@John Oh I've been doing just maya...well, that and after effects. But for things I used to do character animation on, a lot of it's motion capture now. Sometimes I feel like I got a dead degree. Oh well...as long as I have time to *play* games I'm a happy camper lol.

Nope, they were all acquired by Autodesk some time ago.

Yowza, you're right. A long time ago. Clearly I've either drunk not enough coffee or too much booze.

Hey John, I just noticed you're a cinematic designer. Do you mind if I ask you what program you use? I'm a maya animator, but I'm the only one of my friends that doesn't work in games. Did you work on the rendered scenes, or the in game scenes?

Cinematic Design uses all in-game assets - conversations, and some of the cutscenes (depending on resources). I know that our Cinematic Animators (they handle the really heavily authored scenes, usually those that require the most custom animation) use 3DSMAX.

Yeah Max seems to be the gaming choice. I should probably learn it myself, just for versatility. Thanks for answering, I really appreciate it.

I'd suggest learning Maya as well, at least to some degree. It's also fairly popular.

*Maya user.

Although the skills are transferable between programs. It's just about learning how to accomplish the same thing with a different tool (i.e. 'where is the equivalent button at?!')

It's funny though, I started with Max and these days I barely touch it.

-edit- lol yeah Autodesk owns almost everything now.

-edit2- Ooh but some of the stuff they were showing off at their GDC booth this month.. I always like to take some time out of my floor crawling to sit on the bench and watch a demo. Exciting stuff. (When I saw them show off the ear projection with overlap from projecting a '2D' stencil texture in Mudbox on the showroom floor for the first time 2 years ago I almost had a stroke, lol.)

Don't tempt me with Irish poetry. If you'd mentioned Scottish poetry (just a lot of gutteral yelling and smells, really) and/or shoes I would have married you. So, so close.

My fiancee may have taken issue with that.

As to the question regarding a history degree - as I mentioned, I have an English degree. Honestly, outside of the highly specialized fields (such as programming), it's less to do with your education as the skills you're able to demonstrate. A degree only does so much.

I'm Scottish. I could take her. Someone, please make a "Megan for ME4" banner. I can be headbutting a Krogan.

Actually the best thing college gave me was connections, odd as that sounds. Maybe that's just Hollywood talking. But teachers from school got me my first job, they got me my second, ect. Many of the skills they didn't mind teaching you for each place, so you do pick up a lot of skills. As the old saying goes, very few people end up working in a field with their degree.

EDIT: Sorry Bob I missed that. You're a user too, what do you do?

Unless it's a research career you're looking at, then a degree speaks a lot louder than your work. Trust me, been there done that.

Never again.

Also Frazier clan represent.

FRAZIER clan! I'm actually not Hunter clan, I'm Frazier. My branch comes from the McCamys, which apparently used to sound like "McShimmy." Guess what my nickname was in college. I'm really a mutt, just more Scottish than anything else. I tracked down the head of the clan once, and he said the Scot blood was pulling a Braveheart on the rest of my DNA.

I was at Mattel for about a decade; I was lead animator until they outsourced it all, switched me over to toy design. The things that moved, which makes a certain kind of sense, so you really never know where your career path will take you.

I'm getting ready for bed but friend me, are you making mods for DA? I wanted to get into that, though I'm probably too busy now. Bad at modeling but I can animate characters and particle systems.

we gave them 3 options and they dident have the balls or toe curage to do what the fans did, instead of choosing what their favourite colour is they took the 4th option, THink this is symbolism for the new ending they will make?

Do what the fans did? You are aware of what the fans did right? I don't see how eating 90% of the cupcake and then leaving the rest of it on a shelf and refusing to eat it until you send them new better cupcakes would be better then donating them to a shelter. Plus, I really don't think I could handle watching them protest Fuss Cupcakes and sending them massive amounts of letters about much they disliked the last 10% of the cupcake and how it ruined all cupcake franchises for them. Good morning everyone.

Hmm. Want to start learning 3DS Max and Maya now, after reading those last posts.

It's probably best I don't though, I've never been good at drawing and all I've used before was Autodesks Inventor, when I studied mechanical engineering. Not that artistic.

Yeah... I 'met' a couple of the dragon age team guys while waiting for Fuss. They came down and wondered where the protesters were. And i said how i was the only one  And cupcakes. they wanted cupcakes also. ON another note i asked about DA 3 and i was told its gonna be bigger than the last one.

*By met i mean i exchanged a couple sentences and they went on thier merry way.

Goddess... no matter what you do it will be wrong<_< If they would eat cupcakes people would argue (they don't get the message blablabla somethingelse blablablabla) they donated them th carity and.... yes. Wrong. Goddess, people O_O just relax.

Anyway, cupcake campaign was a great idea and it's good they donated cupcakes to shelter. They still have notes ;)
I would just leave one box for myself, personally. But, oh well, people with some serious restraint are working there :)

Hi Everyone

Today, we received the 400 cupcakes you collectively sent us through your donations to express your feelings about the endings of Mass Effect 3. We want you to know; we are indeed listening to all fan response and acknowledge your feedback. We appreciate creative and thoughtful attempts like this one.

The gesture certainly gained our attention both with its creativity and deliciousness. However, while we do appreciate that fans were creative in how they expressed their views, after a lot of discussion, we decided ultimately the reason that they were sent was not done in the context of celebrating the work or accomplishment of the Mass Effect 3 team. This is a subtle, but important aspect in determining how to pass the feedback to the team.

BioWare regularly works with many deserving charities,  as such it was decided that rather than passing  out the cupcakes to staff or wasting good food, to donate them on behalf of our fans to a local Edmonton youth shelter. We know that for the kids that have to use this facility, something as simple as a cupcake is a rare treat and would definitely brighten up their day.  Thank you to the fine folks at the local youth shelter for accepting the donation and to the fans who donated the cupcakes.

Please keep providing your feedback on Mass Effect 3, we’re still listening.

But if you did that though then you'll spoil the ending for the kids before they have a chance to play it when they're older!  :(

Slightly disappointed the Bioware staff didn't get to actually eat the cakes themselves, but happy overall with all this. Message delivered, cakes delivered, charity wins again.

Big pats on the back for those involved, good stuff! +50 Paragon.
