.

.-I think youre missing the point. I dont think there is a single soul on this messageboard that has anything against giving to a "bunch of shelter kids".

The point is that they deflected the people who donated. They refused a gift, allbeit a gift given with toungue in cheek, but they refused it. They gave themselves permission use a fourth option, changeing the "rules of the game" for themselves. Thats what has people miffed. Not the kids. I hope those kids in the sheltere get sugarrushes all around :).
