People are spinning this incorrectly to say we are not listening to "negative feedback" and how bad we are and etcetera.

Wrong.

We did listen. At no time did we try to stop Fuss for making the cupcakes or delivering them (this would be unfair to Fuss and to the fans who sent the cupcakes and a generally dickish thing to do). When the cupcakes reached us, we did not refuse to take them (again, unfair to the people who sent them). I, along with Fernando, Mark and Alistair went down, met with Shadow Wrought, gave him some swag for being brave enough to show up and keep us honest and took them upstairs. We took all of the included messages out of the bags and boxes so we would not lose them (again, cuz we're listening). We did not throw them away, ignore them till they got stale or not use them as what they are, food. We chose not to eat them and gave them to a needy charity.

The message REACHED us. Whether we ate the cupcakes, threw them in teh garbage or donated them to charity is secondary to us getting the message, right? If we had (somehow) frozen time, put them in a display case for all time as a reminder of the message sent by fans, this would have been the same thing.

Us actually eating the cupcakes or not should not have been the issue. The issue was fans creatively sent us a message expressing their love for Mass Effect as a franchise, but dislike over the endings. This message was delivered to us and we got it loud and clear.

OK good then.

Just want to say I think
part of the reason we they sent you guys sweets was to say that even thought we
didn't really like the ending we apreciate you work.  So yes it was a dig, but I think it was also a way to say sorry for some of the vitriol that has been around these boards, here is a nice way to say what we think.

-I would lol at that :D.

I lmao when I read this, but would totally disapprove.

-Its a matter of trust. You might trust that they heard us to the point of acting upon it. I do not. I only have their word. Words that were given in vain, in error or in outright deciet (depending on viewpoint) so many times before. When I see something concrete, Ill relent. Not before. And I think it would be a mistake to relent untill something concrete has been shown.

Thanks Chris, I bet it really took some doing to pass up on all those cupcakes. Yum. It is a shame we can't see the kids' reactions to receiving so many cakes though, would be fun and heartwarming :)

Yep. Ah well. -_- At the end of the day it comes down to my wallet... ending not fixed? Not buying anymore bioware products. That simple. Hope others follow.

I didn't get a chance to donate or help out with the cupcakes, as much as I'd have liked to, but I'm glad the message was recieved without hostility from Bioware, I'm really glad and hopeful about the 4th option that was taken meaning there might be a new ending option on it's way, and most of all, I've now got a craving for cupcakes. Couple more weeks until I'm back in Edmonton and can get my hands on some of those deliciously addicting cupcakes.

I have to admit that while I was a bit disappointed as soon as I read the news...it only took about 5 seconds to realize this couldn't have ended better.  You got our message, our feedback, our criticism and, make no mistake, a sign of our loyalty and appreciation.  And the kids won as well.  This ended perfectly.

Indeed.

They found a way besides the A, B, &C endings they were provided with and even got a happy ending out of it

You guys eating the cupcakes or who you gave them away to wasn't the issue. The issue is that you said this:

"However, while we do appreciate that fans were creative
in how they expressed their views, after a lot of discussion, we decided
ultimately the reason that they were sent was not done in the context
of celebrating the work or accomplishment of the Mass Effect 3 team.

If I worked for Bioware, I wouldn't give my employees the cupcakes either. You work on a game series for eight years, slaving over it, release a game to huge critical praise and then fans turn around and hate you for the ending. Fans are right to feel negative about it, but fans have been as loud as they could possibly be already. Why WOULD you give that staff a series of cupcakes that are veiled criticism of the hard work they put in.

I think the cupcakes were a classy way to say "we didn't like the ending but like you" to Bioware. Bioware's response... equally classy. There is nothing here to have issue with.

I know that members of the RetakeME3 movement haven't felt any hatred towards BioWare and many of the letters and emails that were sent out included that sentiment. Unfortunately through the back and forth with certain disreputable game journalists who like to twist things for sensationalistic journalism have convoluted this fact.
Cupcakes were RetakeME3's way of displaying our frustrations in a way that isn't unsulting and even alittle bit funny.
I feel bad BioWare didn't eat them, but I can't complain with the way they handled the situation. They got the message, that's what's important.

Thanks for the clarification, Chris.

Try to understand how many of us feel, though, when every response we get sums up to:

Thanks, but..

or

Sorry, but...

Everytime you  (Bioware) address fans that are upset with the end there's always mention of positive reviews or fans who like the ending and hints towards how we should be providing you feedback that are way too open to interpretation.

It's frustrating.

I just wanted to see one thing where we were told we were being listened to without reminding us how awesome everyone thinks you are like we don't think you're awesome(we do, really!), or reminding us that there are people out there giving "bad" feedback.

We're sorry.
Thank you.
We're Listening.
Be civil.
The end.

EDIT: I deal with angry customers every day. Some I feel may be unjustified but most are entirely justified and I've learned that leaving out the BUTS goes a long way and can improve how they approach us with their complaints.

Anyway kinda funny picturing kids receiving these blue red green cake and wondering what the hell is going on :D

This.

I want that whole thing to be over so badly. Get the ending my Shepards deserve and go back to loving every game Bioware develops.

Nothing of this we of Retake  are in this corner, you Bioware in the opposite and you few disgruntled kids who love the ending stay over there.
