Believe me guys they got the message. Wasnt like they were all cackling evilly and giving me and the reporter shifty eyes when they came down. Everything was nice overall. I seriously doubt theres any sort of hidden agenda in this move.

Free good publicity isn't their motive? Could've fooled me, everybody is eating out of Priestly's palms now.

Yeah... no. Priestly has said a lot of things and beheaved in a cool manner...

But other than that, nothing in the game has changed. That's why we're here.

I'm glad that the cupcakes are going to a good cause!  Retake ME3 is in the peculiar position that one child's charity asked us to stop giving to them, but by giving cupcakes to Bioware we managed to give to another group of children indirectly!  This can only be a win.  I admit, I would have liked it if some people at Bioware had gotten to enjoy the cupcakes, since this medium for our message was chosen intentionally to be sweet, but if there's a children's centre big enough to actually use all those cupcakes before they go off then that's honestly far more serious an issue than anything we've discussed in this thread until now.  Bioware did well to redirect our gift to them.

At first, when I read Chris saying " we decided ultimately the reason that they were sent was not done in the context of celebrating the work or accomplishment of the Mass Effect 3 team," I felt a bit hurt...  After all, as you can see from my message,* I concentrated as much as I could on the positive and praised and thanked Bioware.  Also, we wouldn't be upset about the ending if we didn't think that the game was good apart from the ending.  However, I choose to believe that the quote from Chris means that Bioware are soberly reflecting on what to do next rather than celebrating.  It must be hard for them to receive a lot of the feedback they're getting at the moment.  Furthermore, as has already been pointed out by quite a few people, the fact that they chose a fourth option over and above the three that were offered goes to show that they can see where we're coming from and why more choice is desirable.

This was a great success.  Well done, everyone.  Thanks to all the fellow contributors, those who supported with words, and everyone from Bioware who joined in the fun by posting in this thread.

:wizard:

* “Bioware, you are my favourite group of games developers.  I love all your work.  Thanks to all those who put so much hard work into Mass Effect 3, for giving us characters worthy of deep emotional investment, and many whimsical and touching moments.  After experiencing 99% brilliance, the ending(s) gutted me. But I still have faith, and immense love for you. I wish you the best.  We campaign because we care.  Enjoy the cupcakes!”

Gotcha, Bioware.

:police:

And here are the people I am talking about.

It does not matter what happens as long as they can twist it into some condescending meme.

Bioware is not a person and a company doesn't have feelings.

In that case, cupcakes were always a bad idea. Companies aren't people and don't need to eat!^_^

Amid all the craziness, I'd have liked a cupcake ;_;. A red one, for my chosen ending.

People are spinning this incorrectly to say we are not listening to "negative feedback" and how bad we are and etcetera.

Wrong.

We did listen. At no time did we try to stop Fuss for making the cupcakes or delivering them (this would be unfair to Fuss and to the fans who sent the cupcakes and a generally dickish thing to do). When the cupcakes reached us, we did not refuse to take them (again, unfair to the people who sent them). I, along with Fernando, Mark and Alistair went down, met with Shadow Wrought, gave him some swag for being brave enough to show up and keep us honest and took them upstairs. We took all of the included messages out of the bags and boxes so we would not lose them (again, cuz we're listening). We did not throw them away, ignore them till they got stale or not use them as what they are, food. We chose not to eat them and gave them to a needy charity.

The message REACHED us. Whether we ate the cupcakes, threw them in teh garbage or donated them to charity is secondary to us getting the message, right? If we had (somehow) frozen time, put them in a display case for all time as a reminder of the message sent by fans, this would have been the same thing.

Us actually eating the cupcakes or not should not have been the issue. The issue was fans creatively sent us a message expressing their love for Mass Effect as a franchise, but dislike over the endings. This message was delivered to us and we got it loud and clear.

You guys eating the cupcakes or who you gave them away to wasn't the issue. The issue is that you said this:

"However, while we do appreciate that fans were creative in how they expressed their views, after a lot of discussion, we decided ultimately the reason that they were sent was not done in the context of celebrating the work or accomplishment of the Mass Effect 3 team. "

Nothing wrong with him saying that, you did not send them with no agenda as the agenda is very much written alongside the very product they received and which they kept meaning the criticism/feedback. Morally because of such even if not intended to be so it comes across the wrong way as far as percieved bribe. If they had eaten it and not done exactly as you asked for then would of been huge amount of people angry that you bought them something and they did not give you exactly what you wanted in return (you know this is true for many people who would react in this very way even if you personally would not have). Giving to the children while keeping the feedback was the only thing that was ever going to happen and was the only right thing to do.

You can't seriously believe that anybody would get angry if they ate the cupcakes and didn't do what we want?
That is... so ridiculous.

The thing is, if Bioware doesn't provide the real multiple endings ME3 was suppossed to have, the people will continue to be angry, until they are sick of it and either leave ME and BW's games for good or grudgingly reconcil, but whether they ate the cupcakesand still kept the ending or not doesn't even make one iota of a difference.

Anyway, thanks again to Chris Priestly.

I have to run off to work now.

Emotions are running really high for all of us and I imagine they will be until we hear more from Bioware in April.

Hopefully it's good, my birthday is in April. maybe the krogan will bake me a cake.

Well, they weren't eaten by Bioware. They were sent to needy children. That probably was the plan after the ChildsPlay donation was stopped :D

This one made my day!

And a big no to the billboard idea (though my first instinct was exactly the opposite ;)). Harassing wouldn't help at all. We are requesting for a solution, not seeking vengeance. Let BW deliver the solution in peace (at least until April, ha, ha, ha).

Thanks for the update, LoganKey.  I was wondering about the messages that were sent (and thanks for filtering out the idiot ones that I'm sure a few people sent).

Great job, RetakeME3 and Bioware.

@Fingertrip:
So.... Fingertrip? any chance of explaining how sending cupcakes or not has to do with philosophy?

Is it existentialism? Does it have to do with the moral imperative? Please enlighten me oh exalted master?

You can pm me if you don't want to lose any more face in this thread I'm off to other fields for today, but I'm still very interested.

While I loved a lot of the notes sent in I think this one probably summed up how some of the fan reaction to the endings shows how disappointment in the game is raised exponentially due to our love of the game(s) as a whole:
“The stronger the love, the stronger the heartbreak.” -BSN: Trisskit
Short and sweet.
Kinda like cupcakes!

Relax. Priestly's attitude in this thread certainly does not deserve that.
You should at least give them the benefit of doubt until April.

And there's nothing wrong with doing your job.

Blunt and honest.  Why aren't all posts by BW staff like this?

In all honesty it is because we are a business. What we say and do when we interact with the public matters and will be remembered. As such we make sure that our replies for things are worded carefully and correctly. That is why many times you will see a "PR" style message out of me or other staff.

Still.... every once in a while... I go rogue. PR hates me.
