Please don't pass that on to the bosses. Truely many fans are pleased to know you are listening and are waiting patiently. Some people just won't be pleased, no matter what is said or done. But the fans that you want, the ones that keep positive... they deserve whatever you can give them.

Kindly stop talking. If you're happy with being dismissed and having your feelings dismissed that's up to you.

But most of us are not like that. We want some kind of response that actually has substantive concept. Not just a vague hinting that they might do something but we can't be sure what.

Uhg, the amount of time I have spent refraining from telling people to "kindly stop talking" because ahhh the joys of free speech.Image IPB

You haven't been dismissed, your feelings haven't either. If thats how you feel then that's a shame. Bioware has stated many, many times that they are listening and considering their options. They have done more for reassuring everyone that fans mean something to them then any other buisness I have ever seen. I don't want them to not pass along your post because I don't think your opinion matters, I hope they won't because the way you put things make you sound arrogant, entitled and childish. How some of you manage to get your dissatisfaction across while remaining mature and well mannered and some come across as someone demanding Bioware genie them up an ending they feel they have somehow earned is beyond me. Many share your view, many state it in more decent ways. I would, if I wanted Biowares attention and good will, leave the talking to them.

One can certainly take a cynical and jaded view of what happened, but, in the end, it seems that this was the best possible resolution.

You guys made sure your message was heard, and disadvantaged children were given a rare opportunity for a treat. I'm always happy to see people choosing to channel their disappointment into creative and positive endeavours, rather than insults and vitriol. It does your group credit.

See, you explained part of my disappointment with BioWare here. We signaled the pitch. We let them know exactly what was coming. They should have handled this in a fun-loving way which really tells us that the message was received, but they can be clever, too. Except, they didn't.

They went with a charity defence which usually provides asbestos shielding against criticism. Some irony, however, since they used a charity somewhat in the same way that the Retakers were accused of doing with Child's Play. It wasn't about the charity for BioWare as much as providing an air-tight explanation of their actions. (Nevermind the given math of 402 cupcakes and... was it only 27 children?) So it was a pretty cold handling of the situation. It wasn't so much about engaging fans or supporting a charity.

No office contest with repurposed cupcakes? No tounge-in-cheek counter-gift for the members of the cupcake club? No fun media event with everyone having a good laugh all the way around? You missed the best possible resolution. Wildly. I shot out a one-liner earlier. I asked, "What Would Valve Do?" You better believe that they would have played it socially smart and not just logic/defense smart. The cold corporate answer wasn't the right tact here.

Some parallels, again, to the ending of ME3. You technically delivered an ending. But you totally missed the mark on the emotional connection and concluding it properly. I kinda hoped that the end of ME3 was a bit of sly genius. The handling of some cupcakes with a friendly bite seems to have fleshed out a bit of what is going on under the scene.

Connect with our heads and our hearts. And entertain us!

As a "disadvantaged" youth (I spent time in a group home) I remember fondly the times when we got a free night: Basically a friend of the system loaned us his house (pool table and all) for the evening.

It was always well stocked with doughnuts.

Still, 25 years later, I remember those evenngs and those doughnuts. You did the right thing.

It seems to me, and correct me if I'm wrong, this LoganKey fellow only did this, or came up with this for the 'publicity' he seems to be getting from the interviews.

Don't get me wrong, the cupcakes going to the kids is amazing. But the message behind them seems a bit...skewed. Like partially it's a middle finger to Bioware in a creative manner, and partially "hey! I'm going to get internet famous out of this!" from the creator of this..I don't know what to call the cupcake thing.

Like there are two different reasons going on here.

I'm not trying to be jaded or anything, it was just an observation from what I've seen thus far.

That's not the vibe I got at all. The Retake Facebook page, whoever's in charge of that, there's been similar accusations. He's trying to turn it into some other sort of charity thing, or something. Turning some of us off to it, which isn't going to help getting a big group population number (at the end of the day, probably the best tool we could have.)

But I never got the impression Logan was doing that, not once.

