Indeed, part of Mr. priestly's answer seemed like it was saying "only good feedback please" but his last post clarifies that. And even if he didn't do us the courtesy of clarifying that, taking out ad space or doing things that are purely "offensive" (both in terms of being mean and offense vs defense) is not the right way to express our displeasure to the Bioware team.

They are people with feelings and dignity just like you and me, and we should always remember not to get carried away no matter how soul crushingly depressing and horrible the ending to ME3 was.

Also, as egregious as the ending to ME3 is right now, for the moment we should always remember that these are the people that brought us the 99.85% of the games that (generally speaking) we liked.

So until they announce at PAX what they are doing to address the ending issue, we should remain calmly firm yet respectful, and if PAX comes around, or if they release the "solution" and all we get is more PR speech or half-a**ed "solutions" then my suggestion would be just to not buy from them and move on.

At the end of the day your wallet is your vote, and buying or not buying is the simplest, most efficient and most dignified way to express your displeasure.

That's exactly why I havent bought the game yet. Between all the Origin stupidity, day one dlc already on disc, and the atrocious ending, there's no way I'm buying ME3 until I see a light at the end of the tunnel...

Yep. Very good points! Admittedly, my first reaction to the idea was "Ohhh!! awesome" but then you think about it...lol it's a very bad idea.

Excellent points though, well stated.

Us actually eating the cupcakes or not should not have been the issue. The issue was fans creatively sent us a message expressing their love for Mass Effect as a franchise, but dislike over the endings. This message was delivered to us and we got it loud and clear.

People wanted you to eat cupcakes and tell us if they were as good as they looked.

You have betrayed the spirit of dessert by sending them away! :-)

Did they give away all the cupcakes?
How long does it take for 28 kids to eat 402 cupcakes?
What if the cupcakes weren't tri-coloured?
Were the cupcakes a lie?

Lots of speculations from everyone.

People are spinning this incorrectly to say we are not listening to "negative feedback" and how bad we are and etcetera.

Wrong.

We did listen. At no time did we try to stop Fuss for making the cupcakes or delivering them (this would be unfair to Fuss and to the fans who sent the cupcakes and a generally dickish thing to do). When the cupcakes reached us, we did not refuse to take them (again, unfair to the people who sent them). I, along with Fernando, Mark and Alistair went down, met with Shadow Wrought, gave him some swag for being brave enough to show up and keep us honest and took them upstairs. We took all of the included messages out of the bags and boxes so we would not lose them (again, cuz we're listening). We did not throw them away, ignore them till they got stale or not use them as what they are, food. We chose not to eat them and gave them to a needy charity.

The message REACHED us. Whether we ate the cupcakes, threw them in teh garbage or donated them to charity is secondary to us getting the message, right? If we had (somehow) frozen time, put them in a display case for all time as a reminder of the message sent by fans, this would have been the same thing.

Seems like everyone won. Gamers expressed their frustration, BioWare looks generous, and kids got fed.

I agree with addiction21.

Condecension will get us nowhere, and the comics that popped up almost immedaitely of BioWare burning the messages that were sent made me shake my head and sigh.
If we have a point we want to illustrate, making insulting memes isn't going to help. Don't need to wait for a moderator to tell me that.

I came in too late to be a part of cupcakegate, but this is what we wanted, I think.  For a message that isn't just some BS PR spin that acknowledges that we don't hate Bioware; we LOVE you guys, we love Mass Effect, and that's why this happened.  It's also a little hard to say the next bit without sounding mean, but I reallly do hope BW gives some thought to the 4th option they took and considers the ME3 ending.  I think a bit of reflection on that would help people understand what we're frustrated about, at least in part.

I still think someone should have take a bite of the forbidden cake ,take a picture ,and post it.
Not as a statement of "we messed up " but as a gracious gesture .
All the PR talking makes me feel like being in a middle of a cold war :s
I don't like it , i'm sure people at Bioware don't like it either .
Worrying about the backlash of a delivery of yummy cupcakes is kinda sad and insane .

Anyway kinda funny picturing kids receiving these blue red green cake and wondering what the hell is going on :D

Chris Priestly...you may recognize my username as one who is sometimes quite vocally angry or nasty...I am...but, I give you props on Bioware's (and your) response to the whole cupcake thing. The message is what counts and you all did a positive with it.

As for my anger/nastiness: nothing personal, but the series has been so damn good, so damn involving, that the wretched ending does no justice to it, to MY Shepard, to MY story. I seek to get that across with strong words (and perhaps insults) but that is all it is.

Props on the cupcake response (all of them) and props on the game series OVERALL. BUT FIX THE DAMN ENDING!! Do that and we'll be best buds. I'll buy you a drink if you ever find yourself in bum-f*cked-Egypt Indiana too.

If I worked for Bioware, I wouldn't give my employees the cupcakes either. You work on a game series for eight years, slaving over it, release a game to huge critical praise and then fans turn around and hate you for the ending. Fans are right to feel negative about it, but fans have been as loud as they could possibly be already. Why WOULD you give that staff a series of cupcakes that are veiled criticism of the hard work they put in.

I think the cupcakes were a classy way to say "we didn't like the ending but like you" to Bioware. Bioware's response... equally classy. There is nothing here to have issue with.

"Fans" feel like they've done something.
A small group of needy gets 400+ cupcakes.
BioWare gets good publicity off "fan" money.

I said it in another thread, I'll say it here: I think Chris and company made a creative and positive choice, given the situation. I'm super-happy the cupcakes went to a local charity, that kids are getting to eat them. That's fantastic.

Best Possible Ending to this episode. :)

I have to admit that while I was a bit disappointed as soon as I read the news...it only took about 5 seconds to realize this couldn't have ended better.  You got our message, our feedback, our criticism and, make no mistake, a sign of our loyalty and appreciation.  And the kids won as well.  This ended perfectly.

Indeed.

They found a way besides the A, B, &C endings they were provided with and even got a happy ending out of it
