Gotcha, Bioware.

:police:

And here are the people I am talking about.

It does not matter what happens as long as they can twist it into some condescending meme.

Bioware is not a person and a company doesn't have feelings.

Cupcakes were RetakeME3's way of displaying our frustrations in a way that isn't unsulting and even alittle bit funny.
I feel bad BioWare didn't eat them, but I can't complain with the way they handled the situation. They got the message, that's what's important.

I agree that most members of the movement didn't feel hatred. I would say that many of the more vocal fans did go on at length about how Bioware sold out. How they would never buy anything again. There were personal attacks, and bombed review scores. Every statement has been read between the lines and often twisted.

The cupcake move does not fall into that category, it was a very cool way to deal with it, the same as MOST fans being relatively calm but critical in their responses.

My thoughts exactly.
I don't know about everyone else but I'm getting tired of, "Thanks for your feedback! We ARE listening!"
Cool, you're listening but you are not doing anything about it.

Wrong.

We did listen. At no time did we try to stop Fuss for making the cupcakes or delivering them (this would be unfair to Fuss and to the fans who sent the cupcakes and a generally dickish thing to do). When the cupcakes reached us, we did not refuse to take them (again, unfair to the people who sent them). I, along with Fernando, Mark and Alistair went down, met with Shadow Wrought, gave him some swag for being brave enough to show up and keep us honest and took them upstairs. We took all of the included messages out of the bags and boxes so we would not lose them (again, cuz we're listening). We did not throw them away, ignore them till they got stale or not use them as what they are, food. We chose not to eat them and gave them to a needy charity.

The message REACHED us. Whether we ate the cupcakes, threw them in teh garbage or donated them to charity is secondary to us getting the message, right? If we had (somehow) frozen time, put them in a display case for all time as a reminder of the message sent by fans, this would have been the same thing.

Us actually eating the cupcakes or not should not have been the issue. The issue was fans creatively sent us a message expressing their love for Mass Effect as a franchise, but dislike over the endings. This message was delivered to us and we got it loud and clear.

We couldn't have asked for more, methinks. Thank you.

That wouldn't have worked at all. It would have been a PR nightmare if you released hounds to tear apart the Fuss delivery guy and the reporters.

@Chris Priestly: Earlier statement to your second paragraph retracted then, thanks for clearing that up.

Out of curiousity would you eat a "Thank you for the announcement at Pax" cupcake or would that end up going to the kids that will likely still be bouncing off the Shelter's walls?

(nod) I hear you. I kind of expected BioWare to do something entertaining or clever. Perhaps with a little jab back, but something fun. Something fostering an emotional connection or emotional closure. This was, after all, an attempt at starting a more positive approach that you've been asking for. (Not the best, but a great start with a lot of promise.) This kind of shuts things down.

Perhaps worse, this ending seals it with a dreaded  'donated to children, how could you object you horrible person' landmine to anyone who objects to your handling of this. But what's odd is that you've replicated the very thing the retakers were criticized for doing with Child's Play. It gives the appearance of using a charity to strengthen your own appearance. Oh boy, what a mess. :(

Anyhow, if you decide to shore up ME3's ending, please don't double down. Try to give it a good emotional closure. Best wishes, entertainment dude!

As I said before, at least needy kids got the cupcakes if you guys weren't going to eat them. No sense in letting good food go to waste. Especially cupcakes, that's just a crying shame when cupcakes go to waste.

But since you're around, perhaps you can answer this for me. Why all the silence?. I mean really. Is it really a PR thing?. Are Bioware's hands really tied?.

I'm used to people being direct with me, especially when I have an issue with them. Not talking to me is a quick way to make a problem worse, because it leads to assumptions.

And alot of what's gone down appears to be directly because of that. Oh sure, we have statements, but, those statements are left to alot of speculation. And not openly correct speculation, which has lead to more arguing and hostility.

Hence why I ask.

You guys eating the cupcakes or who you gave them away to wasn't the issue. The issue is that you said this:

"However, while we do appreciate that fans were creative in how they expressed their views, after a lot of discussion, we decided ultimately the reason that they were sent was not done in the context of celebrating the work or accomplishment of the Mass Effect 3 team. "

Nothing wrong with him saying that, you did not send them with no agenda as the agenda is very much written alongside the very product they received and which they kept meaning the criticism/feedback. Morally because of such even if not intended to be so it comes across the wrong way as far as percieved bribe. If they had eaten it and not done exactly as you asked for then would of been huge amount of people angry that you bought them something and they did not give you exactly what you wanted in return (you know this is true for many people who would react in this very way even if you personally would not have). Giving to the children while keeping the feedback was the only thing that was ever going to happen and was the only right thing to do.

I think, despite what any individual from BW may feel about the cupcake thing... they had to discuss it, and when they've made that decision (doesnt matter who agreed or disagreed) they have to all come out of that with the same face and be unified on it. Its a business thing.