I see what you're saying. And I understand why Bioware "passed" on the cupcakes. No question it was a mixed message coming at them. But the message was received loud and clear. I think that's what's important. I don't expressly want to hurt the feelings of the developers but, this message was necessary. But no matter what: glad the underprivileged kids can benefit. (Those cupcakes looked delicious) Dammit. Now i'm hungry. For cupcakes. Obviously.

Edit: Why can I not spell cupcakes correctly? Seriously.

I'm not questioning that. I'm questioning Logankey's motives. He keeps posting about the interviews he's done and stuff like that. Like THAT was what was important to them, not the message to Bioware. Or maybe it's just me, I dunno. I just thought I'd point out how it looks.

I understand the message that was sent to BioWare and why they did what they did. (All in all, I'm beyond happy that kids who dont get much got the cupcakes. I actually took a cake I baked to my friend today who works at an after-school program for the kids). And yes, they did look delicious lol

I really don't think that it's fair to suggest that Logankey did this for the publicity. He had an idea, and he followed through with it. Let's try and avoid ascribing nefarious intentions where I imagine none exist.

I haven't gotten this impression either. Logan seems to actually care how all this goes down and he is doing a good job in keeping everyone updated and encouraged. Plus I think the hopes of anyone getting internet or anything beyond BSN famous is a little far fetched.Image IPB Lol.

OK so it was a suboptimal response. To be fair I'm sure they'd loved to do something equally fun and creative but lets face it, it's always going to be PR calling the shots in any dialogue on this issue there's just too much media attention for it to be any other way.

That may be 'spoilsport' but it's how it is. There's no benefit or use in getting wound up about it. Just be glad they took it in the spirit it was intended, even if PR shot them down from having fun with it too.

I'm not being mean :( I'm just wondering, because that's the vibe I got.

It's not like I'm going "ZOMG HES AN ATTENTION WHEWWWEERRR!" or anything like that.

I can have a normal conversation, you know.

Hey John, I just noticed you're a cinematic designer. Do you mind if I ask you what program you use? I'm a maya animator, but I'm the only one of my friends that doesn't work in games. Did you work on the rendered scenes, or the in game scenes?

Dunno why people were upset you donated them to charity. Not like you have to eat them to get whatever message was intended to come along with em. You guys are great for doing it, thanks for making the world a better case.

I think Full Paragon are doing the KNTR thing and to avoid a repeat of the issues with Childs Play, they've taken a neutral postion as far as Retake go.

Cinematic Design uses all in-game assets - conversations, and some of the cutscenes (depending on resources). I know that our Cinematic Animators (they handle the really heavily authored scenes, usually those that require the most custom animation) use 3DSMAX.

I can't believe people are upset at BioWare for giving those ridiculous cupcakes to a youth shelter. Are you people even listening to yourselves? I am totally disgusted.

I think most applaud the giving of cake to children. What is troubling is the implication that no feedback will be passed along that doesn't "celebrate the achievement" of the development team. Criticism will be deflected.

THIS. Criticism is what Muzyka refers to as Destructive Feedback.

Because the cupcakes were technically destructive.  There wasn't anything meaningful meant by them except as a backhanded way of saying "You dun goofed, BW, here's a treat."  I'm really surprised folks don't get this.

And technically, donating the cupcakes wasn't "taking a 4th option" either.  They just refused the cupcakes.  Donating them was a variation on the option of refusing them. ;)

Here's a link to the Retake page on Facebook - you're right, it's very hard to find - but it sorta went from militant to gentle to weird. Last I checked, they were talking about what to do in the wake of the Child's Play thing. But now they want to make some new movement that's about tween and teen gamers not being seen as "nerds" for playing games? W-what? Lemmie tell ya...I'm 33 and got made fun of relentlessly for my SNES and Genesis growing up, because gaming made you a social pariah. Now that jocks and cheerleaders play games, I really don't see what they're complaining about. Everything's relative, I suppose. Anyway, the group's *supposed* to be about ME3. I'm pretty close to leaving it.

Edit: That link I mentioned might actually help, huh? http://www.facebook....ngToMassEffect3
